The Lion Boy Part 11
Recap: "You weren't supposed to get out of there!" She screeched. Percy brought Riptide a little closer, and her eyes widened in fear. Percy drew back his sword to send her to Tartarus when she knocked him to the side, and disappeared with another bright flash of light. Percy, ignoring the shocked campers, turned to me and said
"Annabeth." Then he collapsed.

Annabeth POV
My eyes widened as I ran to him.
"Percy." I whispered as I grabbed his arm. He was dead weight, but I lugged him up to his feet and threw him over my shoulder. The campers stared at me.
"Move, he just collapsed you idiots!" Thalia shouted as I moved through camp to get him to the infirmary. Luke came up behind me and helped me support his unconscious body.
Entering the infirmary, I dropped him to the ground. Will Solace, a son of Apollo, was there at the moment.
"Fix him." I growled. There was the whole feline thing again. He gulped nervously and maneuvered him into an empty cot. He immediately began to check vitals as well as feeding him ambrosia and nectar. After roughly five minutes of doing this he looked back up at me, a thin bead of sweat across his forehead. Those Apollo didn't take their healing lightly, and they sure as heck shouldn't with Percy's life on the line.
"He'll live, and should be awake soon. He just tired himself out. I've been here all night but I heard the commotion. Is there any chance this is Percy, if so, what did the he do to himself? With the amount of power he exerted he could have easily creamed any minor god, and a few Olympians. He should probably be dead actually, burnt up from the fight. As it turns out, he's perfectly fine, just a bit tired. He's no joke." I opened my mouth to explain.
"Hestia and Rhea came to us saying Percy was still alive, and that they had a plan to save him. We couldn't tell anybody, but we knew it would take place tonight. While we were out tonight, Eris, the goddess of Discord showed up to try and stop us. Rhea protected our minds, and the six of us physically fought her. Percy came during the fight, saw Dynatos hurt, and flipped. He nearly expelled her essence to Tartarus, but she flashed out. He passed out after the fight, and for good reason. He certainly didn't hold back." I finished quickly. Will raised an eyebrow.
"The Six of you?"
"Thalia, Luke, Percy, Dynatos, Axi, and I."
He nodded curtly, accepting my explanation, and returned to treating Percy.
"You might want to take a seat." A voice said from the corner, which was pulsing softly with a soft white light. Rhea. We did as she said, not counting Will, who was being quite a good doctor. Especially for somebody our age.
"I suppose you're all wondering how Hestia and I worked that spell out." Luke nodded.
"It seemed complicated." He commented. She smiled at him, and started to explain.
"It starts with how he almost died, and would've, had he not been Hestia and I's champion. As Hades was attempting to kill him, we had to tie something from his domain to the spell. Hence the solid gold necklace you were gifted. He had to be trapped in that object, his soul I mean. That would be why it was so important you kept the necklace close to you. Because the relation between Hades and Poseidon is so strong, a characteristic of Poseidon appeared on the necklace. The shell pendant. That is what truly contained him." She stopped to be sure we were with her so far. Will was casually leaning towards us, not bothering to hide the fact that he was eavesdropping.Thalia gestured for Rhea to continue, and she obeyed.
"You understood why the spell had to finish itself tonight, the power of the moon and the timing had to be perfect. Artemis's domain is powerful tonight. I wonder if she knows what she helped do." Rhea mused, but picked up with the story again.
"The lake drained to be ready for the spell as well. Then comes how the spell had to be executed. By being prepared to rescue Percy, the lake would only fill under water he had touched. For his touch to be strong enough, it needed to be salt water, his natural element. The lake would take it, and evaporate the salt." Will interrupted her in her explanation, somehow managing to be polite even in doing that. Gods.
"Not to be rude Mother Rhea, but- " Now it was Rhea's turn to interrupt.
"It's Rhea to you dear, you're helping my champion, you get to address me casually." Will smiled, and continued.
"Alright... Rhea. How were you and Lady Hestia able to control the water with your spell, isn't that Poseidon's domain?" She chuckled at this.
