Chapter Nineteen

Dedicated to patiencejesus❤❤

And I will pray the Father, and he shall give you another Comforter, that he may abide with you for ever;
--John 14:16 (KJV)

"Good morning, Holy Spirit."

The first words out of Posi's mouth as she opened her eyes to her 5:00am alarm.

Good morning, Masterpiece.

Her mouth widened into a grin when she heard His voice. She reached for her quiet time tools-- her Bible, devotional and played her spirit-filled worship songs playlist.

It had been beautiful waking up each morning with her heart filled with joy and peace, after a good night of sleep void of nightmares or disturbance of any kind. Since this was what it felt like to be regenerated like she had heard in a message she had been listening to, she wasn't ready to let it go.

She woke up each morning craving to hear God's voice speaking to her. It was so refreshing and different to anything she had ever known. The atheists didn't know what they were missing.

Of course, they don't. They haven't met this God. If they have, they would be forever changed.

For someone who had questioned Toyin's mental health and the 'spirits' that had spoken to her, she sure was enjoying starting her day with the Holy Spirit. It was such a comfort to know that God wasn't just all around her, He had also taken up residence in her.

Whoo! Glory!

Smiling to herself, she covered her mouth as she giggled. She had also become one of those people that shouted for joy at every bit of God-given revelation her spirit received.

Masterpiece, let's continue before you get late for work.

Yes, sir! She opened her Bible to the passage of scripture highlighted in her devotional and did her quiet time.

Tayo sighed as he continued the work for the day. He had been signing documents since morning and he was beginning to feel the fatigue.

I should have lunch.

Smiling, he remembered what had transpired between himself and Posi the previous Sunday. They had gone from zero to a hundred. Or so he hoped. At least, he felt her guard go down a bit before they parted ways.

For one, he was glad he had finally found the courage to remove his wedding band. It had happened at some point during service that Sunday and he felt like he was finally at the point where he could say he was healed of the anguish and pain of Doubra's death. She would still be a part of his story and he'd never forget her. That was for sure.

And the way Posi had looked at him sure reminded him of her...

Tayo had no doubt that he was a full-grown man but the look Posi sent his direction made him feel like a five-year-old. She looked at his hand on her shoulder and looked back in his eyes with her left eyebrow arched so sharply that he thought it would be able to pierce through a stone. And then back at his hand still on her shoulder.

He had always known he was a smart guy and he definitely got the message. She sure wasn't one to be trifled with, but she still looked cute to him. Still, he kept that piece of information to himself. For now. He was wise after all.

"Posi, please. I really don't know what I have done wrong but would you tell me or forgive me. Anyone you choose is fine."

"Well, you placed your hand on my shoulder. I don't like being touched without permission," she said.

They both knew she was avoiding saying the real thing. Tayo looked at her again and sighed.

"Okay. I'm sorry about that. I just needed to get your attention somehow. And stop you from leaving."

He could see her very beautiful brown eyes ask him 'why?' so he continued.

"I know you somehow got mad at me at our first meeting after seeing something and the same happened today. And the only thing I can find common to both times is my ring."

He paused as if waiting for her to deny it. When she did nothing except shut her eyes, he continued.

"You see, erm, I was married."

That was probably the wrong thing to say because her eyes flew open and she flinched visibly. He had to take one step closer to her and he knew if he did this wrong she was going to hit him or worse, stomp off again. He had one shot at this.

"What I mean is. I'm no longer married. Wearing the ring became a habit. That's all."

Why he was explaining this to her, he didn't know. But with bated breath, he waited and watched as her face displayed emotions he found confusing. Anger, dislike, and then something close to understanding.

He heard her sigh before her sweet slightly deep voice said, "I am sorry to hear that. And I'm sorry for my previous behaviours. I thought you were one of those cheating jer--." She paused and looked at him, contrite.

"I'm sorry again. I can be overly sensitive."

Then, it dawned on him. She probably thought he was divorced. Well, he'd correct that notion later. What mattered now was that she was smiling at him now and looked more relaxed.

"I can understand. So, can I drop you home?"

If he hadn't known she could glare, he'd have thought she was just looking at him with no expression. But he knew she could. And she was.

He really was blowing it with this young lady. He gave himself a knock on the head mentally. She was probably offended by his question.

Then she smiled and said sweetly. "My friends are waiting for me in the parking lot. I'm sure they will soon come looking for me. It was lovely seeing you today."

She really was going to give him whiplash with the way she was meandering from one emotion and facial expression to the next in split seconds.

