The Lion Boy Part 4
Luke POV (A Month After the Canyon)
I looked around the Alamo. My eyes focused on two little kids, all by themselves. As I watched I overheard their conversation,
"I'm telling you Annabeth, somethings not right here, we should find Dynatos and Axi and leave." This was coming from a little boy, maybe eight, who had tousled black hair, a slightly feline posture, and sparkling sea green eyes. The other kid answered him. She had long blonde hair tied back in a rough ponytail, stormy gray eyes, tan skin like the boy, looked about the same age, and the same slightly feline posture, although it wasn't as pronounced.
"Percy. I like it here. We are staying for at least a week." So Percy and Annabeth it was. They both had large backpacks on, and looked well fed. I nudged Thalia and pointed them out to her.
"Listen to their conversation Thalia. I think they might be monsters." They carried on,
"Annabeth, we're in a huge city. Not like the canyon. Somebody could get hurt." She glared at him and he glared back. As we watched, Percy slowly turned around to face us, and narrowed his eyes. Thalias hand went to her bracelet and shield, Aegis. He noticed and so did Annabeth.
"Annabeth, I don't like the way they're looking at us." He muttered, so low, I'm sure I only caught it because of my enhanced godly-ish hearing.
"Don't you pull another Carlsbad on me mister." The girl said. His glare remained the same, but there was a new slightly irritated layer to it now,
"That was different. I really really didn't like the way that scumbag was looking at you. Besides, Dynatos and Axi said I was right, and they can read minds." Hearing this I racked my brain for information on any gods or monsters that went by those names. I came up empty handed.
"Yes but did you really need to pull down the place." This time he broke the glare and threw his hands up facing Annabeth,
"I was underground which was admittedly a bad idea with uncle and all, but I couldn't help it! He made me mad." Annabeth rolled her eyes. My hand went to my pocket, where I kept the dagger Hal had given me. Thalias hand went to her pack, where her spear was kept in a smaller form. The kids apparently thought that was too much and took off running. We ran after them, and I saw Annabeth pull a hammer out of her back pocket, and Percy pulling a pen out. Strange. Percy whispered something to Annabeth.
"If we have to fight we are not taking down another tourist attraction. Besides theres a riverwalk. This way Seaweed Brain." They ran faster, Percy shouting,
"It was one time!" They kept running. We got down to the riverwalk hot on their trail. They were gone.
"What the heck?" Thalia shouted looking around. Then out of the corner of my eye I saw two ninja kids jumping from roof top to roof top. I turned to my partner in crime,
"Got enough juice to make a little storm?" I asked her. She nodded, smirking. She raised her hand and I knew what was coming. Strangely enough so did the kids, because Annabeth shouted something, Percy nodded, grabbed her hand, and jumped into the river, just as lightning hit the roof. He slammed into the river with the girl, and started running on it. Thalia was just getting started, she was about to call more lightning, as we raced along the sidewalk, when the famed Dynatos and Axi showed up.
Two humongous lions. No mortals seemed to notice, I figured they thought they were stray cats or something. They charged us. The kids stopped running, and turned around. Percy looked worried for the lions. Thalia did her thing. Lightning came down from the clouds, heading straight for the white lion. Percy's eyes blazed and the water in the river literally surged up and caught the lightning, trapping it inside the water. He turned to us, as did Annabeth. Annabeth gripped her hammer, and Percy uncapped his pen.
"Nobody hurts our lions." They said in unison. Annabeths eyes glinted as hard as steel, and Percy's hand caught on fire. The mortals were still oblivious. Percy turned to Annabeth and she nodded. Percy threw fire at us, and before we could blink, the river swallowed the two seven year olds and their pet lions.
We barely dodged the fire. We never had a chance at catching the kids. Thalia cussed like the sailor I suspected she was, and I glared at the river, which was still pulsing dangerously with electricity. Thalia dissipated it and we continued our walk, pride damaged by the encounter.

Later that evening we found a nice alley to sleep in. One problem, it was already occupied by two kids, who had a nice convenient fire going, and were eating tacos shamelessly. We hid behind a dumpster, waiting to see if they would say anything important.
"Got to hand it to you Perce, you make some mean tacos. Another." She clapped her hands twice, demandingly. He laughed, snapped his fingers, and another taco was sitting nicely in Annabeth's lap. Our mouths both dropped open, what kind of kid could
Wield fire,
Has two lions who follow him around,
Can make a river obey him,
And make food with a snap of his fingers.
Needless to say, it was impressive. Percy opened his mouth,
"You two can come out you know. We needed to talk anyways. Rhea says you're okay, and that I needed to find you guys again." We got our weapons but did so, truth be told, we were both pretty darn curious as to who the heck these kids were. Noticing our wariness Annabeth said,
"Hey we won't attack you if you don't attack us. Now sit, Percy will make you a taco." Percy did as she demanded, and we found that Annabeth was right. Percy did make a really good taco.
