“Hey, Yosh!” Toadette said cheerfully when Yoshi answered the call.

“Hi, Dettie,” Yoshi replied. “What’s up?”

“Wanna go to Smiley Shrooms today?” Toadette asked, unable to contain her excitement. Smiley Shrooms was one of her favorite places to go.

“Yeah!” Yoshi exclaimed. “I have nothing to do today anyway. When should we go?”

“How about now?” Toadette suggested.

“Okay, I’ll pick you up,” Yoshi stated. “See you later!” Toadette ended the call and she let out a high-pitched squeal that echoed throughout her entire house.

Ten minutes later, Yoshi showed up on Toadette’s driveway. The mushroom girl happily skipped outside and stopped in front of Yoshi’s vehicle.

“What an odd-looking car,” Toadette murmured.

“Six years old and good as new,” Yoshi grinned. “I had it renovated to fit more than one person, so you can hitch a ride with me!” Toadette looked at the green dinosaur’s vehicle for a moment longer before realizing what it was.

“Oh!” she gasped. “You used to drive this sometimes in Mario Kart Wii!”

“Yup!” Yoshi patted his Sprinter. “Decided to try it out now… Despite the fact that this thing is two Mario Kart games behind.”

“It’s alright!” Toadette giggled. “Let’s go!” She and Yoshi then proceeded to Smiley Shrooms, looking like cool, vintage, crazy kids…

Even though they were adults.

When Yoshi and Toadette arrived at Smiley Shrooms, they literally jumped out of Yoshi’s Sprinter. Then they ran to the payment counter, cutting everyone in line and causing a few children to cry. Luckily, the cashier at the payment counter didn’t notice any of the sudden commotion.

“One child pass and one adult pass for three hours, please,” Yoshi said to the cashier. Toadette was the “child” because there had to be at least one adult per group and Toadette looked more like a child than Yoshi.

“Okay, that will be 400 Coins,” the cashier stated. Once Yoshi paid, he and Toadette ran into the indoor playground. On the way there, they passed a big sign that said “REMINDER: ONLY THOSE WHO HAVE A CHILD PASS CAN PLAY”.

“Oh, who cares about that stupid sign?” Yoshi snorted. This wasn’t the first time that Yoshi and Toadette went to Smiley Shrooms and Yoshi broke the rule every time. Luckily, he was never caught.

Soon, Yoshi and Toadette had arrived at the indoor playground area.

It was basically a typical active kid’s definition of fun. Swing sets, seesaws, slides, monkey bars, merry-go-rounds, ladders, jungle gyms, bridges, climbing walls, and more playground essentials were EVERYWHERE. Yoshi headed for a slide while Toadette ran to a jungle gym.

After an hour, Yoshi found Toadette, who was on a swing.

“WHEEEE!!!” Toadette yelled, going way higher than the other children on the swings.

“TOADETTE!” Yoshi shouted. Toadette jumped out of the swing in mid-air and landed on Yoshi, causing both of them to collapse to the ground.

“Sorry,” Toadette giggled.

“Whatever. I’m hungry, let’s eat,” Yoshi said. “And since I paid for the passes, you’ll pay for the food.”

“Okay!” Toadette said before she and Yoshi raced to the food stands. They bought a milkshake, a bag of cheese-flavored potato chips, and a giant chocolate-chip cookie each. Then, Yoshi and Toadette sat down with their food and chatted for a bit.

Once they had eaten all of their food, they resumed playing. After an hour and a half, it was time for Yoshi and Toadette to leave Smiley Shrooms.

“Today was fun,” Yoshi stated on the way to his Sprinter.

“I know right,” Toadette agreed. “Let’s do this again tomorrow!”

Yoshi and Toadette were indeed children at heart.

Even tho this chapter is quite short and only exactly 600 words I really enjoyed writing it. And in case you didn't know, Smiley Shrooms was mentioned in Chapter 15, which is titled "Aftermath". Are/were you a playground-loving kid? I was definitely one when I was younger! My fave playground essentials were the swings and monkey bars!
