Chapter 29 | The Wolf and the Bastard

Hi!

So... first of all I want to apologize for the delay but lately I've been going through some personal stuff which has disabled me to publish this story. Don't get me wrong because I have a solid part of the third book written and edited already, so this isn't about the fact that I didn't have anything to post - I did, I just didn't have the time or the right mind to post it.

In any case, I have brought to you the LAST chapter of this book and, as promised, you can find the third book in my page (it's not up yet).

Thank you so much for following Lilia's journey throughout another book and I hope you keep following her life onto the next book.

Without furthering this boring introduction, enjoy the chapter!

It was finally the day that Lilia had feared the most out of the days she had spent in the Capitol. She was standing in her chambers with handmaidens all over her.

She had taken a bath, she had her hair in an updo, some sort of bun and on top of it, she had placed a crown on her head. It was a golden crown, different than the many she had seen Cersei Lannister wear throughout her time in King's Landing. It was golden and had many jewels in it... diamonds she would say. It wasn't a crown, it was more of a tiara and one she had craved for the longest time.

Her dress was red and had golden lions sewed in the front. But the dress was different, it had fishes and wolves as a pattern even though one could not see them at first.

She was suddenly walking inside the Sept of Baelor as the people of the city rioted and once she got inside the people gasped because those were not the colours of duty, those were colours for war.

"Wake up!" Lilia felt her body being shaken as she confusingly opened her eyes as she tried to process her own dream. It felt so real... it felt like she was actually there and she was heading somewhere to do something which was going to change her life, she just kept wondering what it was. She didn't have much time to think about that though, especially since in front of her stood Nymeria Sand, the second-born daughter to Prince Oberyn Martell.

She hadn't gotten the chance to speak to Nymeria, all she knew was by reputation since the Dornish woman would not say much to the Stark girl. Unlike Tyene, Nymeria didn't make an effort to be friends with everybody that set foot in her life.

"What are you doing here?" Lilia questioned cluelessly. Winter Rose growled at Nymeria but Lilia made sure to keep her wolf quiet. She didn't want the guards to realize something odd was happening, but at the same time, had the guards let her just pass by her?

"Your ship is going to sail right now, so get ready! You don't have much time!" she nodded as the woman commanded her. Nymeria threw her some clothes for the journey, which Lilia dressed without hesitation.

"I was told the ship was going to sail in the morning" Lilia commented as she dressed her own cloak. She petted Winter Rose as she kissed her fur and got ready to leave with her.

"Well, change of plans! We must leave now!" Lilia walked out of the enguarded door with Nymeria, who carefully walked through the hallways. Suddenly, when they heard a sound, they hid in another corner and Nymeria lifted her dress, getting one of the many daggers she had inside of it. Lilia's eyes widened and she put her two hands on her mouth in order not to react.

When the way was clear once more, they walked out of the Palace from the North doors, far from the eye of the guards and of Doran Martell. In front of it stood a small, merchant's carriage was there, ready to take her and Winter Rose away forever. In front of it, was standing Daemon Sand, whom Lilia had not laid eyes on. They hadn't talked since the kiss and Lilia thought she was never going to see him again.

"One of Arianne's trusted people is going to take you to the port. I must stay here but Daemon will escort you" Lilia nodded with a grateful smile. Nymeria handed her a letter at last with House Martell's sigil and she smiled. "Arianne wrote it for you, she'd like you to read it and keep it"

"I will" the girl promised. "Thank you for your help, I shall not forget it"

Nymeria did not reply and instead turned her back on Lilia Stark and walked out of there. Winter Rose was placed on the baggage place and Lilia headed inside and took her seat on the carriage. She looked at Arianne's letter and broke the seal, facing it.

"Dear Lilia,

Neither Tyene nor I could attend you in this moment of great need but we have found a way to help you. I don't know where you shall go but my uncle does and he shall tell you before you leave.

Now that you have left us, I want you to remember what you've learnt with us. You have survived so far and I wish us to meet once more so, for that reason, I wish to give you a piece of advice.

Don't stop fighting, now that winning isn't the only option and remember that women have many weapons, being our mind one of the most important but when it fails for some reason, keep in mind that the best weapon you could possibly have is the one between your legs. Use it wisely and play your cards carefully.

Find your strength within what you're given and never give up, never surrender. You are the she-wolf of the North, never forget that.

I wish you good fortunes in the wars to come,

Arianne"

"She wrote to you," Daemon says as he takes a seat in front of Lilia, who simply nodded as she looked at her feet. "I'm sorry for what I said to you the other day"

"I have feelings for you and you have feelings for me as well and you know it" Daemon didn't say anything at the boldness of the girl in front of him. Instead, he remained quiet and silent as he thought about her words. "Why do you keep denying it even now?"

