5. Gay or European?
A/N: So a few things...
1. Yes, I know I could've used the song from Legally Blonde the Musical. However, after thinking about it, I thought this song fit better :) It's very wholesome and makes me happy every time I listen to it.
2. So the chapter after this was originally supposed to come before this one, but I partially rewrote it and then wrote this one because I had a...slight change of plans ;) So if these next two chapters sound sort of weird or choppy, that's why. I wasn't sure how to fix them.
3. I'm still fairly new to the LGBTQ community (I figured out I was Bi around October 2020; it's currently July 2021), so I still have a lot to learn. I did some research and tried to find the best way to explain some of the topics in this chapter. If I got something wrong or if something could be said better, kindly tell me in the comments or DM me and I'll do my best to fix it.
4. Also not me making a PowerPoint on why Thor is the god of lesbians...
Enjoy! <3

Thor walked into the kitchen, heating up water for coffee. Peter graciously gave Steve, Bucky, and Thor a tutorial for how to use a modern day coffee maker one morning, complete with handwritten instructions taped to the wall beside it in case they forgot.
The elevator dinged, Peter--speak of the devil--walking into the room soon after, a thin yellow package in his hands. "Good morning, Mr. Thor," he greeted.
"Ah, good morning, young spider. What are you carrying?"
Peter looked down, blushing. "Oh, this is a flag I ordered for my room. It came in the mail yesterday and I just now got it from downstairs."
"Oh. May I see?"
"Uh...sure," Peter replied, tearing open the package. He unwrapped the layer of plastic on the inside and unfolded a pale blue, pink, and white flag, holding it out at arms length.
Thor frowned in confusion. "I thought you were American. Those aren't Steve's colors."
Peter laughed, lowering the flag so he could see the god. "I am, Mr. Thor. This isn't a country flag. This is a type of Pride flag."
He stared at Peter blankly.
Peter sighed. "I guess I have a lot of explaining to do." He rubbed his eyes. "Where do I start," he mumbled, thinking for a moment.
Thor decided to pour his coffee and sit at the kitchen island, now intrigued.
"Okay, so here on Earth, or Midgard to you, liking the opposite gender is considered 'normal'. So, a man liking a woman or vice versa. However, some people don't. Some people like the same gender, some like more than one, some identify as one gender while being born another, some identify as both, and some don't identify with either genders. We call this population of people the LGBT community. Do you understand so far? This is a lot to take in."
Thor nodded, completely focused on the boy now.
"Okay, so LGBT stands for Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, and Transgender. I'll explain what all of those mean, too."
Thor raised his hand--something he picked up on from group meetings.
Peter chuckled. "Yes, Thor."
"So...I think I'm a lesbian. According to some lesbians on this twittering and tumbling app, I'm their god."
Peter started laughing, but became secretly worried about what Thor had seen on Tumblr. "I think that's more like a joke for them, Thor. Or maybe they just think you're a safe and respectful person. Lesbians are women or some nonbinary people who like other women."
"Ohhh...," he replied. "Like Carol and Maria."
Peter nodded. "Exactly."
Thor raised his hand again. "What's nonbinary?"
"Here on earth, we have a gender binary, which is male and female. Nonbinary folks may not identify with either gender based on their personal preferences. Here on earth, we have things called pronouns, which refer to people. Like she/her and he/him. Some nonbinary people go by they/them. It's important to ask people what their pronouns are when you meet them to make sure they feel accepted and validated. Does that help you understand?"
Thor nodded.
"Okay, so we went over lesbian. The next is gay. Gay people are men who love other men, or nonbinary people that love men can identify with that, too. Basically, you can identify with any label that you feel most comfortable with, or no label at all.
"The next is bisexual. I'm personally bisexual, which means I'm attracted to more than one gender. This can be similar to pansexuality, which is being attracted to more than one gender despite their sex or gender. It's not a defining thing for their attraction or a relationship for them. Both are very similar, but again, it's whatever label you feel most comfortable with. A lot of people here on the team are bi. For example, my dads are. My friend Wade is pan. Normally, I don't tell others what other people's sexualities are, but my dad's are obviously very open about this since they're married. And Wade just doesn't care. Do you understand?"
