Chapter 5
"Teachers, sorry to interrupt your classes but we need a student to report to the office. Mr. Leonard Arthurson, please report to the office, Mr. Leonard Arthurson," I heard the intercom say, calling me out.
"Great, thanks to my loud mouth and my defensive actions, I have to get an earful from the principal," I thought, then I sighed, and got out of the classroom I was in, and went to the office. In the office, there was Mr. Melsbach in an argument with a female person that I guessed was the principal.
"THAT ISN'T ENOUGH EVIDENCE?!?! Mrs. Ambrosone, this is not the first time that your son Tristen has broken school rules! AND it is not the first time he has attacked a student for chatting with Miss. Estrella!" Mr. Melsbach said exasperated and red in the face.
"Now is not the time Vincent, we can discuss this later," Mrs. Ambrosone said.
"Fine, fine! My name isn't Vincent, it is Vinzenz! You Americans and butchering names! Pest auf Sie!" he muttered angrily, and stomped out of the room.
"Sorry about that Leonard. He never was a big fan of my son. Now, please, come with me to my office," she said, and walked off.
"Today is just not my day, is it?" I thought to myself. I followed her to her office. She had a decent sized office, nicely decorated, chill atmosphere. She had a few pictures on her walls of her and her family. Even that girl Gabby was in a few of them. There was a good handful of pictures with Tristen and Gabby together, Tristen with a smug smile, and Gabby with a fake, almost uncomfortable smile.
"Please, sit down Leonard," she told me indicating toward a chair, which I sat in.
"Before we start, I just wanted to say that I didn't know Tristen was your son, and if I knew, I probably wouldn't have done what I did," I told her. Well that was one huge lie, because as smug as that bastard was, I would do it twenty times more.
"Thank you for that, though it was unnecessary. Please, tell me what happened from the top," she said.
"Well, I was having a casual conversation with his girlfriend, not knowing she was his girlfriend. She had told me that I could come to her for help. After she left, I was approached by Tristen, being over protective of his girlfriend. He threatened me, and because I felt intimidated, I tried to back away. When he wouldn't let me, I hit him," I said. So what if I lied? I was saving Tristen's ass. Keep your friends close and enemies closer. I was not one bit intimidated, and I know I didn't hit him first.
"Thank you for telling the truth. You will receive punishment, and I'll make sure to call your parents and tell them what happened. Before you leave school today, come to my office and I'll tell you what is going to happen as of punishment. Take this note to your teacher explaining your tardiness, and have a nice day," Mrs. Ambrosone said, and wrote me a note. She handed it to me, ushered me out of her office, and shut the door.
"How polite," I thought sarcastically, then walked out of the office. The rest of the day from that moment on was pretty uneventful. I went through my classes without any event, and avoided Tristen at any time I could. Finally, the last bell rang. I think Helix fractured some of my bones during our fight, because I was miserably sore for the whole day, practically limping at some points. It'll heal in the next few days. Hopefully. I went to my locker to put all the books and other items that I got from my classes, when Marie walked up to me.
"Hi babe, give me a kiss," she said, then started making out with me.
"What the fuck are you doing!?! You said I wouldn't notice you!" I exclaimed, shoving her off of me.
"Lower your voice!! Sorry, I'm trying to get this dude to stop flirting with me. Keeps on looking at my ass and cleavage," She whispered to me, nodding behind her, where low and behold, Tristen was standing with his buddies who were making wolf calls and whistling. Tristen was looking me dead in the eyes, with pure and upmost hatred.
"Don't tell me it is Tristen," I said, then thought, "I will just never get on this dude's good side, will I? Also, he is very unfaithful in my opinion if it is him. Please be one of his buddies, please be one of his buddies..."
"Why, how did you know? It is him," she whispered, gave me another kiss, then said louder, "See you later babe!" She then winked and walked off. I shook my head, staring daggers into the back of her head. Tristen and his cronies then walked off, but not without one last dirty look from Tristen.
"I am so not going to survive in this school long, will I?" I thought. I then gathered my items, and headed toward the office.
