Chapter 32

My eyes are glowering down at the feline shrinking in the leather couch. Xavier's ex has her hands in her short curls while I'm standing in front of him with crossed arms.

"Touch the card." Kali breaks the silence, handing the card to the lion.

He hesitates for a moment but eventually takes it.

"Now pass it to Anika," she orders.

Anika glares up at the sorceress. "You're overreacting," she says.

Kali flashes her an innocent smile. "Then I don't see the problem in touching the damn card," she says in a honeyed voice.

They stare at each other for a moment before Anika gives in, snatching the card from Xavier's hand.

Why would he date a damn huntress?

"Thank you," Kali says, making me focus on her.

With the card in hand, she walks back to what I like to call magick space.

Candles and crystals are hanging on the wall in front of her, unknown objects are also on the floor. Her living room screams of witch vibes now that I think about it.

She built her house in a way that everything looks claustrophobic. She loves tiny spaces filled with objects, and this room reflects it perfectly. With a couch, a coffee table, and her magick space, there's little space left to walk around. The fact that she has books and other witchcraft objects lying everywhere on the floor in a neat mess makes things worse.

She sits on her knees on the fluffy pillow as I can feel someone's hand rest on my hip, followed by a kiss on the other side. My heart picks up the pace while my feline happily purrs in my mind, enjoying the lion's attention.

Meanwhile, my favorite part happens. I love watching Kali in her element. It's as if she turns into a completely different person. There's a circle of leaves around her with four lighten up pink candles forming a square. My high hearing hears mumbles coming out of her mouth, and my heart stops when the flames of the candles vanish at the same time.

A blinding light coming from the card makes me squint my eyes but goes away as soon as it appears. I can't help but glance at Anika, finding her big brown eyes looking at Kali in awe.

A small smile sneaks up on my lips. She gives her that look, but she's trying to run away anyway.

"You never told him you were a huntress," Kali speaks up.

I frown, walking close enough to peek at the card lying in front of her. My eyes widen. The death card. "What does it mean?" I quietly ask. He's not gonna die, right?

"Fear of change," she starts. "It's in reverse, and I'm not surprised. From what I'm seeing, it looks like they were in a loveless relationship for a long time. Ugh," she flips the card to the other side before turning her head back toward the ex-couple. "What the fuck is wrong with you?"

Xavier shrugs his shoulders. "I don't know, I'm not the one keeping secrets from my partner," he says, glaring at the huntress.

She snorts before laughing. "Oh, God, shut up, please. I just found out that you are a fucking werecat."

Xavier raises an eyebrow. "So what?"

Her eyes widen. "Are you—" she takes a deep inhale, standing up. "You know what? We broke up, so fuck you, Xavier. I don't owe you any explanation." With that, Anika walks to Kali and grabs her wrist, pulling her up effortlessly. The look on Kali's face tells me she didn't expect that kind of strength from a human.

Nonetheless, Anika drags her out of the room, leaving Xavier and me alone. "I told you it was a loveless relationship," he says.

I cross my arms over my chest, slowly approaching him. "It's not that. I just thought it was weird of you to date a huntress and leave that part out."

He smiles, pulling me by the arm toward him. I let my body straddle him. "Is that jealousy I'm seeing?" he asks.

I chuckle, shaking my head. "No, I was just scared for you. Imagine having an ex that knows how to kill you in a thousand ways. I wouldn't have left as well," I joke, receiving a laugh from him.

"See, I knew you'd understand me," he teases as I lean down, letting my lips touch his.

Xavier smiles through the kiss, and I can't help but mimic him. He pulls away, quietly looking at me, making me blush as usual. I blame his eyes for it.

A bang coming from a door makes us jump. "Headmistress!" a male voice yells, bursting inside the house.

I quickly get out of Xavier's lap as the man keeps calling Kali. Quick footsteps grow louder while I peek my head to the hallway, finding a tall black man walk out of what I guess might be the kitchen. "Headmistress!" he calls again.

Kali comes down the stairs with a frown on her face and swollen lips. I smirk. "What happened?" she asks.

"Werewolves are here," he says.

My heart stops. Kali's head snaps to me. I give her an awkward smile, making her sigh. "I can't be dealing with this shit at 5 pm. Where are they?"

"On the border."

She nods. "Make them come here."

