25. Babysitting Brothers

Mario and Luigi were looking forward to a stress-free day when Peach dropped by their house with…

“Babies?” Mario raised an eyebrow and glanced down at Baby Mario, Baby Luigi, and Baby Peach.

“They participated in a grand prix today and the time machine needs some minor repairs. So until the time machine is fixed and ready to transport these three to their correct time period, you two will be babysitting them since I have to attend a meeting,” Peach explained.

“And how long will the meeting take?” Luigi questioned.

“Maybe about three hours, give or take,” Peach answered. “I’ll pick up the babies here once the meeting is over.”

“No problem,” Mario said. “I’m sure our younger selves aren’t that hard to take care of.”

“They aren’t,” Peach assured. “They’re total sweethearts. And I must go now.” Peach waved goodbye to the Mario brothers and left their house.

“Luigi, how would we take care of three babies?” Mario asked.

“Well, feed them… And change their diapers,” Luigi replied.

“We don’t have diapers here, do we?” Mario said.

“No… Let’s call the princess and find out if we still need to get diapers for them,” Luigi suggested. Mario picked up his phone and called Peach.

“Hey, Peach,” Mario stated. “Did-“

“AHHHHH!!!” Baby Peach screamed, bursting into tears.

“What’s that?” Peach asked, startled.

“Your baby self is crying,” Mario stated, walking into another room so that Baby Peach’s cries wouldn’t be as loud.

“Do you have milk?” Peach questioned.

“Yeah,” Mario responded.

“Try giving her lukewarm milk,” Peach suggested.

“Doesn’t she need a baby bottle or something?” Mario said.

“Oh right… I’ll have one of my servants drop off some things at your house,” Peach stated. “But, you have to return them once the babies have left. Just wait twenty minutes.”

“Sure,” Mario hung up. “LUIGI! WE’LL GET BABY SUPPLIES IN TWENTY MINUTES!”

“Okay, but I’m kinda busy at the moment!” Luigi exclaimed. He was trying to break up at fight between Baby Mario and his own baby self.

“Mine!” Baby Mario tried to pull a cookbook out of Baby Luigi’s grasp.

“No! Dis mine!” Baby Luigi pulled the book even closer to him. The two babies continued fighting for the cookbook until it flew out of both of their arms. Luigi caught it in midair.

“Neither of you can have the book,” Luigi stated, about to put it where both of the babies wouldn’t be able to reach it. Unfortunately, Baby Mario and Baby Luigi crawled to Luigi and tried climbing up his legs.

“My book!” Baby Mario shouted.

“MARIOOOO!” Luigi yelled. “Help me, please!” Mario ran over to Luigi and got the babies off of him.

“Were we really this annoying when we were younger?” Mario put a hand to his forehead. “I’m starting to get a headache. I hope Yoshi didn’t have to deal with this before.”

“Let’s ask him to come over and help us!” Luigi suggested, calling Yoshi on his phone.

“What’s up?” Yoshi asked.

“Can you come over and help me and Mario?” Luigi said.

“Help you two do what?” Yoshi questioned.

“Babysit,” Luigi responded.

“Babysit whom?” Yoshi inquired warily.

“Baby Mario, Baby Peach, and my own baby self,” Luigi stated.

“Umm… No thank you!” Yoshi replied quickly, hanging up.

“Wait!” Luigi quickly called again. “Yoshi, why not?”

“Because of this!”

“What?”

“Hold on, I’ll send you something,” Yoshi hung up again.

“Hey, Luigi! An email!” Mario gestured to the computer. “It’s from Yoshi.”

The brothers opened the email. It was a video labeled Yoshi’s Time Capsule Video. The two brothers clicked on the video and it began playing.

Hello! Yoshi smiled at the camera. You should be watching this by August 15, 1995 or later.

“This video must be pretty old," Mario commented.

Earlier, I met this baby! Isn’t he adorable? Yoshi grinned and the camera turned to Baby Mario. We’re on this fun adventure to save his little brother. Suddenly, Baby Mario started walking towards a Piranha Plant.

No! Little baby! Don’t go there! Yoshi said.

And then…

WAHHHH! WAH! WAH! Suddenly, a timer appeared onscreen, counting 20, 19, 18… Yoshi became annoyed, confused, and frustrated.

What the heck is that?! he exclaimed.

5… 4… 3… The timer kept counting down. And once it reached 0, a group of Toadies fluttered into view, but Yoshi got Baby Mario just in time.

I hate you, Yoshi muttered and the video ended.

Mario and Luigi gulped and looked at each other.

“Strangely, I don’t remember that happening,” Mario murmured. “Weegee, how long have the babies been here?”

“Around twenty minutes,” Luigi replied. “I’m guessing that the baby supplies are almost here.”

“Mamma mia!” Mario exclaimed. “Only twenty minutes? How will we survive three whole hours with them?!”

“Mario… Do you smell that?” Luigi wrinkled his nose. Mario sniffed the air.

“I think… Someone needs a diaper change,” Mario sighed and headed off into the kitchen, where all three of the babies were currently hanging around.

“Wait!” Luigi called after his brother. “We don’t have the diapers yet!”

*two hours and 39 minutes later*

“Peach will be here any minute now,” Mario said.

“I’m glad we were able to keep them entertained for ten minutes,” Luigi stated.

Baby Mario, Baby Luigi, and Baby Peach were watching an educational show for babies called The Adventures Of Tiny Toad. Unfortunately, Baby Peach accidentally turned off the TV using the remote. All three babies immediately began to cry.

Luckily, the doorbell rang just a few seconds later.

“Finally!” Mario exclaimed, opening the door.

“Hello,” Peach said. “How were the babies?”

“Very hard to take care of,” Luigi responded.

As soon as the babies saw Peach, they shut up and smiled innocently. Peach hadn’t noticed them crying.

“Really?” the princess glanced at the silent babies. “They seem pretty easy to take care of.”

“If only you knew…” Mario muttered.

“Well, I better be going with them now. Bye,” Peach waved at the Mario brothers and left with the babies. Suddenly, Luigi pinched his nose.

“We better clean this place,” he said. “It smells like baby feces.”

Tomorrow is my last day of summer which means this will be my last update for quite awhile... Sorry. I do NOT wanna go to school tho. But I hope you liked this chapter! It's somewhat a reference to an episode of The Adventures Of Super Mario Bros. 3 where Mario and Luigi had to be babysitters. Btw August 15, 1995 is the release date of Super Mario World 2: Yoshi's Island (on the SNES). Anyways pls add, comment, vote, etc. Thanks!
