Chapter 7

Well that was probably not what you expected. I know I didn't expect it. I wasn't one for saving people from things. Unless it could kill people and make me look like a maniac, then no. I'm a villain, but I'm no monster. The only person I want six feet deep is Helix Double, but other than that, I get civilians out of my way. I was really planning on going my own way. Not like I've seen stuff like this a hundred times before. I've seen purses stolen, prostitutes being sold off, gang beatings. The city at noon and night is probably one of the worst places to be. But I don't know why I decided to save her. How dare I, right? My first thought should have been to save her, probably to save her... faster. I could have been a hero. Save her from that experience that changed her life forever, and maybe I could redeem my sins. Start a new life saving people. I didn't though. She may think I am a hero, but I let it happen for a short bit before I stepped in. I am no hero. I am NO hero. I am NO HERO. But I did save her...

Maybe it was because she was good looking. I have a thing for cute girls, and they all love a heroic man. Maybe it was because I just felt heroic for a moment. For a small moment I may have understood why heroes want to be heroes. I think it was most likely that she was a lot like me mum and sis. Yes I didn't know Gabby that well, but she reminded me of them. My mum was a gymnast and even went to the Olympics for a year. She was fierce and independant, no one scared her. My sister was always trying to be a friend to everyone, even the meanest of people. She saw the good and ignored the bad, all because she thought she could change people. I lost my family, and knowing these men, once they finished getting all the pleasure they wanted from Gabby, they would dispose of her, or sell her to some pimp. I would not let her family loose her like I lost my family. Not a nice life to live.

Let me fill in the gaps Gabby can't. I was on my way to the orphanage. I had went to a pizza joint, bought a nice huge pizza. I though I would treat the kids to something nice, I had not gotten them a lot of good food recently, but money had been tight. I needed to talk to my old friend Miss. Elder anyway. I was headed there when I saw Gabby.

"Let's see, three men, one helpless girl... I can attack from that roof..." I thought, putting down the pizza. I went into a tight alley, jumped from one wall to the next (like Mario wall jumping), and made it to the top. I stood near the ledge of the roof, looking down on the three men.

"First man, mid-thirties. Looks like a gun in his left pocket. Probably a knife up his sleeve. Seems to be the alpha of this group. Second man, slightly older. Maybe forty. Knife scabbard attached to his leg with a knife. Third man; in his late twenties. Seems like the lookout. No noticeable weapon or weapons visible. Well, maybe no weapon..." I thought, and leaned forward slightly. I nearly lost balance, and kicked a stone off the roof, and I watched it in slow motion as it hit the ground.

"What was that?" the lookout said.

"SHIT. My cover has been blown," I thought.

"I don't know, go check it out Jonny," the alpha said.

"Yea boss," Jonny said, and started climbing up the fire escape. Before he arrived, I had already jumped from the roof I was on to the roof across from it.

"Nothing up here boss," Jonny said.

"Time to take out the trash," I thought. Man, what is wrong with me. Why would I think of a cheesy quip like that?

"Who are you?" Jonny said seeing me.

"Shit shit shit," I thought. I jumped quickly across.

"There is someone up here," Jonny said.

"Watch out...!" the second man yelled as I tackled Jonny to the roof. I then punched him hard and threw him aside, hoping he was knocked out.

"Boss, get your gun out, we have company," the second man said. I jumped down from the building and swung into an empty alley.

"Where did he go?" the boss asked, cocking his gun.

"He's over here!" I heard someone say from behind me. I turned around and saw Jonny.

"DAMN IT!" I exclaimed. He must have climbed down from when I threw him aside? Honestly not sure how he got behind me.

"Now we got you mate," the second man said, and he pulled out his knife. Now they all had weapons, all except for Jonny, as I expected.

"Three against one? Now how is that fair?" I said.

"What is fair is what I deem fair," the boss said. The second man took a jab at me.

"You want to be careful. You should see the damage one of those can do," I said. He took another quick jab at me. It was quick and neat, and pricked my shoulder.

"I take it that you have had some experience with that blade. It seems that the blade you wield has killed many," I said. He came toward me, the point at my neck now.

"Yes it has," he said, digging the point into my throat and drawing a drop of blood.

