If School Could Kill, We'd Be Dead

"Wake up Cassidy, three hours before school starts." I heard Lonnie say. I woke up and looked around the room. At the foot of my bed, there was s box with my name on it.

"I found that outside the dorm this morning." Lonnie said, then walked out.

I opened the box and found a note. It said Hey Cas, I made this for you after the break in. Come to our room after you get dressed and I'll do something to your hair. Evie.

I looked in the box and saw a black dress, light purple leggings, and a backpack that was dark and light purple. I found a note in the backpack. BTW, here's my phone number along with Mal, Jay, and Carlos's.

I out on the clothes, surprised that they fit, and grabbed the bag. I walked to Evie's room and knocked. Mal answered.

"Hey Cassidy. Come on in." I walked into the room and Evie sighed in relief.

"Oh thank goodness!" She said. "They fit! Now sit down here. Mal, you're my assistant." I sat down in the chair when Mal came behind me. After what felt like forever, Evie let me out of the chair and let me see my reflection. I saw what they did to my hair: they put in purple dye. It looked good.

"Wow, I like it." I said.

"Knew you would. Come on. We need breakfast." Evie said as Mal and I followed.

There was a breakfast buffet set out and Jay had food stacked to his chin.

"Hello ladies. Wow Cassidy, you look like a VK."

"Thanks. I'm getting food." I said, walking away. I grabbed a plate and loaded it up with bacon, eggs, and pancakes. I felt someone tap my shoulder. I turned and it was Jason.

"Woah! You look different." That was all he said.

"Good or bad?"

"Good. Purple looks good on you. Just got surprised, that's all."

"Okay," I said, then saw Fairy Godmother. "I have to go ask her something."

I walked up to Fairy Godmother. "Hi, it's Cassidy, Rapunzel's daughter. I was wondering if I could be your assistant for Remedial Goodness? It might help the VKs if they saw one of the students in your class."

"What a wonderful idea Cassidy! You can help in my class. And, what happened to your hair?"

"Someone broke into my room last night and dyed it. I don't mind though."

"Okay. Go eat your breakfast." I walked over to Mal's table and sat down, completely ignoring Lonnie's attempt to invite me over to her table. Unlike a few people, I was trying to give them a chance.

"Hey guys." I said.

"Why did you go over to FG?" Carlos asked.

"Because I convinced her to let me sit in during your Remedial Goodness class."

"Yes!" Evie said, practically yelling.

"Calm down Evie." Mal said, putting her hand on Evie's arm, which caused her to sit down.

"Hey Cassidy, did you not see me wave to you?" Said a voice behind me. It was Lonnie.

"I did," I said. "I just decided to ignore it."

"Why?"

"Because unlike anyone else at this school, I want to give them a chance." The bell rang. "Oops! Time to go to class! See ya, wouldn't want to be ya!" And just like that, I left to go to class.

"Nice going!" Mal said. "I'm so proud."

"Ha ha Mal. So funny." I said as I took my seat in History.

"Hello class, I'm Mr. Pickle, welcome to History." Said the teacher. Mal and I fought to keep our laughs in.

That class went by quickly. Once we got out of the room, Mal and I burst out laughing. Everyone looked at us, but we didn't care.

We went to our normal classes. My next class was with Jason.

"Cassidy!" He called. "Over here!" I walked over to him. He was talking to that brat Audrey.

"You remember Audrey, right?" He asked.

"Yes. She was rude to my new friends."

"You're friends with the VKs?" Audrey asked.

"Yes. Unlike some people in this school, I'm trying to be nice to them and I'm trying to give them a chance!" I said, stomping away. I took a seat at the other end of the room.

"I admire what you did there." Said a voice next to me. I turned and saw Ben.

"Thanks."

"Cassidy, right?"

"Yeah."

"Not many people would stand up to Audrey and flat out tell her that she was being rude. That was awesome!"

"You don't speak highly of your girlfriend." I noted.

"I'm only dating her because my dad is forcing to. If I could break up with her, I would want to date someone else. Which is why I came over here. Does your friend Mal talk about me?"

"No, why?" I said, then got it. "Oh! You have a crush on Mal! Now that makes sense."

"Why don't you tell the whole world!" Ben said sarcastically. "Can you keep it a secret?"

"Yes."

"Hello class, I'm Mr. Delay, your chemistry teacher. The person immediately next to you is your partner." Said the teacher. That means Ben is my partner. "We're going to do an activity where you get to know your partner. The papers are on the desk."

"Let's get started. So favorite color?" Ben asked.

"Purple. Your's?"

"Tie between blue and yellow."

"Favorite movie?"

"Divergent."

"Mine is Invisible Sister."

"What's that about?"

"Basically it's about this girl named Cleo who makes an invisibility potion. Her sister accidentally drinks it, and becomes invisible. Cleo and her friend George have to find a way to reverse the potion before midnight on Halloween."