"Hey, Leonard, may I have a word with you?" I heard Gabby say.
"God, would you mind not making my life a living hell? For five minutes? I just want to go home," I thought, looking up at the sky. I then turned toward Gabby.
"What's up?" I asked, putting on a fake smile.
"I just wanted to apologize for Tristen's behavior. I always forget that he is a little over protective," she said.
"A little!? Understatement of the year. I accept your apology. Now I should probably leave before your boyfriend wants to pick another fight with me," I said, and started to walk off.
"Boyfriend? He is NOT my boyfriend! Our families have been friends for a while so I've gotten to know him, but he isn't, and will never be, my boyfriend," she stated, following me.
"Why isn't that a cliché? Boy thinks he owns a girl that he has been friends with because of the friendship of their family. God, is this your idea of a joke? Some huge sitcom of my life?" I thought to myself.
"So anyway, I am so sorry. I'll talk to him and make sure he doesn't mess with you," she said. I stopped in my tracks, and she nearly tripped trying to stop.
"Whatever you do, do not, I repeat, do NOT do that. That will just make him target me even more. I could explain how that would happen, but I don't have the time," I said.
"Oh...?! Okay then.... I'm really sorry though. Are you sure there isn't anything I could do for you? Anything at all? You are probably hurting from that fight, maybe some ice?" she said with concern. She was rather sweet and some ice would have been nice, but I had to reject.
"Look, there is one thing you can do for me. This is going to sound harsh, so I apologize ahead of time. I need you to never talk to me in public. Never. Period. You talking to me gets him on my back, and the last thing I need is to have to deal with that drama," I said.
"Okay then," she said, then took out a slip of paper, and wrote on it.
"What are you doing?" I asked.
"I can't talk to you in public, so I am giving you my number and address. Now we can talk at any time, and if you need anything, you can just come over," she said, and handed me the slip of paper.
"Thanks... I guess," I said taking the piece of paper.
"No problem! See you later," she said and walked off.
"I will never understand women at all," I said to myself, then walked into the office.
"Ah yes, there you are Leonard. I was beginning to think you were not going to come to me at all," the principal said to me.
"No, I don't want to get in any more trouble than I already am in," I thought to myself.
"So I was going through your file, and saw that you didn't have any parent or guardian files, so I was unable to contact anyone. Do you mind filling out a form for me?" she asked me.
"I don't have any parents. Or guardians. I live in the city orphanage," I told her. Partial truth, and partial lie. I don't live in an orphanage.
"Oh... I am sorry to hear about that Leonard. Well, can you have your orphanage leader come in at some time to fill out your paperwork?" she asked me.
"Yeah, sure," I said. Looks like I'll need to call in some favors.
"Awesome. Thank you, Leonard. Now on to your punishment. You have lunch detention with Mr. Melsbach for the rest of this week and for all of next week," she told me.
"Okay ma'am, that is fine," I responded.
"Good! Now you have a nice rest of the day Leonard," she said, and with that released me.
"Glad that is done," I thought to myself, and walked out of the office. I was lost in thought when I bumped into someone.
"Watch where you a going ya bloke," a male said with a british accent. I recognized him from my Student Resource Period.
"Sorry... Bill?" I said, grasping at a random straw.
"Will. William Drew Baxter. It isn't a bother, my temper was unneccesary," he said.
"I wasn't watching where I was going," I said.
"It's all good mate," he said, and walked off.
"Wait! Do you want to be my friend...?" I asked, cringing at the words.
"Sure. I'll come by your table next lunch," he said, then shrugged, and walked off. I had asked him to be my friend because I realized that if I was to blend in, I would need at least one friend. Most people are seen as abnormal if they don't have friends, people are judgmental like that.
I then walked to the exit of the school, and went outside. It was a rather beautiful day outside, the sun was shining, there was a nice warm breeze, and people were out on the streets talking to each other. I took a nice long breath of the air. Nothing like the smell of pollution in the afternoon, am I right? I then looked for and found my villain gear I hid.
"Now, I have an orphanage to visit," I said aloud, and walked to the nearest bus stop.
