Special Power

Adia

Chauna and I are alone stuck inside the cave. Mommy went to go hunt breakfast for the whole Pride, while daddy is out patrolling the land as usual.

I hate being in the cave. It's boring! Every since that lion came into the Pride Lands and saved us from those two hyenas the day before yesterday, things have been pretty crazy lately at Pride Rock. Meaning, daddy is patrolling twice as much than before. Mommy is keeping a secret from us and so is Aunt Kiara and Uncle Kovu.

Cubs aren't even allowed to play without an adult watching them. We can't even play until mommy comes back home from her hunt.

Chauna lays bored on the ground. She flicks a small rock with her paw. "I am so bored! There's nothing to do in here but stare at the cave wall all day."

I sigh. "I know. It sucks so bad! It's all that lion's fault..."

"Hey, haven't you forgotten that the lion had saved our lives? He seems pretty nice Adia. Without him there, we could have been goners."

"No we won't! Daddy would have found us right before that lion did."

Chauna rolled her eyes. "Whatever. All I'm saying is, it's not his fault why we're stuck inside the cave. I mean, part of it is. But mainly it is our own faults. We shouldn't have been far out of the Pride's territory anyway."

I stand and walk up to the cave's entrance/exit and peek out my small head to see if mommy or the hunting party are back. "Well, I had to show daddy my bravery that I am ready to become the next Lion Guard leader."

She snorts. "You brave? Please! You ran up that tree so fast before me when those hyenas had came for us. How come you didn't try to roar at them? Don't you have that special roar too like daddy does?"

Irritated, I frown at my twin sister. "So what! I panicked and didn't know how to face them alone. You could have helped me too ya know, Chauna. I don't know if I have Daddy's special roar. I've never tried it..."

"Me get killed because of you Adia? Oh no, I'm good on that note! And you should try roaring."

"I don't know if I should. I rather wait for the right time if I really need to. If I see another hyena again then maybe!"

I hear the sound of paw steps come forward to the cave's entrance/exit. It's mommy back from the hunt and is carrying a large piece of hippo meat in her mouth.

Oh boy, my favorite!

I smile happily as she walks inside the cave. Chauna and I greet her by rubbing our bodies against her furry legs. Mommy sat down the meat. Chauna and I admittedly run for it and dig in.

It is past morning now, but who cares! The hunting party had to hunt late due to the meeting that they had with King Kovu and Queen Kiara. I wonder what was it about?

"Hello my sweet little angels!" Mommy smiles. She licks the top of our heads.

I gave her a soft purr while eating my late breakfast. Once we were done and full, we sat down for a few minutes to let our small bellies digest.

"Mommy, can Adia and I go play with our friends?" Chauna asks.

"Sure." Said Mommy, nodding. She lays down. "But right after your bath you can play!"

Chauna groans. She doesn't care for baths. Unlike me, I really enjoy and love them! It is very relaxing I do have to say...

I happily place my body between mommy's front paws. She begins grooming between my ears first. Next was my face and thirdly my belly. I start giggling because it tickled! The last thing she has to clean is my bottom and then I'm finished.

"Okay Adia, you're all done and clean." Said mommy, releasing me from out of her grasp. "Chauna come along sweetheart it is time for yours!"

I skip my way out the cave to go play while leaving my twin sister behind. I wonder where's Mosi and that new kid Sahel? I went to go check behind Pride Rock. They could be there with the lionesses.

Sure enough I was right! Sahel and Mosi are both wrestling on the ground as always. Sahel has Mosi now pinned, which ended their little game.

I crouch low to the ground, eyeing Sahel. Each step forward I move slowly but quietly.

3...2...1...

I let out a loud growl and pounce on Sahel, knocking him off of Mosi.

"Aaaaah!!!" Sahel screams.

Sahel falls on his right side. I held him down with a giggle.

"Hi, Sahel!"

"You scared me and had completely got me off guard!" He said.

Mosi walked over and gave me a high five. "Good job, Adia!"

"Thanks!" I smile, high-fiving back.

Mosi noticed Chauna isn't around. "Where's your sister?"

"Getting her bath with my mommy. She'll be with us shortly! It may take a while since she doesn't like them."

Sahel got up on his four paws and dust himself off from any dirt. "I just gotten a bath too after breakfast and now I'm back dirty again!"

Mosi rolled his eyes with annoyance. "You'll be fine Sahel..."

"No I won't! My mama is going to kill me. She hates when I get dirty up."

