21. Sleeping Contest
“I’m so sleepy, I can’t wait for this thing to start!” Luigi yawned.
“It will now, since everyone is present,” Peach assured, leading her three guests to one of the many guest bedrooms in her castle.
The four friends were going to have a sleeping contest. Whoever could stay in bed for the longest time would win 500 Coins from the other contestants.
Peach led Luigi, Toad, and Birdo to a large guest bedroom with two bunk beds. Each bed had a cozy blanket, lots of comfortable pillows, and curtains. The room also had three armchairs and a table.
“This is cool,” Toad looked around.
“Omg, I can’t wait to fall asleep here!” Birdo squealed.
“Everyone, choose what bed you want,” Peach said. “I’ll take the remaining bed.” Toad and Birdo chose the top beds, while Luigi and Peach chose the bottom ones.
“I like this bedroom,” Luigi said.
“Well, does everyone know the rules?” Peach asked.
“Let’s go through them one more time,” Toad suggested.
“Alright,” Peach replied. “As soon as I say ‘go’, we head to our beds and try to sleep. The point of this contest is to stay in bed longer than everyone else. You have to try to keep taking naps. When you can’t stay in bed any longer, you have to get out and wait in one of the armchairs here. Also, you have to keep your curtains closed for as long as you’re in the bed. This room is made in such a way that you won’t be able to hear each other while you’re in bed. Does everyone understand?”
“Seems simple enough,” Luigi nodded.
“I’m ready!” Birdo exclaimed.
“Okay then… Go!” Peach said. She and the other three contestants ran to their beds.
*eight hours later*
“How much time has passed?” Luigi said aloud when he woke up from his nap. He remembered that they started the contest around midnight and since there was a window in his area, he looked outside. The sun was out and it looked like it was morning. Luigi decided to take another nap and the comfy blanket and pillows helped him do so.
*four hours later*
Toad decided that he couldn’t sleep any longer. He stepped out of his bed, only to find out that everyone else was still in their beds.
“Damn it,” Toad muttered, sitting on an armchair.
*another four hours later*
“I wonder how many likes the photo I posted on Shellstagram yesterday has now,” Birdo said to herself. “But, my phone is outside… And if I leave my bed now, I’ll probably lose… Ugh! I give up. I’m going out.” Birdo went out of her bed and was surprised to find out that Toad was already sitting in an armchair.
“Hey,” Toad sipped his mug of hot chocolate, which he got before Birdo woke up.
“Hi,” Birdo sat down, holding her phone. She opened the Shellstagram app.
“What are you doing?” Toad asked.
“Nothing really… Ooh! 58 likes!” Birdo grinned.
*two hours later*
Peach woke up for the third time during the contest.
“I wonder if anyone’s out yet,” Peach murmured. “But, I won’t find out because I’m going back to sleep.” And she did just that.
*three hours later*
“I don’t know if I can sleep any longer,” Peach said when she woke up again. “However, I have to try.” After about half an hour, she managed to fall back asleep.
Meanwhile, Luigi was also awake.
“I’ve probably slept for a really long time now… But, I bet I’ll lose if I go out now,” Luigi repositioned his pillows. “I’ll try to sleep more.” It was somewhat hard, but Luigi eventually went to sleep again.
“How long have we been here?” Toad questioned.
“I’ve been awake for five hours,” Birdo answered. “They have to wake up soon. Idk how much longer I can wait.”
*five hours later*
“I’m going out now,” Peach stated, exiting her bed. Toad and Birdo were sitting on the armchairs, but… Where’s Luigi? Peach thought. Is he still asleep? Peach assumed Luigi was still asleep and she was rather disappointed in herself.
“Hi, Peachy,” Birdo said.
“Peach! You’re finally awake!” Toad glanced at the princess.
“How long have I been asleep?” Peach asked.
“If my calculations are correct, you’ve been asleep for about 26 hours,” Toad replied.
“Do we wake Luigi up? Or nah?” Birdo questioned, glancing at the only bed that still had closed curtains.
“Let’s not,” Peach said. “I want to see how long he can stay in his bed.”
*fifteen hours later*
“I think I’ve been here long enough,” Luigi said. “I’ll go out now.” He went out of his bed and found Peach, Toad, and Birdo in the armchairs…
But, all three of them were asleep.
If you add up all of the hours, Luigi was asleep for 51 hours! And that's over 2 days. Lol I probably would have been last if I were in this contest. The pic in the mutlimedia should give you an idea of what the room looks like. I think it's cool! Btw this book almost has 100 votes! Anyways pls add, comment, vote, etc. Thanks!