"I'm his mother child, I can do simple things like that." Will blushed a little at this, but nodded, allowing her to continue.
"We also needed a sacrifice from those he almost died trying to save, in return for his deed. That's why I cut you three. Speaking of that, are you okay? I'm terribly sorry you had to be hurt." She gently grabbed each of our arms in turn, examining and healing the cuts.
"After you dumped the water in the lake, and your blood was put in- that sounds so gruesome -the spell just needed one last thing to activate. Percy's soul, and an insult to Hades. When the shell landed in your sacrifice, it burned away the gold, as your caring towards Percy overpowered his already weakened attempt at his life. When the shell started to dissolve, Percy's soul was being let out, and a physical form for him was being recreated. As more of Percy was being rescued, the lake refilled faster and faster. He rose to the top as Annabeth saw, and the rest you saw." She concluded elegantly, her hands coming to rest in her lap. Right on cue, I heard a groan from the bed. Percy was awake.

Percy POV Memory
I felt myself falling, falling, falling. I landed in feathers. Fluffy and white they choked me, suffocating me. I attempted to crawl out, but it just landed me farther down. I felt a hand pull me out, gently. I landed on solid ground this time, and turned around to see who the hand belonged to, but it was gone. I looked around. I was on a one way stretch of highway, leading far into an evergreen forest, no traces of civilization in sight. The temperate, but humid, air compressed me, wrapping around my body like a blanket. It was a bit uncomfortable, but not painful. I glanced at my arm, and noticed that it had a golden sheen to it. It almost sparkled. I looked out at the horizon, and began to move my feet, figuring I had to end up somewhere eventually. As I walked a woman appeared next to me.
She was willowy, with fair skin contrasting the dark green of the trees. Dark brown hair framed a pale heart shaped face that had two hazel orbs staring out of it. Thin lips, the color of the flesh on a strawberry pulled themselves into a kind smile. A light smatter of features played along high cheek bones. I looked down, and saw her feet bore no shoes, and that her skin looked as clear as the sky on a summers day. A sunset orange summer dress fell to her knees, and a big floppy tan colored gardeners hat sat upon her head. Her form flickered in and out of existence occasionally, and she looked to be in her mid thirties. She opened her mouth,
"Hello young one." Her voice had a bittersweet ring to it, like a kind somebody who had been treated badly, and nobody would listen to or help them.
"Hello." I said stopping, and staring at the sky. It seemed so far away.
"Who are you?" I asked. Everything was so confusing. I remembered running from Hades, and then I was in the feathers.
"I'm Melinoe dear, goddess of ghosts." I frowned.
"Does this mean I'm dead? I would've thought Hades would've thrown me into the Fields of Punishment." She gave a tinkling laugh that bounced through the trees.
"No child, simply lost. Part of having the domain of ghosts, is handling lost souls. You happen to be one of them at the moment."
"Why do you sound so melancholy? Have I been disrespectful?" I wondered aloud. She gave a gentle smile.
"No. I've just seen a lot, and nobody in particular understands. They're all scared of me because I am the goddess of ghosts."
"Oh." I frowned again.
"I'll understand." I told her truthfully. She looked at me questioningly, but took my hand. Not in a romantic way of course, just like a mother would a child.
"Alright. I suppose I'll tell you then."
---
We had been walking for a while now, Melinoe and I had talked quite a bit. We were now at the edge of the forest, just down the hill was a wood cabin.
"Our time is up now. Anytime you are in the Underworld, or in a tight spot, just call me okay. I'll come." She said, walking me to the cabin, and stopping on the front porch. I turned to her,
"Does this mean I have your blessing now? And do I have to go?" I asked confused.
"Yes you have to go Percy, your friends and patrons are waiting." I hugged her, and pulled back with the world going hazy around me.
"You didn't answer my other question!" I shouted frantically as my view got hazy. The last thing I heard before the forest faded from my sight was,
"You don't want my blessing Percy."