Thor nodded, sipping his coffee. "That's very cool that you are bisexual."
Peter chuckled. "Thanks." He held up his flag again. "So, most sexualities have flags to help others identify them. It's also just very cool to have flags. I already have a bi flag hanging in my room. It's pink, purple, and blue. This is the transgender flag, or trans flag for short." He took a deep breath.
"So, a transgender person is a person whose gender identity does not correspond with their sex. So...I was born in a girl's body with girl body parts, but I've always known I was a guy, so I started dressing as a guy and taking hormones to help my body look more masculine and to help me feel aligned with who I really am. I'm scheduled to get top surgery in six months." Peter gave an awkward thumbs-up, praying that the god understood his explanation.
Thor set his coffee down and walked over to Peter, engulfing the boy in a hug. "You're a wonderful man. I hope you know that."
Peter sniffed, trying to hold back tears. It didn't work. "T-Thank you, Mr. Thor. That means a lot. You're one of my role models."
Thor ruffled Peter's hair. "I'm honored." He pulled away and gazed at the teen for a moment. "You'd really like my brother, Loki. He's usually a guy, but he's sometimes a girl. One time he was a horse, but I'm not going to get into that. He also likes men and women. Probably..."--he took a moment to recall the right term--"...nonbinary people, too. I'll have to invite him over."
Peter smiled. "That'd be great."
The pair looked up as Bruce walked into the kitchen from the elevator. He waved at the two.
"Ah, Bruce! We were just talking about the--" Thor paused, counting on his fingers, "--LGBT community. Are you gay?"
Bruce appeared taken aback. Peter tugged on Thor's sleeve. "Um, Mr. Thor, it can sometimes be rude to ask what other people's sexuality is because sometimes they're not ready for others to know, or they don't feel safe. Usually, they'll tell you if they want you to know. It's a bit different from pronouns."
"Oh," Thor replied, embarrassed. He didn't mean to make Bruce uncomfortable. "I'm sorry, Bruce. You don't have to tell me. I think it's great if you're gay, but if you're not, that's great, too!" He glanced at Peter, who gave him a thumbs-up. Thor rubbed the back of his neck awkwardly.
Bruce chuckled. "It's okay, Thor. I know you don't mean any harm. No, I'm not gay. I'm demisexual and biromantic."
Thor looked at Peter, then looked back at Bruce. "I haven't learned those terms yet," He said, a little embarrassed.
Bruce walked over to sit at the kitchen island, Thor sitting down beside him. "That's okay. I didn't expect you to know that much yet." He looked at Peter. "Should you explain or should I?"
He shrugged. "I feel like the only one who can explain exactly what you feel is you."
The scientist nodded. "That's fair." He took a deep breath. "So, I identify as demisexual because I don't experience sexual attraction to people until I form an emotional bond with them. And even then, that attraction may fluctuate. I consider myself to be biromantic because I experience romantic attraction to more than one gender."
Thor raised his hand.
Bruce chuckled. "Yes, Thor?"
"Could you clarify the difference between romantic attraction and sexual attraction?" He hung his head. "I'm embarrassed to say I don't know the difference."
"That's okay!" Peter and Bruce interjected at the same time. Bruce continued. "What's important is that you're learning, Thor. Most people don't get this far, and that's part of why the LGBT community gets so much hate." He clasped his hands together, thinking for a moment. "So, sexual attraction is when you desire to be with someone sexually. Some people call this lust. Romantic attraction is wanting to form a deep connection with someone, share your life with them and be at each other's sides through good times and bad."
Thor smiled. "Both of those sound wonderful."
Bruce smiled back. "Yeah, they can be." The three were quiet for a moment.
"Oh, what are your pronouns?" Thor asked.
The two grinned. "I go by he/him," Bruce replied.
