Morning Fever

Waking up was undesirable for many reasons. Your body was tired; Your mind didn't have enough REM sleep; You liked your dream; You had to deal with the shit Life threw at you. Garroth particularly hated that last one. Especially when he was already struggling without Life's shit. But he hated it now more than ever because now it meant that he had to deal with all the drama of "Garroth kissed Laurance under the mistletoe" and "Look at all the pictures I got (of Garroth kissing Laurance under the mistletoe)". He just wanted this stupid topic to dissipate.

Garroth sighed, silencing his alarm as it awoke him from a particularly good dream. Great. He was trapped in reality again. He briefly checked his phone, but most of the notifications were about what had happened between him and Laurance. He sighed, stuffing his phone in his pocket and then getting up. He felt awful, most likely due to the fact that he had fallen asleep in normal clothes instead of sleep clothes.

Garroth debated going back to sleep, but he decided against it. After the annoyance of having to dig through mounds of stuff to find his gift for the party yesterday, he decided he might as well clean today. Not that he wanted to, especially considering that Dante and Laurance didn't have work so he would have to wait for them to wake up before he could vacuum. Unless Laurance woke up first. Then he'd vacuum right outside of Dante's room as payback for yesterday's peer pressure. He just knew he ought to.

He started tidying around his room with a sigh, finding quite a few things that he had been looking for in the process-- Including a Christmas sweater he hadn't known he had. It must have been a gift. Or something someone else had left in his room. Either way, he wish he had known about it yesterday. It was a nice sweater. He tossed it in his overflowing laundry basket and then continued to clean. When he could see his floor, he paused to get a snack and cool off.

Walking into the kitchen, he grimaced as he saw Dante was awake, but the other thankfully hadn't noticed him yet and he had a moment to fix his sour expression. Then he saw Garroth and his face set itself into a smirk. "Hey. Sleep well after last night? I'm sure all that kissing kept you awake~" He teased in a singsong voice.

Garroth rolled his eyes and moved to the fridge. "I don't know. How'd you sleep, knowing you missed a chance to kiss a girl? After all, you were standing under the mistletoe with Kawaii~chan as you pressured me and Laurance into that kiss." Dante paled, staring at Garroth. His cheeks started to turn a little red as he fully processed their words, and he shut up for a moment as he thought up a response. Garroth took the moment of silence as a minor victory as he looked through the fridge for something to eat. Maybe he could make a sandwich... or something.

He took out the deli meats, cheese, mayo, and bread, and went to get a knife. Dante thought for a moment longer before looking back at Garroth. "At least I didn't kiss my best friend and make it awkward between me and him." Garroth paused, a light blush dusting his cheeks as he pulled a knife out of the silverware drawer. He calmed it, though.

"At least I have a best friend. Haven't you dated all of yours?" He turned back around and moved to make his sandwich. Dante scoffed. "What? No I haven't! I have a best friend! I've got Travis!" Garroth let his eyes slowly drift up to stare at Dante, his gaze mildly judgmental. "Right. I should have phrased it better. At least I have a best friend that people would actually compete for. The only person competing to be Travis' best friend is Aphmau, and she's everybody's best friend."

Dante glared at him, but he just laughed. "What? Don't want to admit I'm right? You know, if you're in denial, that's a river in Egypt and you should probably get out of it." Dante's eyebrows knit together in mild confusion, and he blinked. "...What?" Garroth shrugged, slowly spreading the mayo over the bread and then starting to layer roast beef and chicken on his sandwich.

"Sounded funny. Dunno. I don't want to argue with you. I just want you to shut up." Dante scoffed, clearly offended. "Wow. How nice of you to say it like that." Garroth started cutting up some of the cheese (gruyere) and putting it on top of the sandwich. "You know what I mean. About me and Laurance. If it's all you're going to talk about, I can and will kick you out. I don't want to talk about it." Dante stared at him for a moment before scoffing. "Then why'd you do it? You could have just said no. I'm pretty sure the only person disappointed would be Kawaii~chan."

Garroth stopped. Why had he done it, actually? Not that Dante was right, but he didn't have to do it, he supposed. He just did it because... Well...

"You idiots were surrounding us and chanting 'Kiss' like you were about to sacrifice us to the rock band. What was I supposed to do? I can't read your mind, Dante. I don't know when you're being serious or just kidding around. And that's totally not fair anyway. You know everyone would have made more fun of me for not doing it. Kawaii~chan would make up some stupid ship and then everyone would agree with her." Dante snorted, unable to stop a small laugh from escaping him. "You say that like her ships ever come true." Garroth's expression went deadpan. "Aphmau and Aaron." Dante rolled his eyes. "Besides them."

Garroth sighed, returning to making his sandwich. "Just stop. I don't want this to become a whole big thing, Dante. I just want to enjoy my week off work without being forced to relive the embarrassment of kissing Laurance. I didn't want to do it; I did it because I was pressured to do it and, contrary to popular belief, I crack under pressure." It was quiet for a moment. The coffee pot brewed quietly in the corner, the refrigerator whirring with life and the other kitchen appliances sitting vacant. The only other noise was that of the plastic packaging of the cheese as he rolled the gruyere up and put it back in the fridge with the other sandwich-making materials.

"Just leave me be. It's taken me over twenty minutes to make a simple sandwich with you annoying me about this, and I'm really hungry." Garroth picked up his finished sandwich as he finished speaking, putting it on a plate so he could take it to his room to eat while he cleaned. Dante sighed, moving to the coffee machine and getting the coffee he had been brewing. "Fine. Whatever. What have you been doing this morning anyway? I normally see you before I go out for a run. I didn't even see you when I came back."

Garroth shrugged, taking down a mug and handing it to Dante out of habit. He was still in morning mode, if he was honest. "Cleaning, I guess. I couldn't find my gift for the party yesterday because my room looks like my closet exploded." Dante whistled in surprise, not expecting that response. Well, the cleaning part.

"I didn't know you were capable of being clean. You, like... never, ever were. Ever." While it was true, it did kind of sting, but that might just be because he was hangry. "You're no cleanliness connoisseur yourself. The last time I went into your room, I got lost." Dante blushed, hiding his face. It wasn't even an exaggeration on Garroth's part.

"Shut up. Some people find that... attracti--" "Don't even try to tell me that with a straight face." Garroth interrupted, before taking a bite of his sandwich. "We both know that anyone finding that attractive is more of a red flag than a green one, for both parties."

Dante glared at Garroth, and Garroth held his gaze. Eventually, they both looked away. Garroth poured himself some coffee and then straightened. "Right. I'm gonna get back to cleaning, then. You have fun... doing whatever you're doing. Tell me when Laurance wakes up. I found a bunch of his stuff in my room." Dante raised an eyebrow, and he paused, before blushing slightly. "Shut up. It was before the party." Dante smirked. "Sure it was." "Shut up!" Garroth left the room as quick as possible. Damn.