"Erm, okay. I'm going in that direction too. Can I walk you?"

With a nod in answer to his question, she turned in a perfect 90 degree turn and began the walk towards the lot. He had followed beside her and they continued to converse about work till they got to where her friends were. Posi grudgingly introduced them before they parted ways.

Tayo smiled again before he heard a clearing of throat. He looked up to find Kazeem staring at him quizzically.

He was sure his P.A thought he was losing his marbles or something close.

"Yes, Kazeem. What is it?" He asked smiling.

He saw him stare at him with a slight smirk on his face before he began, "Parkwood Architecture sent a proposal for the Azalea Building Project…"

"So, Miss Faleye." Funmi spoke from her seat beside her making the trio pause in their eating.

They had decided to get an early dinner together at Bites 'n' Chops since all three closed from work early.

"Yes, Miss Animashaun," Posi replied, playing along. She knew what her friend wanted to talk about but she definitely wasn't going to make it easy for her.

Gerald probably knew too, because he rolled his eyes and picked up his piece of chicken.

"Now, you're going to pretend like you don't know what I'm talking about, abi?"

"But what are you talking about or referring to?" Posi asked with her features arranged in a perfect poker face.

Funmi sighed and facepalmed before looking at her friend. "Since Sunday when we met Mr Handsome you have refused to give us any dish on him. So, as your very concerned friends," she said, while pointing at herself and Gerald, "we would like to have the full story on how you guys got so chummy."

Posi didn't like her emphasis on the "chummy" and she knew they had been waiting for the perfect moment to grill her about the said mister. And she couldn't even evade their questions as she had been doing since Sunday, plus Funmi's nonsensical eyebrow wriggling was beginning to get on her nerves.

Turning from Funmi to Gerald who had finally stopped wrestling with his piece of chicken and was staring at her like she was the Eiffel Tower, Posi sighed and adjusted her pair of glasses.

"Well, we met at the first meeting towards his photoshoot and it just felt comfortable talking to him. But I saw a wedding band on his finger and it reminded me of the past. So, I stomped off?" she said in a question-statement form to which Funmi raised her brows again.

"Okay, I stomped off. But I felt I was justified now. I thought he was still married and I didn't like the 'chummy' atmosphere. However, on Sunday, he saw me and he wasn't wearing the ring anymore. So I thought he was just trying to make a move on me after he discovered that his ring may have been what put me off the last time. But then he made it clear that he was divorced or "no longer married" in his words. And I apologized for my previous behaviour. C'est finis," Posi finished with a clap of her hands.

"Hmmmm," Gerald said, while rubbing his sideburns.

Funmi, however, wasn't done. "So, you seem to "like" him, yes?"

"Ah ah, mama! Take it easy. How did you even come to that conclusion?" Posi was flabbergasted by her friend's thinking.

"How and why won't I think like that? You didn't do anything to him when he held you by your shoulder na. The Posi we know would have slapped, karate-kicked or done something close to that in response. You just looked at him and that was all. We actually thought that was his end!"

With her mouth hanging open, Posi stared at Funmi before she turned to Gerald. "Guy, your fiancé watches too much Zeeworld series. Only in that universe would not hitting a guy be equivalent to liking the guy."

"Well, I agree she has her head up in the clouds and thinks she is Cupid's personal assistant and bodily representation on earth. No offense, love," he said in Funmi's direction. "But you didn't hit him. I was actually thinking of stepping in before I saw your very mild reaction. Like I thought someone had replaced my friend."

"That's it! My friends are crazy. Yeah. That must be it!"

Funmi just turned to Gerald like she hadn't spoken and continued. "Yep. It's settled. She definitely likes him."

"I agree," Gerald said with a smirk.

"Urrrghh! You guys are exasperating!"

The other two just laughed at her and before she knew it, Funmi was already selecting the colour code for her engagement and wedding ceremony to the said Mr Sijuade.

"So, make a choice out of royal blue and baby pink, teal green and black or chocolate brown and cream." Funmi had her imaginary pen and paper out and stared at her eagerly for a response.

With an eye roll and hiss that could compete with that of a snake's, Posi stood to pick her order of takeaway small chops amidst the two's laughter and teasing.

As the two watched their friend stomp off, they couldn't help but thank God for the gradual changes they were seeing in their beloved friend. It was so great to finally have Posi exude such light and lightness.

"God is really great o!" Gerald exclaimed.

"I know, right? Meanwhile, I have a wedding to plan. We mustn't be caught unready or unfresh."

"You ehn."
