Chapter 9 | The Mother's Pity

The Hound took Lilia down the hallway, to another wing of the Keep. She quickly recognized it as Maegor's Tower, where the Royal Family sleeps. He knocked on the door and waited for someone to come in. She was confused, she didn't know why she had been brought there. All she knew was that she wanted to disappear. She noticed that he had been trying not to hurt her, but it didn't matter how gentle he was, just breathing pained her body.

Joffrey had taken away her pride, her honour, her dignity, she had nothing else left! She was never going to be able to take some of those things back. He broke her apart, she would never be able to forget and just move on!

When the door was opened, Lilia saw the last person she ever thought she would see at that moment. Someone who she never thought would know about this, someone she didn't expect to show her compassion about it.

"Bring her inside and leave us" those were the only words the woman preferred. The woman poured a drink in a cup and delivered it to the Stark girl. Lilia didn't think twice and drank everything all at once, leaving the woman extremely surprised to see that. "I'm a bit surprised that you took everything without asking what it was or worrying about it being poisoned"

"That would be the best thing that could happen to me right now" Lilia commented in a trembling voice, leaving the other woman speechless. She couldn't face her, she couldn't breathe, she couldn't close her eyes without seeing their faces. "But since you insist. Was it poison? Am I going to suffocate in the next seconds or am I going to start cough blood or something like that?"

"No, it was Moon Tea," the woman told her. Lilia froze at the mentioning of that tea. She knew what use it had and it took her a moment to fully understand why she had to take it. "You don't want a bastard growing inside you, do you?"

"Why are you being so kind to me, Cersei? You've made it quite clear that you hate me, so why?" she asked without any ceremonies. She had no time to worry about titles and ways of directing herself to the woman. She had realized that a title didn't protect her from the dangers that common people had to face on a daily basis. The woman threw Lilia a towel and showed her a bath that had been prepared for her. As Lilia tried to stand up, she fell on her knees. The Queen helped the girl up and helped her get inside, which the girl refused anyway since she didn't want to be touched more than necessary, but it was necessary so she had no other choice. She hesitantly got inside, still unsure if allowing Cersei Lannister to help her had been a good idea.

The water was very hot and it burnt her skin, but she didn't mind anymore. She had been through far worse that night, she could handle hot water for certain. However, it still ampliated the pain she was feeling. Lilia knew she needed that bath, she knew that if she didn't clean herself, their dirty hands would mark her body forever.

After a moment where she stood static, Lilia rubbed her body, to try to wash off any trace of those men's hand on her, but she knew she could never do that. Her body looked bad but she felt a thousand times worse and just the touch of her hand on her bruises made her flinch.

"I guess I felt compassion" she explained simply as she drank a goblet of wine. "I tried to talk him out of it but he didn't listen"

"Of course you did" she sarcastically remarked. "Let me guess, this doesn't even bring you a little amount of satisfaction or joy?"

"To be honest, no. It might sound shocking to you, but as a matter of fact, it does not. Sadly" she said quite indifferently. She tried to avoid the girl's body, she didn't want to show her pity, even though her body looked far more terrible than Cersei ever thought her son could leave it. "No one deserves to go through what you had to. Joffrey was blinded by the strange affection he feels for you, I believe. He's not an easy boy, he never was"

"His affection for me? He raped me, he spanked me as he made me count each time and he commanded that every person that accompanied him took turns raping me!" Cersei was shocked at that insinuation. She knew what her son was going to do, but she never knew that he would go that far. She never imagined such a thing, she never imagined he could be that cruel. But the horrible truth was that, sometimes, the things he did were shocking, even to her, his own mother. Sometimes he did things beyond her dirtiest imagination, and what he did to the Stark girl, was one of those things. She never thought she had raised a boy capable of doing that to a girl, to a highborn girl who was to his sister by law, let alone "Do you know how that felt like?!"

"Were you a maid?" the lioness asked and the girl looked down. Cersei truly felt compassion for someone, along with something she hated to feel – pity. She hadn't felt like that in a very long time ago. It was a sensitive topic to her for various reasons. "I'm very sorry for what happened to you"

"You being sorry or not being sorry doesn't erase anything! He took everything from me and I will never forgive him for it! I want to die!" she cried at the top of her lungs. Cersei approached her and hugged her tight as she cried. She had been through a similar situation once with her own sister. She felt like she had time travelled for a moment and it was happening all over again with different people. She was truly appalled by what her son had done and she felt shame that he had.

