Chapter Three
Eva Felicio
I was into a deep sleep when I heard noise from the outside. I frowned and struggled waking up. I was torn between wanting to sleep and wanting to find out what's happening out there.
"Have you heard? Series of deaths have been occurring in our town!" One of the nurses exclaimed to her friend who seemed to be focused on her stuff.
"Could you tone it down? We have patients here." Her friend answered her.
"What's the fuss? Aren't you even concerned?" The loud nurse scoffed.
"I am! It's just that you're causing us fear and anxiety when we should be taking care of our patients!" The nurse said in muffled voice, trying to hide her irritation.
I scooted closer to my door in an attempt to hear their murmurs but their voices died down.
My forehead, again, creased with concern and I did not notice that I have been biting my nails upon hearing the news. It was Nurse Paula who distracted my thoughts.
"Stop that, Eva." Nurse Paula warned. She opened the door to my room and checked on me. As usual, she placed on top of my palm the medicine I have to take. I stared at it dumbfounded. "What are you waiting for? Time for your medicine!"
I sighed, took it down and accepted the glass of water she handed to me. I returned the glass to her after gulping it and wiping my mouth using the back of my hand.
"How long will I be here?" I asked again. She shook her head and stood up, taking the tray with her after jotting down my progress.
I have been asking that question ever since I was sent here. I know in my right mind that nothing is wrong with me.
I have my trauma and I was religiously attending sessions with the psychologist here. So, I don't see any reason why they would lock me up here.
My sister. It was my sister who killed somebody.
Not me.
I have to get out of here.
I have a feeling that the killings are related to what happened about twenty years ago.
I need to get out.
ASAP.
3rd Person's POV
"My source tells me that they have seen someone not too far from the crime scene." SP01 Fields began and all the team members stared at the file that he threw on the table.
"Oh-kay." SPO2 Clements blurt out carefully. "Anyone can go there. Is there any significant finding you came to know?"
SP01 Fields shook his head. He tapped the file for emphasis and stared into SP02 Clements' hazel eyes as he says, "that someone was reported to be wearing a doctor's coat and has a towering height enough to cover the deed he planned to be doing to his victims."
Detective McGonagall raised an eyebrow at the information his subordinate gave. He fiddled with his ballpen and heaved a sigh before addressing SP01 Field's findings.
"Any cctv footage that will confirm that someone's presence at those time and dates?" It was Detective Torres who asked the question.
"That will be something to work on." SP01 Fields answered sheepishly.
"Alright. You and Trinidad will work on it." Detective McGonagall said in finality and he nodded. He turned to SP02 Clements and instructed, "SP02 Clements, could you work alone in finding out about the identities and background of the victims?"
"On it, Detective." SP02 Clements said with a salute which earned a smirk from the Detective In-Charge.
Detective Torres hinted something between the exchange of looks from the two and felt sad knowing that the girl he likes seemed to be interested in his bestfriend.
He tried to cover up his disappointment by being his enthusiastic self and cheered, "Alright! Finally! Some action!"
With that remark, he noticed how SP02 Clements giggled that made his heart spark with joy.
Maybe, he can continue admiring her from afar. At least, he can protect and watch over her as their investigation progresses.
"It's already late. Go home to those who aren't on duty tonight." Detective McGonagall said and their meeting adjourned.
As the team left the conference room one by one, Detective McGonagall stopped by his side and said, "don't worry. She's not my type. It's all work, dude."