"I do too," Peter agreed.
Thor nodded. "I think I do as well." He stood up. "I'd also like to announce that I like everyone no matter their gender!" He outstretched his arms.
Bruce smiled. "That's great, Thor."
Thor turned to Peter. "I know you can stick to walls, but I would love to help you hang up your flag."
Peter sniffed and wiped his eyes. "That would be great, Mr. Thor."
Bruce smiled and hugged Peter. "I'll help too." The three stood up and walked to the teen's room, their arms slung around him.
"Omniscient Lady, is Dr. Banner still here at the compound?" Thor asked from the living room couch. Most of the team went out for drinks. He never saw Bruce as the drinking type, and Thor didn't really feel like going out that evening.
"Yes," Friday replied.
"Great! Could you, uh, ask if he's free? I want to know if he wants to watch a bird documentary with me." In all honesty, Thor couldn't remember how to use the remote, and wanted an excuse to see the scientist, but he also thought there could be a chance Bruce wanted to watch it with him.
Friday was quiet for about twenty seconds. "Yes, he said he is free," she finally said, startling him.
Thor smiled. "Great." He proceeded to fidget with a couch pillow. Should he go get a blanket to share? Would that be weird? Two blankets?
After an internal debate, he finally retrieved a pair of blankets from a basket in the corner when the elevator dinged from the edge of the joined kitchen. Bruce stepped out wearing gray sweatpants and a black t-shirt. Thor found himself staring at how cute and cuddly he looked. Then again, he always looked like that to him.
"So, Friday told me you wanted to watch a bird documentary?" Bruce asked, snapping Thor out of his thoughts.
"Oh, um, yes. I actually don't remember how to use the remote." He blushed, tossing the blankets on the couch. "You can just turn it on and leave if you want."
"Oh no, I'd love to stay and watch it with you," Bruce replied, walking closer. He held out a hand, which Thor shook, a confused look crossing his face. Bruce laughed. "I was gesturing for the remote."
"Oh." Thor blushed even harder as he turned and fumbled for the remote. He decided to sit down to avoid embarrassing himself any further. "I um, brought some blankets. We can each have our own, o-or we can share. It's up to you."
Bruce sat down next to him, their legs almost touching. "I don't mind sharing." He grabbed a blanket and threw it at Thor while he scrolled through documentaries. "Okay, so Netflix has one called Dancing With The Birds. It's about how tropical birds attract mates. It's around an hour long. Does that interest you?"
"It sounds great," he replied, unfolding the blanket and draping it over them.
"Friday, dim the lights to thirty percent, please," Bruce commanded. He snuggled further under the blanket and kicked his slides off to sit crisscross.
The pair watched the documentary for about twenty minutes before Thor asked his first question.
"Do humans court each other in this manner? Is this something I need to be aware of?" He pointed to the male bird on the screen hopping around the female and flashing his feathers.
Bruce paused it, chuckling. "No, not usually. Yes, we dance together, whether it's slow dancing or grinding in clubs, but it's not the primary thing to get someone to fall in love with you."
"Oh."
"One of us should probably show you how to dance sometime. It can be pretty fun."
Thor nodded, studying Bruce. "So, hypothetically, if I was attracted to someone and wanted to be with them, how would I go about courting them?"
Bruce thought for a moment. "Okay, this may be easier with an example. So say that hypothetically, we were attracted to each other. One of us would probably ask the other out on a date to get to know each other better. But courting can start before the first date, too. Like just casually talking to each other and trying to find similar interests, or helping each other with different things." Bruce faltered, thinking back to the things they'd done together. They were totally courting each other, weren't they!? How did they not realize it!? He tried hiding his blush. "This is all, hypothetical, of course."
Thor nodded. "What do couples do when they start dating?"
Bruce was internally screaming. Just make your move already! The Hulk side of him yelled. "Um, well, that can depend on the couple. Typically, they support each other emotionally and try to help each other become the best versions of themselves. They support each other's dreams and goals. But, most couples are also physically involved with each other, like kissing, hugging, and cuddling. Some couples also have sex." He looked at Thor. "Don't you Asgardians act similarly when in relationships?"
