Chapter 8:

Scrooge raced outside the manor as fast as his old legs could take him, holding a look of worry and fear on over face.

"This better not be some sort of joke Fenton!" Scrooge yelled, arms pumping as fast as he could to reach the rocket that might possibly bring his niece home.

"It no joke Mr McDuck! The spear is ready for take off!" Fenton urged, trying to keep up with the surprising fast old man.

The kids all shared concerned yet excited looks on their faces.  Was this really happening? No......no it couldn't be.........there's no way......is there?

Finally, reaching the back door, Scrooge froze. One step outside and he could save his niece, one step outside and.........there was no turning back.

"Uncle Scrooge?" Louie questioned, stepping forward, looking at his great uncle with concern but yet reassurance.

"It's going to be okay..." Huey added, copying his younger brothers moves and stepping forward.

Huey looked back at Dewey in disbelief. Him of all people would've stepped forward by now.

"Dewey?" Huey questioned, looking back at his younger brother.

"Uhhh y-yeah...right..." Dewey stepped forward nervously, clearing his throat. "I-It'll be okay..." He stuttered.

"Uncle Scrooge...mum is strong...if she survived for ten years then she can survive for just a little longer!" Louie began, to everyone's surprise, acting quite.........responsible......wow.

"She knows we're coming for her and she will keep fighting and fighting to reach us...she won't stop trying until we're in her arms again and she's in ours! Mom needs help and it's up to us to help her! We can do this! Remember.........we're sharper than the sharpies, smarter than the smarties and......" Louie paused for a moment, allowing Scrooge to finish off his sentence.

"And tougher than the toughies..." He turned around and faced Louie, giving him a warm smile and finally opening the door where everyone's worst fear lied......

Everyone's breathe hitched in their throats as there pupils shrunk and their eyes grew wide.

Wow.

The Spear of Selene.

A sudden burst of flashbacks hit Scrooge......hard. That day he lost her......he lost everything......

"This is all your fault, Scrooge!"

He heard Donald's raspy voice echoed through his mind.

Scrooge looked down at the kids, who looked just as shocked as he did, their eyes were glued to the rocket.

Looking back up at the rocket he could hear his nieces voice cry out in pain.

"Uncle Scrooge!"

It sounded the exact same as when he lost her......to the cosmic storm...for years he grumbled along in his life thinking that she was.........having hope she was alive but.........that hope had being crushed by stupid statistics that weren't even right!

His poor niece had been out there for 10 years now! Struggling to survive, suffering every second of everyday whilst he's been living it up in the mansion. Why? Why couldn't he have just kept trying? Why couldn't he have just gone up there himself and looked for her? Why did he even build the spear of Selene in the first place?! Why was he so stupid?!

'This is all my fault.'

Scrooge had repeatedly been telling himself those words for years......and he had never meant it more than he does now.

"Mr......McDuck?" Fenton hesitated.

Scrooge walked straight past the intern and up in front of the giant beast. It really was big up close. He remembered his niece telling him that before it was even built.

All was silent as the wind blew through the trees and the birds sang their beautiful songs.

"Just as ai remember it." Scrooge stated quietly, half smiling as he gazed upon the fearsome rocket, it's metal shining amongst the sunlight.

The triplets and Webby slowly walked up behind Scrooge, still in shock.

All fell silent as eyes were glued to the machine that almost killed a great duck.........that almost killed Della Duck.........the Della Duck.

Finally, Scrooge broke the silence giving a sigh as a wave or serious and determination washed over him. "How far are we from lift off?" He spoke sternly.

"Ready when you are, sir." Gyro responded, walking up behind Fenton and staring at Scrooge, seeing the determination in his eyes made Gyro realise that getting Della back......means the world to him.

Gyro presented forth seven space suits, each colour coded to fit them best. One pink, two blue, two reds one green and one brown.

"What's this?" Scrooge questioned, raising an eyebrow as he eyed the seven suits.

"Well obviously you're going to need space suits, they're designed to fit each and every one of you and~" Gyro was cut off by a very stubborn Scrooge.

"The kids won't be taggin' along on this adventure." He spoke as he took the red adult sized space suit and began walking back towards the door he came out of.

"What?!" The kids yelled in unison.

"Uncle Scrooge you've got to be kidding me!" Dewey screamed, throwing his arms in the air.

"She's our mom!" Louie responded, clenching his fists.

Webby remained silent......she still had doubts of whether or not she had a right to speak......especially in a situation like this. The last time she tried to intervene she was told she wasn't family......so she remained silent, fiddling with her hands and keeping her eyes focused on the ground below her.

Huey took a deep breathe as he approached Scrooge with caution, in case he were to yell at him before he could even speak. "Uncle Scrooge just a day ago you were saying we're all in this together. That we would find her together. That we would bring her home......together."

Scrooge took a deep breathe and turned to face the oldest triplet. Placing a gentle hand on his shoulder he gave him and his brothers a reassuring look. "You're very brave. All of ye and your mother would be so proud of ye but......I have already lost ye Della, I can't lose you too." He spoke softly, turning around and heading back inside, however, being stopped my another determined duck in a sailor outfit.

"No one's going anywhere without me." Donald stormed through the doors and snatched an adult blue space suit out of Gyros hands.

"Donald, like I told the kids I~" Scrooge was the one being cut off this time as the stubbornness had seemed to spread like a wild disease.

"But nothing Uncle Scrooge! I'm not a kid anymore! She's my twin sister and I will be going with you to save her!" A moment of silence slowly slithered by as Scrooge and Donald wrestled with their eyes until finally, a winner came upon them.

Scrooge grumbled under his breathed as he walked back in the house, defeated. "Don't say I didn't warn ye!" He shouted as he went to get changed for what might just be the last time.

"Uncle Donald you understand, don't you?" Huey questioned, looking up at his uncle with great desperation in his eyes.

"We have to go too." Dewey spoke softly, the same desperation and fear for his family in his eyes.

"Sorry kids, but Uncle Scrooge is right." Donald spoke softly as he leaned down on one knee, giving the kids a reassuring smile. "It's not safe for you to be up there with us. Don't worry we'll bring your mom home......I promise." He stood back up and shared a soft smile with the kids before watching them waddle back inside the mansion.

Donald stared up at the dark, weary sky.

"I'm coming Della."
