Kion
I'm sitting on Pride Rock's ledge staring at the beautiful wide kingdom. The sun is slowly setting. Night will fall soon.
I guess I'll give myself a break from guarding today...
I realize how tired I have become. I have bags now under my eyes and my red mane isn't well groomed anymore. I'm loosing myself day after day.
Mother is right, I need a longer break and sleep...
But the Pride Lands need me. If something ever goes wrong I wouldn't be there to stop it. The animals here count on me and the rest of the team for their safety. I won't let them down!
I stand up sticking out my chest releasing a roar that echoed across the land. It sent birds flying out of their trees. Herds of zebras that are nearby looked up at sky trying to figure out the sound.
"Uncle Kion, uncle Kion!" A small voice calls.
I twitch my ear and look over my shoulder. It's my nephew Makosa.
I smile. "Hey there buddy!"
Makosa climbed on my back and sat on top of my head. "What ya doing?"
"Oh nothing, just having some thoughts and watching the sunset. How come your back home this late? Where's your brother and parents??"
"Zazu and grandma brought me home. Grandpa, mama, and daddy are out trying to find Heri."
My eyes widen. "What?! What happened?"
Makosa's ears fell flat. "Well, my friend Bahiya and I were busy playing in the Grasslands earlier. Two hyenas somehow found us and tried to attack us! But a lioness came and fought them."
"A lioness? What lioness??"
"The same one that daddy had seen while hunting last week and the one grandpa Simba found the day before yesterday. Don't worry, she didn't hurt us at all! She was really nice. She protected us."
"Hmm..."
"No one knows what happened or where my brother Heri is. I hope he's out there okay! My other friend Auni claimed that he went to go save me and Bahiya. But Bahiya and I never saw him. It's all so strange..."
I furrow my brows. "Perhaps the hyenas could have found him."
Makosa gasps. "Uncle Kion don't say that!"
I can easily sense that Makosa is upset about his brother's missing. I grab him off my head and sat him down gently in front of me. I wrap my large paw around him for comfort. Makosa cried a tear.
"Don't worry. We'll find him Makosa! I'm sure he's alive. I do hope..."
"A-Are you going to tell the other guards?"
I smile. "Yes. They'll help too!"
Makosa hugged my paw and sniff. "Thank you, Uncle Kion."
"Now, go in the cave. It's getting late! I don't want you up all night worrying about your brother. I'm sure grandma Nala is in there."
Makosa nodded and left walking inside the cave.
I sigh.
Just when I thought I was free from problems...
I have to help my sister find her other cub, my nephew...
I'm sure Kiara is worried sick...
Just as I was about to walk down Pride Rock to find my guard team...
"Kion?"
I look behind me and see Aala.
Why is she up? Shouldn't she be inside with the others??
"Aala, it's getting late shouldn't you be inside with the rest of the pride where it's safe and warm?" I say.
"I just wanted to thank you again for today that's all. That was very brave of you. You risk your own life with those crocodiles." She said.
"That's my job and you're welcome!"
I finish walking down the rest of Pride Rock. Aala followed quick and beside me.
"Where are you going in such a hurry?"
"One of my nephews is missing. I have to help my sister find him."
Aala gasps. "Oh no!"
I nod. "Yeah. This may take all night, I have to gather up my guard team again."
"How about I help? I mean, you helped me today. I want to return the favor."
"No Aala, it could be dangerous. Hyenas were here again in the Pride Lands earlier."
She grins. "I ain't scared of no darn hyena. Now let's go!"
I gave her a stern look. "Aala I'm serious. What about your mother and sister? Do they even know that your out??"
"What am I a child? Haha, Kion you crack me up!"
Aala walked ahead of me. I stood there looking very unsure.
Man, she's so stubborn...
"If something ever happens I hope you know you're responsible!" I said.
"Blah blah, yeah yeah I know." She said, rolling her eyes.
I walk up to her side. Aala chuckled and swat her tail on my rump. "You worry so much."
"I've already rescued you twice now."
"And I thank you for that Kion. But I'm an adult, I can handle myself now."
I smirk. "Oh really?"
"Yes!"
"Fine. Guess I'll let you rescue yourself then for now on."
"Wait what?"
I begin to run seeing the Grasslands up ahead.
Aala frowned. "Hey, what does that suppose to mean Kion?"
I shake my head. I really don't have time for her right now. I need to find Kiara and the others if their still here.
"Kiara?" I call.
"Oh Kion!"
I push my way through the tall grass and found Kiara with Kovu. She has tears stained on her cheeks.
"Kiara!"
I ran quick to her. She hugs me right sobbing.
"What's wrong? Where's Heri??" I ask.
Kovu sighs sadly. "We still can't find him."
My ears flatten. This isn't good..
"Where's my father?"
"Simba is still looking with the lionesses. He won't give up even though I told him a million times that it's getting late. It's not safe during the night. We'll have to keep looking in the morning."
Kiara continues to cry on my shoulder. I hear paw movements behind me. It's Aala who finally catches up.
"Kion could you please give a warning before you sprint off like that again?" She said out of breath.
"Aala?" Kovu questions. "What are you doing here away from Pride Rock?"
"To help look for your son. Any luck?"
"No..."
Aala looked sadden. "I'm so sorry. Kion and I came here to help look. If that's okay?"
Kiara un-hugged me and look at Aala with a half smile. She sniffs then nodded, "Yes, that would be good. The more eyes and noses we have, the more better chance we have in finding our son."
Aala gave the future Queen a hug. "Anything for the future Queen and King."
Kovu smiled joining in the hug while I watched in the background.
Don't worry Heri, we're coming to find you...
