Nico's POV

Why couldn't Hazel? I thought as I lead Emma down to the woods. The other cabins had taken all day and now it was my turn to lead a useless challenge.

"It's kinda late" Emma said as we walked into the forest. I did my best to get as far from her as possible, putting a great deal of space between us. after a few minutes I shadow traveled (What you going to do about it Will?) to a cliff and began to run along its ridge. trying not to think about the fact that I just left a new camper in a stocked forest.

I tried not to do a face plant as every root reached to trip me and every twig swung to smack my face. One of them succeeded. and I flew to the edge. 

I was going to fall over! 

Just before I went over the edge something grabbed me by the back of my shirt. The hand was dead cold and sent shivers down my spine. It yanked me back up and quickly withdrew. 

As I rubbed warmth back into my arms I looked up in shock and saw Emma standing there, wringing her hands. Was that her? where did she come from? the only way that she could have caught up is if she, well, shadow traveled... No that couldn't be it.

"Well" She said, awkwardly, "Is this the place you wanted to go?"

I nodded and she looked around, "Very...sheer"

I snorted and got to my feet, looked around, and pointed down the edge of the cliff. "look down there"

She peered down and stiffened, "What should I be looking at?" She asked.

She saw it, and she didn't like it.

"The Hellhound"

She gulped, "The dead one?"

What was she talking about. there was only one and it was obviously dead. as a son of Hades I would know what I was talking about.

...

right?

"Uh..." I said, starting to lean over the edge.

"NO" she said quickly, looking like she had done something very wrong. something life or death wrong. She reached out to stop me then thought better of it and yanked her hand away "Your right. there is only one. Don't lean over the edge"

I stared at her, "are...you okay?"

She took a deep breath, "Yah"

I opened my mouth to say something when she turned and started to walk back to camp.

"Where are you going?" I asked, hurrying to catch up.

"I don't like this place" She said, rubbing her arms.

I reached out to stop her, grabbing her by the arm.

A spike of cold shot up my arm and stopped me cold. Emma whipped around, horrified.

"Are you okay?" She asked, looking scared.

I couldn't reply, she backed up a couple steps.

"I'm sorry, i am so SO sorry." She tripped over a root and nearly splayed onto the ground. "I'll go get someone!"

She ran off.

I was in shock, the cold was so deep, I couldn't move. I thought I was going to have to wait until an Apollo kid showed up when I suddenly fell to the ground. I could move again. I was still chilled but I could move.

I shadow traveled to the edge of camp just as Emma burst from the forest. When she saw me she stopped dead.

"Nico?" She asked, looking over her shoulder. "But I thought..."

She took a couple steps back, "are you alright?"

"well, yeah..."

"Oh thank goodness" She said.

I moved to step forward to see her better as she seemed to be wrapped in shadow when she rushed past me. "Glad to see your alright, its late I'm going to bed. G'night"

I stood there for a second then walked back to the Apollo cabin to cast my bet as Emma being my half sister.

When I walked in Will ran to greet me.

"How did it go?" He asked, I sat down on the bed. Even though the cabin was warm I still felt a chill.

"Hey," Will put his hand on mine, "Are you alright- whats wrong?"

He jumped up "Your freezing cold! Did you shadow travel? What happened"

I shook my head "You wouldn't believe it"

As I explained what had happened more Apollo kids gathered around.

"I think this girl is more complex that we thought" Will said thoughtfully

Hades is done! WHOOOP!