"Sounds good. Favorite book?"

"Obviously The Lightning Theif."

"Seriously?"

"Yeah? Why?"

"That's my favorite to!"

"Cool! Favorite food. Doesn't have to be healthy."

"Chocolate."

"Pancakes."

"Favorite TV show?"

"BBT."

"Is that Big Bang Theory?"

"Yes."

"My favorite to."

"What do you want to do in the future?"

"After being King, no clue. You?"

"Either artist or author."

"Ah. Want to sit with me and my friends during lunch?" Ben asked out of the blue.

"I already made arrangements to sit with Mal, Evie, Jay, and Carlos. You can sit with us if you want."

"I may just take you up on that."

"And I may save you a seat."

"Class, you're dismissed." Said Mr. Delay as I got my stuff and walked out.

"Hey, want to come to tourney tryouts this afternoon?" Asked Ben on our way out.

"Sure."

Next was P. E. Yay! (please note the sarcasm)

"Okay girls, you'll be cheering, boy'll be playing tourney. Any questions?" Asked Coach Jenkins. I raised my hand.

"Yes....."

"Cassidy. Why can't girls play tourney?" I asked.

All the girl looked at me like I'm crazy.

"Well, no girl has ever asked before. Do you want to try?"

"Yes."

"Come on then." Coach Jenkins said as I followed him. He got me the padding and I put it on.

"You ever done this before?" He asked.

"No, but it's a good time to learn." I said.

"I'm only asking because you put on the pads correctly."

"I did?"

"Yeah. You must've know how to do it subconsciously."

"Guess I did." I said. He handed me a helmet and I walked out onto the field. The boys looked shocked. I walked up to Ben.

"You convinced him to let you play?" He asked.

"Yeah. It's a miracle."

"Let's play!" Coach Jenkins said.

"Stay close." Ben said. "I'll try to help you."

"Roger that." I said as I ran behind Ben. He got the ball and ran through the kill zone as the dragonier shot discs at him. He dodged them with ease.

Okay, looks easy enough.

I ran through the kill zone, did some flips I learned to do when I was a cheerleader at my other school. I ran in front of Ben.

"Over here!" I yelled.

Ben reluctantly threw me the ball. I timed it perfectly, doing a baseball swing to get it into the goal. Everyone on my team cheered.

"What do you call that?" Coach Jenkins said, clearly furious. Then he had the nerve to laugh. "I call that raw talent. Come find me after school. Alright! Class dismissed."

I changed in the locker room and hurried to math.

Math went by quickly. After math, I went by Mal's locker because we were going to go get lunch together. She put a logo on her locker that said Long Live Evil. It looked amazing with the outline of her mother.

"Nice Mal! Looks good!"

"Thanks. I just need to put one final touch on it. Can you help?"

"Sure. What do you need help with?"

"Tracing the words."

"Sounds easy enough. Paintbrush." Mal handed me a paintbrush with black paint on it. I quickly traced the words, not messing up.

"Good job. Let's get lunch." We walked away from the locker and went to the cafeteria. After we got the food, I saw that Ben was trying to sit at our table.

"What's he doing here?" Mal asked.

"I invited him. That okay?"

"Yeah, I was just curious." We walked over and heard Evie talking to Ben.

"I don't care if Cassidy invited you. You can't sit here without Mal's permission."

"Evie, chill. I said it was okay." Mal said, taking a seat, looking directly at her food.

I nodded to Ben, practically saying "Sit next to her you giant idiot!" He finally got the message and sat down.

We ate in silence, me feeling like a total stranger.

The rest of the day wasn't eventful. Just boring.

I met with Coach Jenkins after school.

"You wanted to see me?" I asked.

"Yes, here." Coach Jenkins said, throwing me a jersey that said Cassidy 18.

"You want me on the team?" I asked. "Why?"

"Because you're talented. I think you have a lot to offer. Fairy Godmother was happy that a girl actually played and crushed it. Besides, the team needs some feminine charm."

"You think I'll do good?"

"Yes." Just then, a boy that I've never seen before came running up.

"Coach, you CAN NOT let a girl join the team!" Said the boy.

"Technically Chad, I can do whatever I want because I'm the coach."

The boy, Chad, stomped away.

"Good luck at school. I think some people aren't happy with my choice. I'm glad you're on the team." I walked away, thinking about how I was going to survive the rest of the day.

Jay and Carlos were in Mal and Evie's room. I walked in so that we can plot about our next move.

"Cas, what's that, coming out of your bag?" Jay asked. I looked and saw my tourney jersey.

"Guess who made the tourney team?" I said nervously.

"I must say," Carlos noted. "you did a great job on the field. Looking forward to working with you."

"Same here." Jay added.

Now Jay and Carlos are being supportive about this. I thought to myself. Will everyone be this supportive?

Boy was I wrong.