"Because I can't act upon them and you know it," he said, at last, making Lilia swallow hard. "I'm just a soldier and you are a Lady, you are a piece in this game, a VERY important piece in the Game of Thrones"

"I don't want to play the Game of Thrones, I want to play this game!" she explained as she moved closer to him, making him look into her eyes with surprise. Her eyes were headed to his lips and she approached them, not sealing them completely. She closed her eyes as she took a deep breath and her voice came as a whisper. "This is a game of want and wanting. I want you, Daemon Sand, just like I know you desire me"

"My Lady, I...," he thought about an excuse to give the beautiful girl standing in front of him, but the more he thought, the more he was sure of what he was dying to do. So, after fighting himself, he finally gave in and kissed her lips.

Lilia Stark hadn't felt that way in a very long time but unlike the last time, she was a woman now, so when he kissed her neck the only thing she did was enjoy it.

Soon, moans of pleasure filled the small carriage. The kisses made Lilia feel complete and the tenderness Daemon acted with made her feel loved and cared for. Unlike what had happened the first time, Lilia enjoyed love-making and when they were finished, she had no other choice but to get dressed.

The rest of the way was spent with urgent kisses that had been suppressed due to duty and to worries, but all of that was over now and though they had shared intimacy, Lilia knew it would be the very last time because once she got to her brother, she would be rushed into a marriage convenient to him.

"Have I hurt you?" he asked at last. Lilia shook her head negatively with a smile on her face. Daemon returned the smile and kissed her once more. "You have my heart, Lady Stark. And though I'm aware I'll never be more than a soldier who lives far from you, I'm glad I've gotten the chance to have met you. No matter how painful saying farewell will be"

"I hope you fall in love again, I hope you build a family of your own and I hope you get to be happy in this world" she confessed as her hand was placed on his cheek.

The moonlight hit Lilia's skin, making it look silver and, to Daemon, Lilia Stark was much more valuable than silver or even all the gold in the mines of Casterly Rock. Her smile showed him how happy she was but the brightness in her eyes showed him how sad she was to leave.

"My Lady, we're here," the driver said to them and Lilia took a deep breath. She got outside the tiny carriage and once she got to the port, she found Oberyn standing on the platform near the ship.

She ran towards him and jumped onto his arms, which were wrapped around her waist. It was a meaningful hug for both of them, a farewell that both of them hoped not to last forever.

"Thank you, thank you, thank you," she said repeatedly in his ear.

Oberyn had always thought that one day he would bed Lilia Stark, at the beginning of course. However, as time went by, he began to see her as a friend and looking at the girl in front of him, his only desire was to protect her. All the filthy thoughts in his head had vanished when he got to know her better.

To see her run away pained him and though he was playing with fire when helping her, he could not help but feel that she was worth being burnt for.

When his eyes met hers, he watched as the tears streamed down her cheeks and he gave her a small smile, cleaning her tears with his thumb.

"You really thought I would let the Lannisters dig their claws on you? Never" his hands rested on both sides of her face, making sure she would not look away from him. "Your aunt will receive you at the Eyrie, she awaits your arrival"

"I don't know how or when I can repay you, but know that I'm in your debt and I shall pay it" Oberyn nodded and kissed her forehead, hugging her one last time. "The Lannisters aren't the only ones who pay their debts"

"Indeed they're not"

Lilia's fingers slowly parted away from Oberyn's hands as she left their friendly embrace. Then, her eyes locked with the squire's and the Dornishman was forced to see the young, charming girl he had once wanted running into his own squire's arms, embracing him and kissing his lips feverously.

It didn't surprise Oberyn one bit though.

As soon as she approached him, he knew she smelt different and judging by the scene in front of him, the smell came from Daemon Sand. From there onwards, it didn't take a genius to guess what had happened inside the carriage on their way there.

He didn't take it badly, in fact, it made him happy somehow. He was happy to see Lilia Stark having something in her life which made her feel good but he felt for both of them because he knew that they could never be together. Just as Daemon couldn't have been with Arianne, he would never be able to stay with Lilia Stark. They were two forbidden lovers who had been forced to bid farewell and think of each other as a far memory.

That was one of the moments where Oberyn disbelieved the Gods. The fools who believed in them, including Lilia Stark, were nothing but that... fools who didn't know any better. If the Gods existed, then all Oberyn would have to say about them would be that they were vicious, bloodthirsty, cruel bastards that didn't deserve a drop of pity or kindness in the world. Where had they been when his sister and his nephew and niece were slaughtered? Where were they now when a girl had to flee not to face a life more miserable than the one of a criminal? A fugitive?!

He watched as Lilia finally got inside the ship with her loyal Winter Rose and as it set sail, she let the night wind against her face, messing her hair. Somehow, a part of her had stayed in Dorne and she had realized something very important – she was northern but she had learnt how to behave like a dornishwoman and she didn't know how to be any different anymore. A part of her would always be dornish and no one could ever change that.

So, we've come to an end! Just as I have done in the previous book, I will be posting another chapter where I explain what we've seen and what was my goal with this book. Thank you for being here and reading my book despite the controversial moments.

Bye!