"Yes," the god replied after a moment. "Mostly, anyways. I was just curious if anything was different. How do you feel about physical things in relationships, being that you're demisexual?"
Bruce smiled at Thor's thoughtfulness. That was something he was good at. "If I'm with the right person, I don't mind the physical stuff. It just may take a little bit into the relationship to experience sexual attraction. It all depends. That was a good question, though. Thank you for asking."
Thor nodded, gazing back at the paused TV.
"We can resume now, if you want," Bruce said, grabbing the remote.
"Okay," he replied, still appearing lost in thought.
The pair sat on the couch, finishing the documentary. Well, more like Thor finished it. Halfway through, he felt a light pressure on his shoulder and saw that Bruce had fallen asleep, his head falling to lightly rest on the god. Pausing the finished movie, Thor reached over and carefully removed Bruce's glasses, which seemed like they'd be uncomfortable to sleep in for very long. He set them on the armrest, then just stared lovingly at the scientist, considering the idea of asking him out.
Peter walked into the kitchen from the hallway and happened to look over, covering his mouth. "You look so cute!" he whisper-yells. "Can I get a picture?"
Thor looked at Bruce, then nodded. "Don't show anyone though. Except for me. Text it to me."
Peter smiled, pulling out his phone. "I will." Thor kept his gaze trained on Bruce and smiled as he took the picture.
"Just act like I'm not here," the teen whispered as he turned to get Pizza Pockets out of the freezer.
Thor chuckled and gently stroked Bruce's hair. He started to lightly snore, and it was adorable.
The rest of the team stepped out of the elevator a few minutes later, back from their round of drinks. Peter immediately shushed everyone, pointing to the couch. Everyone let out a few "aws" and walked over to the living room.
"It's about time," Tony whispered.
"For what?" Thor whispered back.
"Well, by the looks of it, one of you finally asked the other out!"
The blond looked at him, his face contorting in confusion. "Um...No? He just fell asleep on me?"
"You mean you're not dating?" Steve asked incredulously. "You two are head-over-heels for each other."
"One of you guys needs to ask the other out before one of us does it for you," Tony declared.
Thor shifted uncomfortably, looking at Bruce, who was still sound asleep.
"What were you two doing in here while we were gone, anyway?" Tony demanded, hands on his hips.
"Dad, you're being really rude!" Peter scolded. "Just let them do whatever they feel like doing!"
Thor cleared his throat. The whole situation was growing awkward. "Please excuse us. I'm going to take Bruce to his room. Goodnight, everyone." He slowly lifted the blanket off of the small man, then carefully picked him up. The group parted, Thor walking past them to Bruce's room. He opened the door carefully and closed it behind him. With one hand, he managed to turn on the bedside lamp and pull the covers back on the scientist's bed.
Thor knew it wasn't appropriate to change Bruce into more comfortable clothes without his permission, so he pulled the covers back over him, figuring he'd wake up and change on his own if he was uncomfortable enough.
The god turned when he heard a gentle tap on the door. Cracking it open, he saw Peter standing on the other side. "You left his glasses on the couch. I grabbed his slides, too," he whispered. "Also, sorry about my dad."
Thor took the glasses from the boy. "Thank you. And I understand that your father can be nosy sometimes. No hard feelings." He nodded at Peter as a dismissal. "Goodnight."
"Goodnight," Peter replied. "Thanks for helping me hang up my flag."
He grinned at the boy. "Of course." He slowly closed the door, turning back to Bruce. The scientist sighed in his sleep, a trace of a smile on his face.
The god set the glasses beside the lamp. "Sleep well, Banner." He gazed at the man for a moment before leaning down and pressing a chaste kiss to his forehead. He then pulled the chain on the lamp and quickly left the room before he started to panic about his actions.
In the dark, Bruce's eyes fluttered open. He couldn't control his smile.
