7. Steal The Bacon!
Peach and Daisy were lounging around in Peach's castle one morning, bored out of their mind. "Bake cookies?" Peach suggested.
"No way, we did that last time I came here," Daisy said. After a moment, she had an idea.
"Let's play Steal The Bacon!" Daisy squealed.
"What's that?" Peach asked.
"We need more people if we're gonna play. I can't really explain without demonstrating, so let's invite people over! We can play in the castle courtyard," Daisy said.
"Ok," Peach huffed, picking up her phone. "Who should we call?"
"I'll do all the calling," Daisy replied. "Just wait awhile."
*an hour later*
"Now that everyone's here," Daisy started. "I will explain the rules of the game we're about to play. Who knows how to play Steal The Bacon?"
"I do!" Yoshi said eagerly.
"Yoshi, you will help me demonstrate how to play to the others," Daisy informed. She drew a line across the very middle of the courtyard with chalk and dropped a bandana on the exact middle of the line. "Yoshi, go to the other side of the line," Daisy instructed. Yoshi did just that. "Each of you will be assigned a number from 1 to 6. The referee, Lakitu will call out a number and the people who have that number must run to the bandana. As soon as you get to the bandana, you have to grab it and run back to where you came from. The person who didn't get the bandana can still run after the person who did get it and tag them. Thus, the team of the person who tagged the other person gets a point. If someone isn't tagged, their team gets a point. And if someone crosses the line before the other person picks up the bandana, the team of the person who was tagged gets a point. It is possible for more than one number to be called. Also, I've drawn a chalk on both ends of the courtyard, and everyone has to stand behind it," Daisy explained and demonstrated everything with Yoshi. "I think that's about it. Any questions before we choose the teams?"
"How many points should a team have in order to win the game?" Waluigi questioned.
"10," Daisy answered. "Any other questions?" Everyone shook their heads. "Ok, Peach and I are the team captains. Peach, choose a team member first. We'll take turns in choosing," Daisy said.
"Mario," Peach said immediately.
"Luigi," Daisy grinned.
"Toad."
"Yoshi."
"Toadette."
"Birdo."
"Donkey Kong."
"Wario."
"Diddy Kong."
"Waluigi." The teams were then completely divided. "Now, I will assign your numbers," Daisy said. "Peach and I are 1, Mario and Luigi are 2, Toad and Yoshi are 3, Toadette and Birdo are 4, Donkey Kong and Wario are 5, and Diddy Kong and Waluigi are 6." Everyone separated and went to their team's side.
"Is everyone ready?" Lakitu asked. Everyone nodded and thus, the game had started. "1!" Lakitu called out. Daisy grabbed the bandana and ran back to her side, Peach a few steps behind her. As expected, Daisy won that round. "3!" Yoshi quickly got the bandana and had returned to his side by the time Toad was just at the center of the courtyard.
"Come on guys, they're two points ahead!" Mario said.
"6!" Diddy Kong grabbed the bandana and ran back with Waluigi hot on his heels. Luckily, Diddy Kong was able to earn his team's first point. "4!" Toadette and Birdo sprinted to the center of the courtyard and reached the bandana at the same time. Toadette, however, had developed a strategy. She waited for exactly one second, allowing Birdo to grab the bandana. Obviously, Birdo did just that. Then, Toadette tagged Birdo before she could run back to her side. Team Daisy cheered. Both teams were tied with 2 points.
"We have to win the next rounds," Daisy told her team.
"2!" Lakitu exclaimed. Luigi, who was faster than Mario, quickly grabbed the bandana and began to run back to his side. Mario dove to tag Luigi and his hand touched Luigi's back. Team Peach cheered. "5!" Donkey Kong had gotten the bandana and returned to his side by the time before Wario could even reach the center of the courtyard. The teams were tied again, but this time with 3 points.
*10 minutes later*
Team Daisy had 8 points and Team Peach had 9 points. "1, 3, and 5!" Lakitu said. Peach, Daisy, Toad, Yoshi, Wario, and Donkey Kong all rushed to the center of the courtyard and Wario snatched the bandana without thinking. Daisy tagged him before he could start running, giving her team a point. This caused both teams to be tied with 9 points and whichever team earned the next point would win the game. "2, 4, and 6!" Mario, Toadette, Birdo, Waluigi, and Diddy Kong ran to the bandana, all of them determined to win. Knowing what would happen if someone grabbed the bandana right away, everyone stopped at the center of the courtyard and stood still, but ready to tag anyone from the opposing team. This went on for around a good 30 seconds before Luigi sneaked up behind the group of people and got the bandana from behind them. Everyone was too surprised to react, giving Luigi enough time to run back to his team's side. It was only once Luigi had reached his team's side when Team Daisy began cheering. Team Peach looked dumbfounded. After a few minutes of congratulating the winning team and chatting about the game, everyone left Peach's castle. Before Daisy could leave, she asked Peach one question.
"Want to play again sometime soon?" she grinned.
"Absolutely not," Peach shook her head. "We're baking cookies next time."
