Frodo of the Shire

Thoughts: Underlined
**************
3rd POV:

Come, there is somewhere we need to be," Gandalf said before getting on a horse-drawn cart.

"Wait, Mr. Abanathy, what's going on?" Ellia asked in shock.

Gandalf grabbed Ellia by her garments and pulled her into the cart. He then gave her a cloak and her weapons.

He snapped the reins and the horse began moving. "We must make it to the village of The Shire. If I think what I think today is, it is Bilbo Baggins's birthday."

"Wait. Rewind. What happened?" Ellia asked as she put on the cloak and put on the hood.

"When you said the words in the book, it teleported us here. There are things I have not told you, child, but I will tell you everything as soon as we get to the Shire." Gandalf said before turning to looks at Ellia. " I do not want you to speak a word as soon as we get there. I will introduce you as my apprentice and you must say nothing about being from another world. It will only lead to more trouble that we do not want at the moment. And do not call me by the way you know me, it is either Mithrandir or Gandalf in public."

" But I can call you pops in private, right?" Ellia asked.

"Yes, you may my dear."

****Time skip brought to you by Sam saying PO- TAY- TOES!****

Now in the Shire, Gandalf was singing a tune that Ellia heard him sing when she was younger. All the sudden, a three-foot six-man jumped into sight.

"You're late, " the man said.

Gandalf turned to the man. "A wizard is never late, Frodo Baggins. Not is he early; he arrives precisely when he means to."

They stared at each other for a moment before they began laughing.

"Its wonderful to see you, Gandalf!" Frodo said before looking at Ellia. "Who is this?"

"This is my apprentice, Annabeth. She is new to these parts." Gandalf said before taking off again with Frodo at his right and Ellia at his left.

"It is wonderful to meet you, lady Annabeth," Frodo said.

"Likewise, " she said before turning away shyly.

"She does not talk much, Frodo, so do not mind her manners,"  Gandalf said.

"Alright, Gandalf. I'm happy you made it!" Frodo said excitedly.

"You didn't think I'd miss your Uncle Bilbo's birthday?" said Gandalf as he was riding to Bilbo's hobbit hole.

"What news of the outside world? Tell me everything!" said Frodo excitedly.

Gandalf looked at Frodo. "What, everything? Far too eager and curious for a Hobbit, Most unnatural. Well, what can I tell you? Life in the wide world goes on much as if it has past age. Full of its own comings and goings, scarcely even aware of the existence of Hobbits, for which I am very thankful."

Gandalf looks around the Shire and sees other hobbits putting up decorations and a banner that said 'Happy Birthday, Bilbo Baggins'

"Ah, the long-expected party. So, how is the old rascal? I hear it's going to be a Party of Special Magnificence," Gandalf said.

Frodo smiles before looking at Gandalf. "You know Bilbo; he's got the whole place in an uproar."

Gandalf chuckled. "Oh, well... that should please him."

Half the Shire's been invited. He's up to something," Frodo said.

Gandalf averted Frodo's eyes when he looked at him.

"Alright then, keep your secrets. Before you came along we Bagginses were very well thought of. Never had any adventures or did anything unexpected," Frodo said smirking.

Gandalf sighed. "If you're referring to the incident with the Dragon...I was barely involved. All I did was give your Uncle a little nudge out the door."

Frodo looked at Gandalf. "Whatever you did...you've been officially labeled as a Disturber of the Peace."

Ellia snorted. Gandalf looked at her with a face of disbelief.

Children flocked behind the cart and cried for fireworks. Gandalf ignored their calls. Ellia used her power of telepathy to set off a batch of fireworks and the children cheered with joy. Gandalf glared at Ellia and Ellia laughed along with Frodo.

"Gandalf, I'm glad you're back. It's nice to meet you Annabeth!" Frodo said before jumping off the cart and walking away.

"So am I, dear boy, so am I, " Gandalf muttered.

Gandalf stops the cart and gets out and walks to the door of a home. Ellia was about to follow him but then stopped when she read a sign that said 'NO ADMITTANCE EXCEPT ON PARTY BUSINESS'. Ellia then looked concerned.

"Um, pops? I don't think-" Ellia started but was interrupted by Gandalf knocking on the door with his staff.