I nod. "Yeah, same with my mommy!"

Mosi shrugs. "My mom doesn't fuss that much at me about that. The only thing she gets mad about is when I stay up too late at night with my dad."

My ears fall down. "Well at least you have your dad to spend time with you. I don't see why your mommy would be so upset. He's just trying to spend some time with you!"

Sahel sits down and raise a brow. "Adia, what do you mean at least Mosi has a dad that spends time with him? Don't you see your dad too?"

"Barely. He's always so busy with the Lion Guard."

"Oh right. Aunt Kiara did mention that to me before when I first came here. She said Uncle Kion is a very busy lion and doesn't stick around as much."

I frown while looking over to the side. "Yeah, but whatever."

Sahel smiles and puts his paw on my right shoulder. "Hey, don't worry cousin! How about we play another game?"

"A game like what?"

"Hunter!" Mosi beams.

Sahel also smiles and nod in agreement. "Okay sure! How about I'm the hunter and you two are zebras trying to get away?"

I chuckle. "Zebras? Alright."

Sahel growls at us. Mosi and I run off like any prey would. We ran into the tall grass.

"This is fun!" Mosi laughs.

I run beside him laughing too. "It is! You think he'll find us over here?"

"Let's see. Follow me this way Adia!"

I nod. Mosi makes a sharp turn around a tree. I follow him and try to keep up since he's a much faster runner than I am. Mosi stops running and stood on top of a grassy hill.

I stop running too and pant. "Is he...going to...find us...here?"

Mosi shakes his head and smile. "Nope! Remember, he doesn't know his way around the Pride Lands as much like you and I do. This may take him all afternoon."

"Oh wow, well I hope Sahel doesn't get lost!"

"He shouldn't. That's why he has eyes and a nose. This will test his hunting instincts like how my dad would say and teach me!"

I sat down next to Mosi on the hill. "Alright. If it takes too long for him to find us Mosi, we're going to look for him."

Mosi nodded without a word. We wait patiently for Sahel to find us.

"Okay, it is taking a bit too long now." Said Mosi, while looking around to see any signs of Sahel.

I stand up. "Come on, let's go find him."

"Aaaaaah!!!" A voice screams.

"Sahel!" Mosi and I both yell.

Oh no...

Mosi and I zoom down the hill and follow the sound of Sahel's scream.

"Help!" He cries. "Someone please!"

"We're coming Sahel!" I yell.

I notice we're getting more close to the voice. Mosi and I jumped from out of the tall grass and see Sahel surrounded by the same two hyenas from the other day Chauna and I had met.

I growl at them showing my tiny claws. "Stay away from my friend!"

Mosi quickly rush over to Sahel as the hyenas turned their attention towards me distracted.

The brown one laughs. "Hehehe!"

The other one with spots smiles evilly. He slowly walks over to me. "Well, well, well, isn't it that same lion cub we've met the other day? What an surprising visit!"

"Haven't you learned your lesson before cub?"

I frown at them. "Don't come any closer, I'm warning you!"

The brown one laughs again. "Or else? Like we're afraid of a small little lion cub!"

The one with spots growls. "You were lucky last time when our old friend had saved you. Now there's no one here to stop us. So you might as well give in!"

"No!" I snarl.

I take a step back and release a very loud roar. A roar that caused the hyenas to blow away. They fly in the air with screams and land on the other side of the grass.

Mosi and Sahel both watch with their eyes widen in shock.

"What the hell?" The brown hyena asked. He stood back up on his four paws dizzy.

The spotted one looks frightened and ran with his tail between his legs. "Come on Dojo, let's get out of here!"

Two both leave out of the Pride Lands. I stand looking confused myself.

What did I just do?

Sahel and Mosi both ran up to me with proud smiles.

"Hooray Adia, you've saved the day!" Said Mosi.

"Yeah, thanks for rescuing me! Those hyenas had came out of no where." Said Sahel.

Sahel hugs me, I smile. "Oh, no problem cousin!"

"What type of roar was that?" Mosi asked. "It was awesome!"

"I don't know..." I say, still a bit confused. "Let's get out of here and go home."

They nod. Mosi led the way home. I slowly follow behind them.

I look down at my paws and whisper, "Oh my gosh, I have the roar like daddy. That's my special power!"

I smile wide. Finally, I know what my power is. My parents are going to be so proud once I go home and tell them. I tilt my head high with pride.

What a great day...
