One year before Thalia ran away

Luke ran out of the house and down the hill. He ran towards the lake.

He was scared.

He was scared of his mom.

He didn't understand what was happening. And it scared him.

"Dad," He looked at the sky, "please, if you're listening, please help me." He stood there, waiting for a sign, anything, that would show his dad had heard his prayer.

Nothing.

Nothing, like usual.

"Please," he whispered. He sank onto the ground and started sobbing.

His dad hated him, never listened to his prayers.

He got up and went back to the house. His mother was inside, baking cookies. "Luke, come in, I baked cookies!" She said. Luke went inside and sat at the table. His mother put out the cookies. They were burnt, as usual.

His mom had a problem with seeing. She wasn't blind, but she couldn't see anything properly. It wasn't her fault, but all Luke knew was that she had signed up for a special job when he was a baby, and something had went wrong. Now she would fall on the ground and start talking nonsense every once in a while.

It was scary.

That's why he was scared.

He took one look at the cookies, and pushed them away. "I don't want any," He told his mom, and he ran to his room. On the way, he saw his mom doubling over, her eyes green. He looked away and ran faster.

Luke couldn't do anything, and it scared him, it scared him so much.

So that night, he ran away.

He ran and never looked back.
