Prologue

The train pulled into the station and Percie picked at her jeans, waiting for the woman beside her to bring her to whoever wanted her...For now at least. The woman smiled at her.

"The Frays are nice people and might be willing to keep you for a long time," She said, trying to make her seem happy about this. Of course, she realised this tactic won't work. "If they don't like you, you'll be back in the system and we both know what that's like," So, Percie put on the biggest smile she could manage and followed the woman inside the station, her suitcase pink and flowery...The exact opposite of her. The woman waved at someone and Percie followed her wave to see a man in at least his thirties. "Samuel!" The man made his way over and smiled at them. "Samuel, this is Priscilla James." Percie cleared her throat, looking at her feet.

"I prefer Percie." She mumbled, feeling the woman shooting daggers at her and Samuel offered her warm smile.

"Then, hello Percie. You can call me Sam," He looked at the woman with a slightly less warm smile. "Thank you, Daisy. Your daughter's about the same age, right? Maybe the two of them could be friends?" Daisy gave a tight lipped nod and hurried off. "I'm guessing she told you to be on your best behaviour?" Percie nodded and Sam took her suitcase from her gently. "Well, maybe to just spite her, me and my brother can adopt you." She frowned, remembering her brief conversation with Daisy.

"She told me you had a sister called Rebecca...Oh," Percie trailed off, realising exactly what happened. "I can't wait to meet your brother...?" Sam smiled and started walking away.

"Raymond. I think he'll like you," Percie smiled at the back of his head before hurrying to catch up. "Just so you know, we have a nephew already living with us so if we do actually decide to keep you, it's because of how you two behave with each other, not just out of spite." She nodded, biting back a smile.

"I'm sure we'll be friends," She dodged a boy with hair that could've been mistaken for sunlight in certain light, helping someone along. "Sorry!" She called over her shoulder as they left the station and she looked around at where she'd be living...Possibly home.
