Chapter 11 | Spark of hope

Lilia didn't leave her chambers that day, instead, she laid there, crying. The pain wasn't the thing that made her feel the worst, the memories were. Every time she closed her eyes she would see their faces, she would hear their voices, she would feel their touch.

The day after, Zoran arrived with the food and clothes the Queen had sent her. It was a black and gold one that covered her arms and her neck just enough so that no one would gossip about her wounds more than they already did.

"I don't want to eat, Zoran," she said dismissingly. "I don't want to get dressed. Leave"

"I expected you would say that" the blonde lioness states as she takes a look at the girl. She looked absolutely miserable. Her hair was a mess and her wounds were visible enough. Cersei grabbed a lemon cake and handed it to Lilia, who refused. Yet, her arm was still there, waiting. "Will you eat it or will I have to force it down your throat?"

Lilia second-guessed as she grabbed the lemon cake hesitantly and took a bite. Just like her sister, Lilia loved lemon cakes. However, the taste of them on her mouth made her stomach tumble and her eagerness to throw up grew inside her.

"Drink," the woman said as she handed the girl a goblet of wine. Lilia looked at the wine confusingly. Why would she drink so early in the mourning? "It helps to forget about your problems. Drink"

Lilia looked at the goblet a second time but did as she had been told and poured the liquid down her throat. Cersei grabbed the goblet of wine as she put it on the table.

"Thank you," Lilia said as she faced the woman, who took a moment to appreciate the girl's gratefulness. "You've been very kind to me, Your Grace"

"Today you must leave this hell hole," she said as she poured wine for herself. She took a sip as she looked at the Stark girl, who was afraid of what she would hear after. "My brother wants to speak with you. I know, it's boring and totally unnecessary but he insists"

"I don't want to leave this room," Lilia said simply as she petted Winter Rose who had come to her from the corner of the room. Cersei observed the direwolf calmly laying in there. She never thought the wolf would be so quiet.

"Darling, you don't have much of a choice here. I understand that maintaining a conversation with that little beast is not the most pleasant thing in the world but it is what you will do. You will go to see my brother and hear what he has to say" the Queen commanded with authority. Lilia waited for the Queen to go away but the lioness didn't move an inch. "What? Are you expecting me to leave you to complain to your handmaiden? Not going to happen. And let's be honest, I've seen you the way you've come into the world already"

Lilia undressed without facing anyone. Zoran helped her with her corset and with the dress. Then, they went to her dressing table, where Zoran combed the girl's hair. Lilia hadn't taken a moment to look at herself in the mirror those past days, but once she did, she realized that she wasn't there anymore. Lilia Stark was no longer there, she was dead. Only her body was living, her soul and everything that held her together was broken and the damage was beyond repairable.

The Queen fetched some Lannister soldiers to escort her there. Lilia hadn't been inside that place in the longest time. Ever since her father had been executed.

As she got inside, Tyrion Lannister was already there waiting for her, along with his new companion. He stood up from where he stood to greet her with some sort of hope in his face.

"Lady Stark, I'm glad you came," he said as he approached her, making her take a step behind. Tyrion was very surprised when she did that and soon, his facial expression changed completely to a more concerned one. "Would you like to speak about it somewhere else quieter and... more private?"

"No, right here is fine" she shortly said as she looked down at her feet. Tyrion barely recognised the girl who was standing in front of him. She didn't look like the girl who stormed inside that throne room to protect her sister and she certainly didn't look like the girl he met at Winterfell. He took a seat, indicating for her to take the one in front of his. "Leave"

The Lannister soldiers left her alone with Tyrion and Bronn, who was worried about everything but what was to be discussed in that meeting. Lilia's gaze was on the man who, upon the undying silence inside the room, looked at both of them.

"Bronn here is a good soldier, he's here to defend me from possible threats. Not that you are one" Tyrion said with a reassuring smile that Lilia didn't retribute. Instead, she walked towards the empty chair and took her seat, as pain rushed through her body. "Bronn, fetch Lady Stark another chair"

"It doesn't matter, it will pain me anyway" Tyrion imagined that she was right. He couldn't say for sure, but after what she had been through, it was only natural that it was that way. He gave Bronn a look and he fetched her a pillow, trying to lightly make it a little more comfortable for her back. However, she quickly stepped away as she trembled in fear. Tyrion stood there, amazed at the girl's behaviour. What had his nephew really done to the girl? "Don't come any closer. Don't touch me"

"No one is here to hurt you, My Lady. You are safe here" he tried to calm her down, altering nothing at all. Bronn looked at the Lord as he shook his head negatively. Tyrion didn't remember one time where he had to go through that but he did remember the stories he had heard. No one talked about them anymore, but Tyrion knew. "Bronn is a soldier, he's here to protect you if someone hurts you"

"The last time someone told me that I believed them and those good soldiers who would protect me..." Lilia couldn't bring herself to finish her statement. She didn't cry, even though she was terrified. "What did you want to see me for?"

