The Lion Boy Part 3
Percy POV
Years passed, I left the orphanage at age five, and I was now seven. The vocabulary I had acquired was probably slightly creepy for those who talked to me. My lions had grown, and were now full size. A couple days after I left, a pen appeared in my pocket. A monster cornered me later, and I found that when I uncapped the pen, it grew into a sword. There was words on it, and I learned its name, Riptide. My lions protected me from the monsters as well, with their strangely bronze looking claws and teeth, which sometimes turned a simple white around normal people. I also learned to fight the monsters the woman in my dreams had taught me about. At age seven, I had defeated countless hell hounds, the minotaur, and a hydra. I began to realize that the gods were real. As were titans. I figured out I was a son of Poseidon, and that I had been blessed by Rhea and Hestia. And here I am now sitting in a dumpster, my lions at my side, and thinking about my past.
Suddenly I heard a rustling behind me, my lions tensed, and my hand went to my pocket, where Riptide was kept. I drew it out and with a shink three feet of deadly bronze glowed in darkness. I heard the rustling again, a little farther down, in another dumpster. I crept out of mine and landed softly. My lions followed suit. I stalked down the alley, sticking to the shadows, I pressed up against the dumpster then jumped in, sword ready. I was almost taken down by a hammer. A girl about my age, was the source of it. She threw the hammer with velocity and it hit Dynatos in his side.
"Hey!" I yelled at her, "You hurt my lion!" She frowned,
"I thought you were a monster!" She shouted back at me in defense. I glared but handed her back her hammer, and let Riptide return to pen form. I turned to Dynatos and placed my hand on him, summoning flames to heal him. I turned back to the girl. She had dirty blonde curls that stretched halfway down her back. Stormy grey eyes blazed dangerously.
"I'm Percy," I said, offering my hand. She reluctantly shook it,
"Annabeth, are you sure those aren't going to eat us?" She asked pointing to Dynatos and Axi.
"Very sure. Rhea would never let them." She arched an eyebrow,
"Like Rhea as in the titan?"
"The very one. She blessed me. And so did Hestia." She gave me a nod of approval.
"I think I'm a daughter of Athena, but I'm not sure." I studied her closer,
"I'm sure. Your most definitely a daughter of Athena. I'm a son of Poseidon. I'm also really tired. I'm taking a nap," I said, and closing my eyes, I drifted off.
I woke up to Annabeth shaking me,
"The lions are getting restless, it smells funny, I think theres a monster nearby." I close my eyes,
"The lions will take care of it, unless its a hydra, if its a hydra they need me to burn the stumps. Is it a hydra?" She shook her head.
"I'm tired, you should sleep." As I said this I felt her oblige, and we snuggled in together, keeping warm.
This time I woke up to Axi shaking me, telling me we need to get moving. I grumbled but sat up, and woke up Annabeth. She gathered her things, which only turned out to be the hammer and a Cosmic Brownie she managed to steal. Part of my blessing with Hestia was that I could summon home cooked meals, so we split the brownie and I summoned an omelet breakfast. I got up and started walking
"Where are we going?" She asked me.
"I dunno. I'm personally going sightseeing. So far, I've been to Vegas, the Statue of Liberty, Salt Flats, the Four Corners, Yellowstone, a huge amount of presidential things in D.C, the Hershey factory in Hershey, Pennsylvania, the Space Needle, Omaha Zoo, Kansas City Zoo, and I'm currently headed to the Grand Canyon. Do you want to come with us? I don't think Dynatos and Axi will mind." She grinned, nodded, and I took her hand, happy to have a friend. As we walked along we talked and I learned her story, and she learned mine. We sympathized and laughed.
We were currently in Arizona, and were about three hundred miles from the canyon. We covered around twenty miles that day, and eighteen the next. We stole a few bikes and progress increased rapidly after that, some days going fifty miles. Dynatos and Axi never seemed to tire, and always kept pace. I summoned food and things looked well. We were about forty miles out to the canyon and we decided to take a breather day, restocking supplies. I think mortals saw Dynatos and Axi as large cats, because there was never any comments on them. They always accompanied us to shop, for good reason, as we had found more than one monster hiding out in truck stop showers.
