Chapter Five- H00CH (T)

Author's Note: Thanks for stopping by again! Before you keep reading to the next part I wanted to give a shout out to B. It's very rare you meet truly good humans in the world and you're one of them. Thanks for letting me use you and Hooch in the story. Also now that we all know Torin I'll be jumping back between His and Hedda's POV and will indicate it with a (T) or (H). Ok now on with the story.

I leave the classroom feeling slightly defeated but more so annoyed at Hedda. Who does she think she is? I think as her words come back to my mind "So I've actually already been working on my thesis so if we could just stick to what I've already been doing, I think that would be most beneficial." I walk out of the lecture hall and into the quad, it's early afternoon and the day is starting to heat up. Maybe I'll use the outdoor pool today. I walk across the quad and notice how many people are out, more specifically how many people soulmates are out. Must be nice. As I walk past them and try not to notice the pang in my chest, it doesn't work.

I round the corner and head down engineer row. The buildings here one storied and painted black with black tin roofing, compared to the lavish old structures in the quad it looks sleek and modern. Even though the engineers don't care very much for the aesthetics and care more for functionality. The black exterior helps to keep the insides cool and when dealing with machinery that's important. I walked up to the last building on the right and head down the alleyway to the side door that has a geometric snail engraved in it.

As I approach the snail changes from blending in with the door to a contrasting almost white silver color as the light bounces against it. Holding my palm up to the door I count to ten as the door registers my finger prints and slides into wall. It's dark, illuminated only by a green light that runs the length of the staircase but I don't need it I've already remembered that there's eighteen steps. I enter the workshop and pause at the bottom of the stiars letting my eyes adjust to the change of lighting, it's still dark but low hanging lights litter the ceiling. That doesn't matter though because I head to the biggest source of light coming from four transparent monitors stacked on top of eachother in a grid pattern. Through the screens I can see Blaine's back hunched over a long table where there's a human size object covered by a sheet that lays ontop.

"Hey man," I greet him as I put my backpack on the table facing the computers and open it to grab my laptop.

"Sup," Blaine called over his shoulder and turned back to his work, "Just finishing up some final touches....for now." He added and I could hear the smile in his voice. Blaine was one of those guys that never seemed to take anything too seriously and everyone liked to be around him. Too bad it's like pulling teeth to get him to leave his cave.

"You know there's a sun and people outside, you would know that if you ever left." I rounded to the table where Blaine was pulling the sheet over whatever he was working on.

"I haven't seen the sun in years and I'm not sure I know what people are, but both of those things sound awful." He looked up at me. Blaine was shorter than most guys but what he lacked in height he made up for in strength. He has short brown hair and brown eyes and had a stocky build about him. Fun size as he would call it.

"Anyways" I rolled my eyes and opened my laptop, "Are you going to show me what you've been building that I had to create a learn as you go algorithm for?" I inquired while trying to pull back the sheet but Blaine shot out his hand to stop me.

"Excuse me, but let the master reveal his work." I looked down and noticed the gray line that ran up his arm.

"Sorry", I put my hand up and stared pointedly at him.

"May I present the Helpful. Zero. Zero. Computerized. Humanoid.Or as I call him Hooch." and with that Blaine pulled back the sheet to reveal the clunkiest robot I've ever seen. The head was rounded like an football helmet used in the before. It had square shoulders and long three pointed arms that ended in claws. The torso tapered down to a single wheel at the bottom. The whole thing was held together with thick welded lines and none of the metal matched.

"Well....it's uhh, something." I stammered while trying to hold back a laugh. I knew with Blaine that he cared more for the function of equipment than the appearance but this was a new standard, even for him.

"Whoa, easy there." He crossed his arms over his chest.

"I'm just saying, this is. Okay was this the best that you could do?" I pushed the head of Hooch to the side and plugged in my cable to start the upload, I noticed that the same snail that was on the door was engraved here next to the name H00CH.

"Just hold all comments until you're done uploading that program, then let's see what you have to say then." Blaine turned around and walked over to the computer screens and picked up a keyboard. "By the way wasn't today like your first combo class day or something."

"You mean blending with the psychology guys, yeah that was today. I'm surprised you even know what day it is, let alone the hour." I chuckled under my breath as I start uploading my program to Hooch. I set down my laptop, checking one last time to make sure that everything is running. I walk over to where Blaine is still typing away and plop down in the stray chair at the desk.

"So your partner. Are they cool?" He looks at me out of the corner of his eye and goes back to whatever his next invention will be. I hope it at least look better than Hooch.

"Kinda, she was, not thrilled to be partnered up." I scratch the back of my head, I don't really know Hedda and our first interaction didn't exactly leave me with the warm and fuzzies.

"What you're telling me is that she's a bitch." Blaine states blankly. "Or she didn't want to be with you because she thought her soulmate would get all jealous of her working closely to another dude."

"Yeah kinda." I signed.

"Woof", Blaine retorted while pausing his typing, causing silence to fall over the workshop.

"You know, I didn't really pay attention. I don't know if she has a soulmate." I stand up and head back over to check the progress on Hooch. I'll have to remember to look next time. Lucky for us, thanks to the Professor there would be plenty of opportunities to find out.

"Yeah I doubt that, you're the only person I know who hasn't been saddled up with someone yet." He calls out while setting down the keyboard and walks towards me.

"I'm the only person you know." I scoff while typing on my laptop and finish the upload. I look up just in time to catch Blaine flipping me the bird. "Anyways, Hooch should be ready to power up now." I'm changing the subject because as much as I want to believe that I don't have a soulmate or maybe she's younger than me, I know it's not true.

"Fuck yeah dude." Blaine reaches over and presses a button on the back of Hooch's helmet head. I watch as the screen for his sensors glows blue in pulses. "By the way is your mom and dad making you go to that line party before winter break?"

I look up at him and press my lips together before answering. "Yeah, they are." And before he can come in with a comment about it being another disappointment I change the subject. "Anyways remember that I uploaded a very basic learn as you go algorithm so while Hooch will know some things, it's gonna take a while before he learns all of your voice commands."

The blue screen stopped pulsing and the robot sat up causing both of us to jump back slightly. We looked at each other over the table and then looked at Hooch.

"Hello, I am Hooch. How can I help?" A peppy animatronic voice filled the air.

"Fuck yeah." Blaine smiled looking at Hooch as he grabbed the wheel and pulled the bot to the edge of the table, then pulled it by the shoulders till Hooch's bottom half clicked into place allowing it to balance on its' single wheel.

I went over to where my backpack was and stuffed my computer inside. Zipping it up I threw it over my shoulder and started to make my way out of the workshop and to my next class.

"Hey thanks man." Blaine called out while he was looking over Hooch.

"Not a problem, have fun with your new partner." I said over my shoulder while I reached the bottom of the staircase. Maybe I should have some fun with mine. I thought as I heard the rolling sound of Hooch, followed then the sound of metal clashing against each other and falling onto the concrete floor.

"God damnit Hooch." I heard Blaine curse as the sound of him placing whatever had fallen onto one of the wheeled trays followed me up the stairs. When I reached the door I pushed against the snail and it slid to the side, hiding into the wall as I stepped out into sun.

*Author's Note: Thanks for reading! Ahh, I have so many ideas for future H00CH and Blaine interactions. I hope you guys loved these new charaters. Thoughts? Also please feel free to vote or comment. -SP.
