Hyena Problem
Mheetu
Next day, morning...
I open my eyes and got up with a nice long stretch. I look around the cave seeing that most of the pride is already woke. King Simba, my brother-in law is not here. He must of went on morning patrol with Zazu. Nala, Kovu, Kiara, and Kion are all chatting with my so called other big sister Neera.
I still can't believe that I have another sister. Like wow! I wonder why mother never mentioned her to me.
Weird...
"Good morning, Mheetu!"
I turn to my left seeing my best friend Haiba come forward. I smile, "Good morning!"
"Hey, can we talk outside for a second?"
"Oh uh, sure!"
I got up and follow Haiba outside of the cave.
"So, what do you want to discuss?" I ask, sitting.
She looks down shyly waving her tail low side to side. "Mheetu, I-I sorta..."
"Sorta what?"
"I sorta like-"
"Good morning!" Timon the meerkat greets, interrupting Haiba's sentence.
I nod. "Good morning, Timon and Pumbaa!"
"Have you guys seen Simba around? There's something I have to tell him."
"Which is?"
"Hyenas are in the Pride Lands again!" Said Pumbaa the warthog.
Haiba gasps. "Oh no. I thought Simba had got rid of them a long time ago. How is this possible?"
I shrug and got up walking back into the cave. "I don't know but come on. We have to inform my sister and the rest of the pride!"
They nod while following fast behind me.
"Nala, Nala!" I call.
"Yes, Mheetu?" She answers. Nala is laying beside Kiara.
"Hyenas are in the Pride Lands your highness!" Said Pumbaa.
"What?!"
"Pumbaa and I were bug hunting just minding our own business. Then a hyena jumps out trying to attack us. We made a quick run for it back to Pride Rock. Where's Simba when we need him?!" Timon shortly explains.
Kion sigh rolling his eyes. He put a paw on his forehead. "Ugh, trouble again?"
"We should all form multiple search parties to look for any clues of where these hyenas are coming from. I'm sure there's a clan close by." Said Kovu.
Kiara nodded, "Good thinking, love!"
"Someone has to go get Simba. I'll get him!" Nala said, while standing up.
Neera shook her head. "No, your pregnant. You need to relax and let us deal with it. I'll go find your husband."
"Okay. Thank you!"
With that, Neera got up and race out the cave. The rest of us got together placing everyone in groups for the hyena search. Nala and Kiara sadly couldn't join us since they're both pregnant. No one doesn't want anything bad to happen to the unborn royals, who are also my future nieces or nephews too.
Kovu, Haiba, and I are all in the same group.
"You guys are ready?" Kovu asks.
I nod. "Ready!"
We exit out the cave walking down Pride Rock. Kovu leads us through the tall green grass.
"There's always a problem. Why can't we all just rest in peace?" Haiba complains.
I shrug, "I don't know. But we have to get to the bottom of this. Animals here could get hurt or any of the pride members."
"Yeah." Kovu said, agreeing.
We continue walking. I notice Haiba wasn't beside me anymore. She had stopped. Why?
I look over my shoulder. "Haiba, what's wrong?"
She sniffs. "I smell something."
Kovu sniffs too. "Yeah, a very strange odor."
I tried sniffing as well. I walk up to a tree and see claw marks. "It's the hyenas. They're claiming territory here. This isn't good!"
"We need to get answers from the animals as if they had seen them here before." Said Haiba.
"The scent is still very fresh. They've must of been in this area not too long ago. It's too close to the waterhole where we drink. Changes will have to be made, new laws to discuss." Said Kovu.
I smirk, "Look at you sounding much like a King!"
"What? Oh, I'm just using what Simba had taught me. He said becoming a King you must lay down smart rules and laws for the kingdom to follow. You also have to claim your territory no matter what throws at you."
"That's true!"
Haiba starts walking back to Pride Rock. "Come on, let's see what the other groups found!"
Kovu and I nod our heads pacing behind her.
*********
"We found many paw prints on a trail that our pride always take to the waterhole." Said a lioness.
"Our group found scent and claw markings on trees. They're claiming our territory! Something has to be done now." Said Kovu, stomping his paw at the end of his sentence.
Nala joins the large pride circle and sits next to me. She agrees with the Prince nodding her head. "Yes Kovu, something does need to be done. The hyenas obviously are not afraid of us since they're claiming our favorite hangout spot the waterhole. Simba and I will have to discuss deeply about this when he comes home."
"Yeah, cause I don't want my son or daughter entering the world with hyenas around the Pride Lands. He or she wouldn't be able to play outdoors! I would have to constantly worry about them getting hurt or worse killed." Said Kiara.
"Don't worry sweetie. I wouldn't dare let anything come across you or our cub!" Said Kovu, nuzzling her.
"Speaking of Simba, here he comes right now!" Said a lioness.
We all turn our heads to the cave's entrance/exit seeing a tired King Simba walk in. Nala admittedly stand up and gave her mate a "Welcome home" kiss. He quietly purrs nuzzling her.
"How are you and the baby?" He asks.
Nala chuckles. "We're fine."
Every since Nala had announced the whole pride that she's expecting another cub, Simba has been more protective over her than ever. He barely let's her hunt or leave the cave. Now since there's hyenas back in the Pride Lands, he's definitely going to be on edge.
"Simba have you heard the news?" I ask.
"What? About the hyenas?? Yeah, Neera found me and told me. That's why I'm back so early from patrol." He said, sitting.
Neera shortly walks in the cave and join us sitting next to her mate Jacob, who's been quiet the entire time. I always think that he's shy.
"What are we going to do?" Kovu asks Simba.
Simba furrow his brows. "We need to find this clan and spy on them. You know, see what they're up to. I don't want to charge at them right away. I'm going to give them a chance to explain themselves first. If they turn out to be rude and try attacking, then I'll find a way to deal with them."
The pride nod. Some of them whispered.
"I'll go inform the Lion Guard team." Said Kion.
Simba nodded. Kion exit the cave.
"No one goes to the waterhole due to safety reasons. For now, we drink at Big Springs until this is all sorted out." Simba announces.
The pride did not like the idea of traveling a bit far to Big Springs river. But it's all we have right now until the hyenas leave. Haiba and I look at each other. She shrug her shoulders. We all have no choice but to listen to the King. Simba is smart, I'm sure he knows what exactly he is doing. We trust him.
"Now, what were you going to tell me earlier Haiba?" I ask.
"Huh?" She asks, confused.
"You were going to tell me something. But Timon had interrupted us about the hyena situation."
"Oh. It's not important..."
"Are you sure?"
"Yeah..." She said, kind of sad and walks off to the far back of the cave to go lay down.
I watch her for a moment then look down.
It had to be important for her to sound like that...
I'm going to get to the bottom of it later...
Right now I'm going go see what's for breakfast because I am starving!