"Woah woah woah fellas, we can talk about this," I said.

"You attacked us first," Jonny said.

"True," I said. I then did a spin kick knocking him to the ground. I then threw two kicks at the boss's arms, knocking the gun out of his hands, where it landed by my feet.

"God damn it," the boss sweared, holding his arms. I then pulled out my chain knives, grabbed the knife dude by the leg, and like I did with Helix, swung him around, but I kept swinging him in circles, using him to knock the other two down. I then released him, and he flew up and away. I then grabbed Jonny, punched him in the face a few times, and threw him in a trash can.

"Where did George go? Where the hell did George go!?!" The boss said, standing back up.

"On top of a building... I think. He had a good trajectory," I said.

"AHHHHH!" Jonny said, coming out of the trash can and jumped onto me to attack me.

"God damn you, don't you give up?!?" I said, throwing him off my back. The boss took his knife out and went to attack me with it. I kicked it out his hand, and it flew into Jonny's shoulder, and he fell to the ground screaming.

"I got you boss," I heard George say, and I saw him pointing the boss's gun at me.

"Okay, you should be near death. How'd you even get here?" I asked, exasperated.

"ONE OF MY FUCKING ARMS ARE BROKEN, ALONG WITH ONE OF MY LEGS!" George screamed at me.

"Shouldn't have told me that," I said, and threw a knife at the leg he was dragging.

"Damn you bitch!" he said, dropping the gun. I then grabbed the gun from the ground, and pointed it at George and Jonny.

"Run now, and maybe I'll spare your pathetic lives," I said. They gave me a look, and got in a defensive position. I shot a round into each of their shoulders.

"RUN! GET OUT OF HERE!" I yelled, and Jonny and George ran off, limping away, and holding their wounds.

"God damn it where did you two go? Who the hell are you?" The boss asked me.

"I'm Knifeslinger," I said, and kicked him in the face, a few times just for good measure. He was knocked out cold. I went over to Gabby, lying on the ground.

"It's going to be okay lady," I said while picking her up. I then went over to the pizza I set down, and secured it to my back. Hopefully the kids wouldn't mind if it was a little smushed. You know what happens from there. I brought her to the orphanage. She finally blacked out. Rest sweet thing. Rest. I sat her down on the orphanage floor, and went over to Miss. Elder.

"I need a favor from you," I said.

"Sit so I can see you boy," She said. I decided to not tell her that she was blind, so I sat.

"I'm sitting ma'am. Now, as I was saying, I need you to make a call to the school I'm enrolled in," I told her.

"I can do that for you. Repay you for your kindness Golem," she replied.

"Stop calling me that. Last week it was Chupacabra, and the week before I was an Atlantean," I said.

"Quiet! You jabber interrupts my sight," she said.

"Fine. Look, here is the school's number in braille. Just say that your calling for the Principal, and you're the Orphanage director for Leonard Arthurson," I said, handing her the school's information.

"You'll owe me one Golem," she said.

"I get you food and keep the inspectors away from taking these children back to their abusive families. Consider it one of the many favors you owe me," I said.

"I hear your words like the wind, but I am a mighty mountain," Miss. Elder said, and fell asleep.

"Okay then... Well, at least I can have that bit all covered up. Now I need to get Gabby a ride home," I thought. I then pulled out my cell phone, scrolled through my contacts, and clicked on one.

"Hey Chuck... I'm fine... Yes... Uh huh... Look, I need you and your cab... Yes... I have a contact I need you to deliver to wherever she needs to go to... No it is not Marie... Okay... Okay... Hey, don't forget who you are talking to, I can put you back in jail as fast as I got you out... Sorry, I know... Tell the wife I said hi... okay... okay... Nice talking again bud... yea, you stay out of trouble... Okay, got to go... Yes... Yes... Okay... Alright, goodbye," I said and hung up. I got to say, it is nice having a web of contacts who owe me favors and shit. Most of my contacts I've gotten from Marie, or where I've had to go on a mission for Marie and I just happen to earn a contact. I looked over at the kids, who were talking to Gabby. Looks like I better save her before they get too crazy.

"Leave the poor girl alone, come, I brought food for all of you," I said.
