The Boy
Asaki stood around the middle of the square with Mari and Hosato staring wondrously at the boy with the shamisen. He spoke again,
"Pay careful attention to everything you see and hear...no matter how unusual it may seem"
Everything seemed to grow more mysterious after the boy said these words,
"But please be warned...if you fidget...if you look away...if you ignore any part of what I tell you..even for an instant...then our hero...will surely perish
Asaki became nervous, but excited at the time! How was this possible? She didn't know...
The boy began to strum the shamisen, but something magical was also happening. The papers were moving on their own, and folding themselves into little origami figurines!
Asaki stared at the figurines in amazement. One in particular looked like a samurai.
The boy then told the story of a brave samurai named Hanzo, who travelled in search of a magical suit of armor:
He was gesturing towards the audience as if he wanted them to answer.
"First-" the boy said
Suddenly, Hashi, one of her neighbors who seemed to adore the boy's stories pushed through the crowd.
"Oh! I know! I know!" He said, "the Sword Unbreakable."
She assumed that the answer was correct, because the boy's paper had formed small gold sword as he strummed his shamisen once more.
Suddenly without warning, the boy came straight towards Mari! She didn't wish to look like a fool in front of this boy so she partially hid from him but she was still able to see him
"Second!" He said
Mari knew the answer. However one of the words caused her to stutter adorably.
"The breastplate! Inpenepet...."she said
Hosato then stepped in and whispered the word: "Impenetrable"
Just then, Mari's face lit up with happiness as she said, "impenetrabubble!"
The crowd giggled at her mispronunciation. Even the boy let out a smile as he whispered "Yeah!" to her.
The boy then was requesting what the last piece of this mystical armor was when out of knowhere and without hesitation, Kameyo tugged on a man's arm right beside her and shouted "I know this one! Pick me!"
Then, with an immense amount of confidence she said "the Helmet Invulnerable!"
Then as he did the others, the boy made a small golden helmet out of his paper with the melody of his shamisen.
The story continued for hours but Asaki didn't seem to mind at all! She was both entertained and bewildered at his story. It just seemed so...real. like as if it actually happened to him. He told them about the many mystical beasts that the samurai fought on his journey. From a giant spider, too a sharp toothed shark, to a fire-breathing chicken (which Kameyo seem to enjoy a lot).
At last, it was dusk, the sun was setting over the horizon and it seemed that the boys story was about to come to an end. Hanzo just came face-to-face with this nemesis, the Moon King. The boy began to strum his shamisen intensely. The crowd became urged in suspense. The two paper figurines lunged and lept at each other....
But suddenly, the evening bell chimed and the boy stopped. He was packing up and leaving. The crowd was disappointed and so was Asaki. That was one of the most captivating stories she'd ever heard and she couldn't bear to not hear the ending. He was in the same boat as Hashi when he said that people liked an ending.
The boy left the village and disappeared over the horizon.
Asaki became curious about this boy. Many parts about him were strange. He left before the ending of a story, at sunset, his hair covers an eye patch and he had seemed to come to the village alone.
She then decided that tomorrow she would talk to the boy. If it wasn't that much trouble for him that is. With this in mind she headed back home with Kameyo, Hosato and Mari.
That night, Asaki had a dream, a very strange dream that didn't seem like a dream but seemed more like... a vision
There she was outside the village, it was nighttime. This was strange to her because she never usually went out at night. She was beside...the boy... She didn't understand why, she hadn't even met him yet. They were both... running...
There was smoke and two shadowy figures after them. Asaki couldn't tell what or who they were. Once they crossed the bridge outside of the village the boy tripped and Asaki went to help him.
All of a sudden, a woman in a large golden yellow and orange kimono took the boys shamisen from the ground and strummed it. Then... it went bright....
Asaki was awake now. The sun had risen.
She tried to piece her dream together again, she tried to recollect herself, but she was confused. Why was that boy with her? Who and why were those two shadowy figures chasing them? Who is that mysterious woman?
Asaki put on her kimono, awaiting for fate to take the day.