"No, thank you! We don't want any more visitors, well wishes, or distant relations!" a man yelled behind the door.

"And what about very old friends?" asked Gandalf.

The door opened and another man the height of Frodo stood at the door.

"Gandalf?" asked the man.

"Bilbo Baggins!" Gandalf said excitedly.

"My dear Gandalf!" Bilbo said as he and Gandalf hugged.

Bilbo looked behind Gandalf and saw Ellia behind the gate. "Who is that, Gandalf?"

He turned and look behind him. "Oh! I'd like to introduce you to my apprentice, Annabeth."

Ellia curtsies. "Nice to meet you, Mister Bilbo."

Bilbo walks over to her and kisses her knuckles before opening the gate and bringing her and Gandalf inside his home. "The pleasure is mine, my dear. Come in, both of you! Welcome, welcome! Would you like tea? Or maybe something stronger? I have a few bottles of the Old Winyard left! 1296, a very good year, almost as old as I am. It was laid down by my father. What say we open one, eh?" Bilbo said as he put Gandalf's hat and staff away and walked into the kitchen.

"Well he's chipper," Ellia said as she looked at Bilbo walk into the kitchen.

Gandalf walked into the chandelier. He grabbed it and set it in place before turning his head and and bonking it on a wooden beam. Ellia chuckled and ducked to the room Gandalf walked into. Ellia then picked up a framed map with interest while Gandalf was looked at her.

"I was expecting you sometime last week. Not that it matters, you come and go as you please, always have done, always will. You've caught me a bit unprepared I'm afraid. I don't have much food here. I can make son eggs if you'd like, Gandalf?" Bilbo asked Gandalf as he came into the room.

Ellia and Bilbo looked around the room when they couldn't find him. Gandalf then poked his head through under the kitchen frame.

"Just tea, thank you," Gandalf said.

"What about you, dear?" asked Bilbo.

"Umm..." her stomach growled. "Some eggs, please?" Ellia said shyly.

"Of course! And some tea?" asked Bilbo.

"Chamomile, please," said Ellia as she sat down in a chair in the kitchen.

Just as Bilbo came into the kitchen where the two taller people were, a pounding came from the front door.

"Bilbo Baggins! You open this door! I know you're in there!" a woman screeched.

"Bilbo planted himself by the door frame, pretending to camouflage. He then looked at Ellia and Gandalf.

"I'm not at home!" he whisper-yelled. Ellia silently giggled.

"I need to get away from all of it; the relatives, the hobbit hole, the Shire, everything! I want to see mountains again, mountains, Gandalf! And then find somewhere quiet where I can finish my book. Also, I would love to see Thorin and Fili, and Kili again! I miss those three dwarves! Oh! Tea," Bilbo said.

"So you mean to go with your plan then?" Gandalf asked.

Yes, yes. It's all in hand. All the arrangements are made," Bilbo said as he was pouring water into China-like mugs.

"Frodo suspects something," Gandalf muttered.

"'Course he does, he's a Baggins...not some blockheaded Bracegirdle from Hardbottle!" Bilbo said knowingly.

"You will tell him, won't you? He's very fond of you," asked Gandalf.

"Yes, yes, I know. He'd probably come with me if I asked him. I think, in his heart, Frodo's still in love with the Shire, the woods and the fields... little rivers," Bilbo muttered before looking at Gandalf with sad eyes. "I am old, Gandalf. I know I don't look it, but I'm beginning to feel it in my heart. I feel thin...sort of stretched, like butter scraped over too much bread. I need a holiday...a very long holiday and I don't expect I shall return...in fact, I mean not to, " Bilbo said before finishing cooking and the trio are in silence.

A while later, Gandalf and Bilbo we're outside smoking and Ellia was watching the sunset next to them.

"Old Toby, the finest weed in Southfarthing!"

Bilbo blows a perfect smoke ring and watches it rise into the air. Gandalf makes a tiny sailing ship with masts and sails and makes it glide through the center of Bilbo's smoke ring. Ellia lets out a light laugh.

"Ohhhh!" Bilbo said excitedly before looking out at the Shire with a smile. "Gandalf my old friend, this will be a night to remember!" Bilbo said dreamily.

Ellia looked on before taking a sip of her tea.

It just might be a night to remember...