She helped the girl out of her bath and gave her a brand new nightgown. Then, she brushed her hair and once she was done, she realized that she had let her walls down to Lilia Stark, who had a life just as tragic as any Tywin Lannister's daughter.

"Nothing that happened here will leave this room, Lilia Stark" Cersei cleared out, to which the girl just nodded. In her eyes, Cersei Lannister could never be a kind person but then she figured that she might as well just change her mind. "As for what happened to you, it's not going to get any easier but if you want to survive and keep your sister alive, listen to me when I tell you that you should do as the King requests you to do"

"Thank you for your help" the girl politely said and Cersei gave her a smirk. "I won't forget and neither will the North"

"Don't be a fool, girl!" Cersei said despisingly. "And don't expect me to buy that dutiful farçade you've been selling everybody! I'm smarter than that and so are you!"

Lilia turned her back on the lioness and walked towards Sansa's chambers. It was almost morning and she couldn't stand it... being in the chambers that had been torn apart. She couldn't stand what had happened. She couldn't stand to be in that room and she didn't know if she would ever be.

So when she knocked at the door and found Sansa getting ready by her handmaiden, she broke down on her knees, getting her sister to kneel next to her, very confused with what had happened. Sansa didn't understand what was happening, but just by looking at her and the purple wounds that she had, Shae, Sansa's handmaiden realized what had happened to her.

"Who did this to you?" the foreign handmaiden asked straight away. Sansa gave Lilia a nod, indicating that she could speak freely because no one would dare to hurt her. "You smell fresh and clean, what happened?"

"Tonight the King and his men stormed inside my room and he finished what he was going to do in the throne room," she said as she broke down between her cries. Sansa was appalled and her heart broke right there. "He did what he liked, as he liked and then he made his men take turns doing what they very well pleased"

"Lia..." Sansa didn't know what to do or what to say. Her sister was numb to the feeling, it felt like she wasn't even with her, it felt like she was still there. Lilia felt like she was sleepwalking, without a way to wake up. She didn't have a purpose in her life anymore. She was nothing.

"Sandor Clegane took me elsewhere, to get me cleaned up. Someone arranged it, but I don't know who. All I know is that he/she left me this nightgown and a bath ready for me" she confessed, leaving both Sansa and Shae extremely surprised. Lilia decided not to tell anyone what Cersei had done, she decided to keep it a secret, since she knew that walls have ears and if they didn't know about Cersei's sudden wave of charity, then they would learn about it and she didn't want that information to be public. "He saved my life"

"Who would arrange it?" Sansa asked still a bit confused about it. Lilia froze where she stood, she didn't want to tell her it had been Cersei and she didn't want her to find out.

"It doesn't matter who arranged it. For all we know you could be carrying a child in your womb as we speak" Shae pointed out, earning a nod from Sansa but Lilia shook her head negatively.

"Whoever arranged for it, made one of the servants give me Moon Tea" the girl explained to her sister and her handmaiden. "But even if I'm not carrying a bastard child, there is nothing left of my reputation. I'm ruined and everybody will know because he decided to have the bloody sheet sent to Robb as a message!"

Sansa gave her a pitied look as she helped her sister up and, along with Shae, they walked her to her chambers, which was being cleaned by handmaidens sent by the Queen. Of course, they didn't know it, but Lilia did. Zoran was among the handmaidens, who gave her a pitied look. The news had taken over King's Landing and there was nothing she could do to stop it. Soon, they would have reached Westeros and her honour would be inexistent for people.

So, this chapter has one of the things I like the most and that I'm the most proud of, which are the conversations between Cersei and Lilia. One thing I like about Cersei is that despite everything she has done, she still has some humanity left and we get to see it here.

Another thing I'm very excited to talk about (when I figure it out, of course) is Cecilia Lannister. Eldest daughter of Tywin and Joanna, we know she's dead but we don't know her story whatsoever.

And lastly, I want to say that this Lilia plot is a huge deal for me. The thing with rape and being sexually harrassed is something many women (and men, even though not many come forward) deal with on a daily basis, and as much as it seems like I'm saying this as if it were no big deal, for me it is. Lilia Stark is a representation of what is done to women in our XXI century world.

I hope none of you has had to go through anything like this but if you had, then I want you to know that it's okay. It's not okay in the way that you must get over yourselves (I hate it when people say this), it's okay in a way where you don't have to be ashamed about it because you did nothing wrong, they did and sooner rather than later, they will pay dearly for it. And another thing, you are not alone at all. It might look like you are, but you never are.

I wish you the best guys, just wanted to leave this out here.

Hope you've enjoyed!
