Chapter 4
"Hello Mr. Arthurson. It is a pleasure to have you in this class. In this class, you will get a real feel of chemistry, what goes into it, stuff like that. This is a very hard class, and know if you fail to learn something, that is not acceptable. I take no excuses. There is no extra credit, no late homework, and no bs. Please, find a seat, pull out a notebook, and get ready to learn. I will expect you to get previous notes from my previous classes from one of your peers. Good way to get to know someone," Mr. Melsbach said to me, and the counselor pat me on the back, nodded at the teacher, and left. I sat down in an open seat, right next to Gabby (God must love a good cliché). I pulled out a notebook and a pencil, flipped until I was near the middle of my notebook, and wrote down the notes on the board. Why flip until I was near the middle? Well, I didn't know how many notes I missed, and I wanted the notes in the order they were given, so going near the middle would make sense. I wrote down the notes including little things I caught from the teacher, and then the bell rang.
"Make sure you have this stuff ready for tomorrow, we might have a quiz," Mr. Melsbach said, and then let us leave. I gathered up my stuff, looked at my schedule (I had gymnastics next, that was the apparent talent I had in order to get into this school), and walked out of the class.
"Hey Leo, wait up," I heard a female voice call. I froze in my tracks, almost wanting to scream. This girl didn't have the right to call me Leo.
"My name is Leonard. Not Leo. Leonard. L E O N A R D," I said, turning to the girl. Guess who it was? It was Gabby.
"Oh, I'm sorry, I assumed you had the nickname of Leo," she said, giving me a look like, 'that was rather petty of you'.
"I didn't mean to snap at you. People that are very close to me earn the right to call me Leo, such as my best friends or if I had people in my extended family, or my siblings. In my family first names are a big thing," I said.
"Huh. Didn't know that. That's pretty neat," she said.
"So... What do you need?" I asked.
"Huh? Oh, yea! I was going to say that you could take my notes and copy them down. I was also going to say that you don't have to worry much about Mr. M. He says all that stuff about no bs and no extra credit just so the counselor doesn't get him fired or something. His class is hard, but we get chances to make up tests, get extra credit, and he does have a late work policy. You lose ten percent every day it is late," She said.
"Oh... okay... thanks..." I said. I was not much of a social person unless I needed to be. I was more introverted to be honest, so I was starting to get uncomfortable.
"Yea! No problems! Here are my notes, and if you need any help, just come find me!" She said, and started walking off.
"Uh, excuse me, you didn't give me your name," I said.
"Oh, my name is Gabriella Estrella, but everyone calls me Gabby," she said, and with that walked away.
"Strange girl," I thought to myself.
"What were you doing talking to her, punk?" I heard a rude voice say behind me. I turned to see a muscular guy.
"Well great, just what I needed, a jealous boyfriend to ask why I'm talking to his girl," I thought to myself.
"What is it to you, punk?" I asked. Sometimes I need to learn to shut my mouth.
"That is my girl," he said. Yes she is, and I will be leaving now.
"Okay, punk, that can be changed. What are you? A football player? How'd you end up in this prestigious academy? You sound stupider than a piece of shit," I said. God damn it, I really, really, really need to learn not to do this. Also, what do I have against football players?
"For your information, I am the best gymnast this school has, and I don't play the stupid sport of football, but rather the art of fencing," He said putting his nose in the air. Ah, let me wave my long schlong and point you with it.
"Hmm, cocky, arrogant, in over his head... sounds like Helix..." I thought to myself, then said, "Bull shit, my mother could fence better than you."
"You think your funny?" He said, then went to punch me. I saw his fist coming, almost in slow motion.
"Wants to start the fight? Sorta like Helix. This guy is a little... stupid... to be him... but maybe that is what he is trying to pull over my head. Should I dodge this punch or take it? If I dodge it, someone may notice that I was quick to dodge it. Not that it has not been done before, just most people can't dodge the first punch, unless they were in karate or something like that," I thought, and then got hit in the face. Not on purpose like I had planned it, but because I spent too much time thinking about it.
"Take that you little punk," he said, and laughed. I brushed myself off.
"Is that the best you got?" Really need to shut my mouth. He got even madder, as I expected. It was easy with Helix. I knew his fighting style. I learned his weaknesses with years of observation. I knew nothing about this dude. Yet my arrogant ass mouth doesn't want to shut the fuck up. He made wide punches, meaning he put more time into the swing then in the punch. A strong punch, but slow. I easily dodged that, and landed quick punches to his chest and throat. They weren't strong enough punches to knock him out, just enough to daze him, maybe just bruise him. He went for another punch backed by strength, and I dodged. I pushed him to get him unbalanced, giving me enough time to get energy for a strong punch. He straightened up, and I let my punch fly, hitting him right in the nose, not in an upward way, but downward so I wouldn't kill him. I saw his eyes water and he backed away. I then did a round house kick, and knocked him out.
"Dude... you knocked him out... cold," a dude said, poking the limp body. Thanks Captain Obvious. That isn't trademarked is it?
"Those five years in karate actually helped with something," I said. I never had five years of karate. It was a white lie to deceive them.
"Mr. Arthurson, what in the name of God happened here?" I heard Mr. Melsbach say, running up behind me.
"Well..." I started to say, trying to come up with an excuse.
"Tristen was preying on the weak per usual sir. Leo here was attacked, and he fought back," I heard a familiar voice say. I swear to God if it is her...
"Thank you, Marie. I will have to report this, and Tristen here will pay the consequences," Mr. Melsbach said, and then rushed off. Marie than grabbed my arm, and shoved me into an empty classroom. The bell for third class rang.
"Marie Quintina, what in the name of heaven and hell are you doing here?" I asked. Now you may be confused. Who is Marie? Well, she is my main and most trusted informant. She knows all of my identities, knows where to get supplies if I needed them, etc. I always could get good information from here, and in return, I do a job or two for her. Free some guy from jail? Give me a month's worth of data on the hideout of Team Amazing. You need me to steal some crates? Get me a week's worth of food and I'll get it done. She is my most important asset. Yes, she is a teenager. Yes, it seems like it would be impossible for her to get information like that. But I don't question her.
"Leo, this is where I go to school," she said. No, she did not have the right to call me Leo. Does she listen? No. What woman does?
"Don't you Leo me! And that is bull shit," I said.
"Fine, you got me. I had information that told me that a Leonard Arthurson was enrolled at this school and I had to find out if it was you or not," she said, then went to kiss me. Was she my girlfriend? No. We had a fling every now and then (nothing too spicy), but we were NOT together.
"Stop. How did you know Tristen?" I asked pushing her off of me.
"I did my research. He is a big bully. Don't you like my kisses?" she asked, batting her eyes.
"I don't not like them.... they are fine... but that's changing the subject, you need to leave," I said.
"Why is that, honey? Am I too irresistible for you?" she said, stroking her hair and sliding closer to me.
"NO! I mean yes! I mean no! Look, I'm on a mission and I don't want you getting in the way," I told her. Yes, she was hot. Yes, I was slightly into her.
"I know. And I'm here to help you per usual. You won't even notice me," she said, then winked, gave me a kiss on the cheek, and swayed her hips out of the door. Looks like I was stuck with her.