"I'm Percy. I'm a son of Poseidon and Hestia and Rhea blessed me. Thats how I sensed you. Sense Rhea is the titan of marriage, she also gets a lot of emotions. I feel emotions. Rhea told us you were Thalia and Luke right? Zeus and Hermes?" We nodded warily. This kid kinda creeped me out, what seven year old talked like that? Annabeth went next. I let out a low whistle, these kids had it made.
Food and fire whenever they felt like it? Being able to sleep knowing the lions would protect them? Lets not even get started about looks, they were muscular, no doubt, but not in a gross way, like those child bodybuilders. Percy was lean, as was Annabeth, but dang. I hoped they never decided to play footsies because one kick of those legs and I might cry. I'm not kidding here. I wondered how they got like that. Thalia on the other hand was wondering where the heck they've been. She asked,
"Where have you guys been?" Percy looked at Annabeth, she nodded, like she was giving him permission to speak.
"I've been all over. You can walk a lot of places over two years. I started out in New York and made my way west. I kinda skirted around the Midwest, not much to see there. I did find a nice town in Iowa however that I found quite to my liking. Ankeny I believe it was called. Anywho, I did a lot of sightseeing. I had just gotten back from the Salt Flats and the Four Corners, when I ran into Annabeth. She joined up with our group, and we stole some bikes the next day, wanting to go the Grand Canyon. Once we got there we hiked around the place for a week, and then we headed to Carlsbad Caverns. There, our tourist guide was a perv who started giving Annabeth looks I didn't like, and I kind of got mad and brought down the caverns." He stopped there blushing madly. Our jaws were nearly on the floor by now, even Thalia, who almost never showed that kind of awe.
"Wait that 7.5 earthquake in New Mexico? That was you?" He nodded sheepishly and his blush deepened.
"Whoops?" He said meekly, but continued his story,
"We needed to get out of New Mexico fast, so we biked our butts here, were we had planned on going after Carlsbad. We got here late last night and crashed here. Today all of the crap with you went down. And here we are." He finished lamely.
"So what have you guys been doing?" He asked,
"Oh nothing much." Thalia said, knowing we had nothing on them.
"You guys should come with us. The more the merrier, you know?" He smiled. Thalia and I nodded.
"We're headed to the beach next. Percys dad has a nice place on South Padre Island he said we could use. We're planning on staying there for awhile. If we need to make a quick getaway, we can go to the ocean. After that we're going east, and we're heading to New Orleans. I want to try gumbo. Percy wants to be there for Mardi Gras." Annabeth said. Thalia nodded, but opened her mouth,
"I heard that theres quite the memorial to a bombing in Oklahoma. I wouldn't mind heading up there." Percy looked at Annabeth,
"When's Mardi Gras?" She sighed and rolled her eyes,
"We still have 221 days Percy. I'm sure we can make it to the beach, the memorial, and New Orleans in time." Just then the lions bounded in, and stared at Percy who muttered,
"Wonderful, just wonderful. The bikes got stolen." Annabeth face palmed and looked irritated.
"Well now we are going to be a little pressed on time with rest stops, break days, and everything. But we can still make it." The lions turned to Percy, who threw his hands up and started shouting,
"And why didn't you guys tell us this sooner?!" The lion grumbled,
"We would have been perfectly fine without these leg muscles. Did you see us around the canyon!" They gave the lion equivalent of a chuckle. He pinched the bridge of his nose.
"We're going to have plenty of time Annie. Turns out these two can actually teleport. And haven't been telling us." He glared at the lions. Annabeth started shouting at them, and Percy joined in again. We watched in amusement. They turned to us,
"Stop laughing!" They growled at us, which was quite a feline growl actually. They stopped shouting and settled on simply giving death glares to the lions. He turned to Dynatos suddenly and raised an eyebrow, turning back to face us,
"Why do the lions say that you're looking at us funny?" He asked curiously. His eyes were wide, like a cats. Dang, was everything they did slightly feline. I shrugged and said,
"You guys seem sort of feline, in everything you do. On Annabeth its less pronounced, but its still there. On you, well, its quite noticeable." He straightened and tilted his head slightly.
"I suppose we would be with the lions teaching us to fight and all. They raised me for the past two years. I guess I would have some feline characteristics. Annabeth has been with us for about two months, which is a lot less time, but enough." I thought back to the rooftops and how graceful and ninja like the two kids had looked.
"Makes sense." I said, understanding the situation now. And just like that, all four, well, six of us, had a bigger family.
A/N: AND THATS A RAP. The chapter itself is actually 1,949 words. Its a little long. I actually can not tell you how much I enjoyed writing this. It was so fun looking at Percy and Annabeth from another persons POV. I'll try to write more soon. I have big plans for the beach and Mardi Gras. *rubs hand together excitedly like a Disney villain* Until next time,