"Your brother has sent my father a terrible joke and he demands his justice as it is understandable" Lilia understood what terrible joke the imp was talking about. The bloody sheet and the nightgown Joffrey had sent Robb. "With Renly Baratheon dead, the only person who your brother could turn to would be Stannis Baratheon who is getting ready to march on the city very soon. If your brother allies himself with Stannis Baratheon, we would be crushed and it would bring consequences on all of us... including your sister, who would be considered a traitor by being betrothed to the King. So, to avoid this tragedy to happen..."

"You would ask me to write my brother a letter, dissuading him of any idea he could be having at the moment about seeking help from Stannis Baratheon in order to save you all" Lilia stated as she looked the Lannister's hopeful face. She remained silent for a few seconds. "No"

"Lady Stark, think about this..." as he tried to reason with her, Lilia cut him off before he filled her head with ideas she would never even consider herself.

"NO!" she yelled at him, catching him out of surprise. He never expected that she would storm out in that manner. "Are you really asking me to write my brother a letter pleading for Joffrey's life? You have the wrong Stark"

"Lady Stark, think about the innocent people in the city..." he pointed out as tears were ready to stream down her face. Tyrion never expected the girl to be so fragile. "I'm sorry. Lady Stark. I understand..."

"You understand NOTHING!" Lilia screamed as she stood up violently. Bronn took a moment to look at the girl, she was completely torn apart as tears devoured her perfect features. Her eyes didn't have the same light or the same fire Bronn had seen the day he first saw her on the throne room. "I was innocent as well! I had nothing to do with my brother's military success and yet Joffrey grabbed his men in the middle of the night and he stormed inside my room. He beat me, he humiliated me, he raped me. More than once. He had his men hold me down as I tried to fight their grip! And he also did other things a Lady should never say out loud while I BEGGED for all of them to stop! I WANTED TO DIE! I ASKED HIM TO KILL ME! DO YOU KNOW HOW ALL OF THAT FELT LIKE?! He promised he would be back and that he would do worse if I did not oblige"

Lilia was consumed with tears and was on her knees, as Tyrion stood there without knowing what to say. He was shocked. He didn't expect his nephew to do such a vile thing to an innocent girl. As he looked at Bronn, he saw compassion over-radiating the man.

"Lady Stark..." Tyrion muttered as he got closer to her. She crawled behind and he stood there. He kneeled in front of her, at a comfortable distance as she hid her face on her knees. "Listen to what I have to say. I will get you out of here, away from Joffrey and his madness"

Lilia looked at the imp as he looked at her with pity. She hated that look, she despised it profoundly. Nevertheless, she knew why people pitied her... she pitied her own self. It was sad and very depressing to admit that, but it was still the truth.

"By what? Marrying me off like some broodmare?" she attacked him straight away. Tyrion knew he had deserved that one and many more after what he asked of her. He had asked too much of her.

"My niece is going to marry Prince Trystane Martell. She'll leave in a few days and you will come with her to Dorne... if you want to, of course" when he told her that, she was filled with hope. She would rather be returned to her brother, but between King's Landing and Dorne, she would pick Dorne in a heartbeat. She would be away from Joffrey and she would be away for enough time for her to recompose herself. Perhaps, in the meanwhile, she could escape and meet her brother... There were endless possibilities...

But none of those included bringing Sansa with her. She would still stay in King's Landing, at the Lannisters' mercy. She couldn't leave her alone in the lion's den without any protection.

However, if she did nothing neither of them would make it out of there and help the other. She realized that she had to get to Robb so she could help Sansa and with heavy weight on her heart, she nodded at last.

"It would be my honour, My Lord Hand" Lilia said as she tried to hold her tears. Tyrion smiled to her kindly and extended her a hand to help her stand up again. She took it hesitantly and when she was on her feet, she took a deep breath and closed her eyes in order to recompose herself. "Thank you, My Lord"

"You are free to go," Tyrion said dismissingly. "Bronn will escort you back to your chambers, My Lady"

Lilia nodded and walked out of there with Bronn as Tyrion was left to think on his own. He had done something his father would not approve and that could have disastrous consequences. But then again, the girl's speech was way too emotional for him to just leave her at Joffrey's mercy. He couldn't protect her if she stayed in the Capitol, and his father had commanded him to keep the girl alive and well because they would need her later on. Tyrion didn't know what for and he didn't know to which point he wanted to learn about his father's plans for the Stark girl.

So... remember when I said that Lilia was going to have her own storyline completely invented by me? There it goes.

Tyrion was emotional when finding out what Joffrey did to her and decided to give her a chance to recompose herself but also to manage things in King's Landing since the rumours were spreading across Westeros and many nobles weren't happy with the atrocities Joffrey had been doing instead of rulling the Kingdoms.

Now, Lilia has stood up for herself and she is going to Dorne with Myrcella. I told you at the beggining of this book that I would introduce many characters from the book and this is it.

Since the TV Show has not made any justice to the Martells, someone has to and I decided to do it myself. From now on, there will be many characters that only people who read the books are familiar with and others that we already know (Oberyn Martell) but that the show changed (Sand Snakes, Doran Martell...).

Hope you enjoy what's to come because I'm very excited to show you this period in Lilia's life.