We spent lots of time pick pocketing that day, and we were able to buy some packs. In them we had gotten toothbrushes, toothpaste, deodorant which we had both realized was very necessary traveling the way we did, gum, a few new books for Annabeth as we always did when we got some cash, and a drawing pad for me, along with some pencils. I had discovered my love for drawing soon after I left the orphanage, and always tried to get my hands on some materials whenever I could. We played and my lions went in due time, to eat. No mortals were harmed, but the number of antelope around had just diminished. Annabeth and I were hanging out on a park bench when I turned to her,
"You know, I'm really glad I found you." She smiled,
"Me too Percy." We fell asleep soon after that, snuggled together as usual. The next day we pushed ourselves, and made it to the canyon. It had only taken us around two weeks to get there, which was impressive considering we had come from the four corners. We decided not to waste the trip and pick pocketed enough money to get us onto the glass skywalk. It was fun, and we stayed around the area for another week, hiking around the canyon. For our next stop we were doing three in one, first we decided to go to Carlsbad Caverns in New Mexico, then we were cruising Texas. The Alamo was directly on the way to the beach, and we had decided to stop there. Then of course we were going to the beach. It was summer, and we knew it would be warm. We had a vague idea of where we wanted to go after that, and after that, but we tried to focus on the present.
Suddenly a large blast of fire came at me and Annabeth who had been sitting next to me, and singed my hair. The lions were out hunting and that left us with a silver dagger (the lions had warned me about Lycaon and his pack) Riptide, a hammer, all of my powers, and whatever amazing plan I knew Annabeth would come up with. It got ready to breathe fire again, and Annabeth quickly grabbed my arm and started to pull me into the canyon. We ran together and she started shouting instructions to me.
"We'll lose it in the canyon, I'll come back around and whop it on its head with my hammer, then you come while its still dazed, slice the head off, and burn the stump. Got it?" I nodded, and we ran. Up and down twisting and turning. We left pieces of gum as a trail, knowing the hydra wouldn't be smart enough to follow it.
I soon heard a roar below us. Annabeth catapulted off of the ledge she was on and started playing the most dangerous game of Whack-A-Mole ever. I hopped down and started slicing and burning. In a few minutes the hydra was reduced to dust.
"Nice work Wise Girl." I told her, panting and grinning.
"You to Seaweed Brain." Just then the lions showed up, claws out and teeth bared. Annabeth and I fell on the ground laughing. When we both managed to get up she commented,
"We got it covered." And that made us roll again. The lions rolled their eyes. I turned to Annabeth,
"We should probably be going. We're attracting monsters." She punched me on the shoulder playfully,
"It's not me, it's you." I put a hand over my heart.
"Miss Chase, are you- breaking up with me?" In response she shoved me, and I could feel the lions thinking there laughter to me.
"Oh shut up you two." I grumbled. Annabeth seemed to get who I was talking to, and shrugged. She went into the gift shop and came out with a map. She zoned out and started doing calculations. She looked up from her work.
"We are currently 684 miles from the caverns. If we can manage sixty miles a day on the bikes, then we can get there in roughly eleven days if we don't take any rest days." I grinned,
"Sounds like a plan. You guys up for it?" I asked, looking at my lions. I got two roars in response. I laughed,
"Lets go then!"
A/N: 1,588 words long. That how long this chapter is. I hope you all enjoyed that. For a second I bet you guys thought I wouldn't add their nicknames. *insert troll face* I am really loving all of the cutesey little Percabeth. I have a plan for this story, I promise they will not be wandering around going sightseeing like bosses forever, no matter how much fun it is to write them doing that. You guys are probably going to grill me on how children can't go that far but seriously, they're half-bloods. Plus they've been hiking around the GRAND CANYON for a week. Their leg muscle game is strong. If you haven't noticed Dynatos and Axi are not normal lions. They are perfectly fine going that far. Now do not question my logic.