"But—"

"Now, Bernard," she orders, and his shoulders slump as he nods his head.

Bernard walks out without saying another word. A tense silence lingers in the air.

"We should probably leave," Xavier says, stopping beside me.

Kali shakes her head. "No, I'm curious to see what that prick has to say now."

"Prick? What did he do to you?" I ask.

"Do you have any idea how hard it is to fall asleep when you can hear humans screaming in the middle of the night?" she asks, massaging her temples as if hearing the screams now.

"How can you hear them from here?"

"Remember the cliff illusion? They all run here because of it, but he manages to grab them before they have a chance to pass on my territory."

The thought of the poor humans dying by the hand of wolves breaks my heart. "I feel bad for them," I comment.

Kali shrugs her shoulders. "That's karma, I guess. Let's just go to the living room. They should be here soon."

I nod, and a couple of minutes later, the front door opens again.

Tall Bernard walks inside the room with Dante, Michael, and two other buff guys behind them. Xavier and I sit back down on the couch since it's the only space left.

Dante's eyes land on me, and he smirks. "I believe my employees are here," he says, shifting his gaze to the headmistress, "What do you want for me to take them?"

Kali's face settles in a frown. "They're not for sale if that's what you're asking."

The Alpha raises an eyebrow. "I wasn't going to give you money. They stepped into my house and created chaos in my pack. As an Alpha, I can't let that go unpunished, so we can take them the easy way or the hard way."

My breath hitches when Kali's face hardens, and a chilling vibe makes my skin crawl. "Watch your manners under my territory. I am not letting them walk out of here with you of all people." Her eyes turn a silvery color, making tall Bernard flinch.

I wonder what that means. It's the first time I've seen Kali's eyes turn like that.

Dante's jaw clenches. "I'm giving you one last chance before I send my warriors inside."

She smirks. "Do it then."

My mouth drops at how confident she is. I can't let them kill each other for us.

I stand up, stopping Dante's next words. "We'll come," I say.

Kali glares at me. "Sit down," she orders. Foxy submits to her instantly and forces my body to sit down against my will.

"Now, now, you heard the cat, she'll come with—" Dante gasps, his hand flying around his neck.

I swallow a lump. I glance at Xavier, finding him wide-eyed as well.

"I could destroy your pack of animals with the blink of an eye. Guess it's the perks of being one of the witches that can see and control chemical elements. I bet you feel like the oxygen disappeared, right?" she asks with a shivering smile.

Dante drops to the ground, trying to breathe. Unresponsive to her. The wolves approach their Alpha but stop when Kali glares at them.

She crouches down to his level and grabs his face, forcing him to look at her. His face has gone beet red. "Now, I will give you back your oxygen. Try to defy me again, and I'll lower your iron levels so much that you won't be able to walk one mile before passing out."

With that, she waves her hand around and stands back up as Dante gasps chunks of air.
Without saying another word, he quickly stands up, storming out of the house with the other wolves behind. I notice Michael giving me a weird look as he walks out.

What was that about?

Dismissing that thought, I focus back on Kali. The witch blinks, letting her eyes turn back to their original dark color. As if it was a sign, Bernard quickly walks up to her, and a second later, she faints, collapsing into his arms.

I gasp, approaching the warlock and his impressive well kept coily hair. "Is she alright?" I ask him.

He nods, giving me a small smile as he picks her up in bridal style. "The headmistress rarely uses her gift because it weakens her. We try to protect her from using it, but in situations like this, we can't do much about it," he explains.

I thought I knew Kali as the back of my hand, but it seems like even the sweetest and only girlfriend I've ever had has kept secrets from me.

"She never told me about it," I quietly say, making Bernard chuckle.

"She never tells anyone what she is capable of doing. She enjoys mastering the magick of the tarot cards, and she tries learning the magick of herbs as well, but between you and me, she's a lost cause for it."

I chuckle, looking at her peacefully sleeping. "We should probably leave. We've been causing you guys already too much trouble," I say.

Bernard nods his head. "I will accompany you to the borders. If I may ask, where will you go now? I'm sure the headmistress will ask me this information once she's awake."

I glance at Xavier, finding him looking at me with a tilted head. I smile, looking back at Bernard.

"My home."

Not really proud of this chapter cause I know I can insert more scenes but nevermind, I'll think about it on the second draft 😩 Thank you for reading and don't forget to vote! x
