Prologue

A/N: For those that already read the title, I changed it sorry

    I never thought I'd be a liar. Growing up, I was taught to always do the right thing, and that includes telling the truth, no matter what. It's always gotten me pretty far in life, so I've always told nothing but the truth. Until something happened where I couldn't.

~~~
   Parties were stupid. I never understood the appeal of getting drunk off your ass so much that you couldn't remember your own name, just to wake up in the morning feeling like you were hit by a Mack truck.
Being best friends with someone who loved partying, though, was the entire reason I dragged myself to some. I didn't go to a lot, maybe one every couple months. I did it primarily to spend time with my best friend Ava even though half the time she ditched me shortly after arriving. Her and I were opposites, but I guess opposites attracted; we sure did. Ava acted as if we didn't have piles upon piles of assignments due the next day, but I made sure to get mine done before coming. I couldn't afford to fail a class, college was expensive and I couldn't afford to retake anything.
We were at another one of those annoying parties when she ditched me to do body shots off one of the football guys. I never participated in stupid drinking games unless it was something harmless - body shots didn't appeal to me. So I watched from a distance as she poured the tequila in the toned guys belly button, placed the lime in his mouth, and went to down. After she got the tequila on her tongue, she went for the lime but the guy was fast and dropped the lime so they were making out.
I sighed heavily as Ava climbed on top of him, grinding her front against him as they made out. I turned away slightly, downing my sixth or seventh drink by this time and shaking my head.
"You next?" I heard a husky voice ask close to my ear. I turned and saw the familiar grey eyes of Jaxon Cohen. Jax for short, he hung out in the same crowd as the guy currently dry humping my best friend. I called them the group of try hards, since they had unrealistic goals of getting into the NFL after college instead of making backup plans like normal people.
I scoffed, shaking my head. "You wish."
"Come on Ellie," Jax whispered, running his hand from my shoulder to my hand tantalizingly slow. "Live a little."
I tried to ignore the usual shivers I got when he did that. Jax had been trying to get me to sleep with him since freshman year. He slept with other girls, of course, but the fact that he was a player was the entire reason I wouldn't do anything. Being a college senior, I'd had my fair share of sex, but it was always with guys I was dating. I'd never had a one night stand, and I didn't plan to. Jax called me Ellie, much to my chagrin and Ava's enjoyment. Ava said it made me special, but she was delusional; he was just playing a game of cat and mouse, and I refused to be baited.
Sure, he was insanely attractive. Due to his constant time in the gym, he was physically fit, with grey eyes and a mop of dark hair, but he was trouble. He, along with my brother and their friends, were more concerned with partying and football and girls than school. My brother was an embarrassment chasing dreams of the NFL and he always told me he'd prove me wrong.
"Ellie," Jax sang, moving his hand from my arm to my stomach and caressing it softly. He moved his hand up, coming to rest on the top of my breast and my breath caught in my throat. I couldn't help the heat pooling down below; it'd been a year since my last boyfriend cheated on me and had been entirely too long since I'd felt the pleasures of sex.
"I can't, Jaxon," I mumbled softly, turning my attention back to our friends on the table. Ava's blonde hair was thrown to the side as whatever the guy's name was kissed down her jaw. She was moaning and grinding her hips, obviously enjoying it and I had to bite my tongue so I didn't tell them to get a room.
"That could be us," Jaxon mumbled, obviously enjoying that I hadn't yet moved his hand. By now I would have run; I always had been a runner. I didn't like confrontation, I hated telling people no to anything and so if I ever had to I'd run. I couldn't face my fears, I was a wimp of epic proportions. I felt my resolve melting away as he caressed my breast outside my shirt, though. I'd yearned to be touched like this for far too long, and tonight was my ticket there.
I looked towards Jaxon once more, analyzing his features. His jaw was slightly clenched and I could tell he was holding himself back. Jax was an idiot, a jerk and someone I never hung out with or talked to, but he wasn't heartless. He'd never rape someone or go that far without someone's consent. He wasn't a gentleman - hell, that was the farthest from what he was, but he would never rape someone.
His grey eyes were clouded over with lust and I felt like I was looking into a mirror. I knew my green eyes had lust in them like his own. I felt a stirring in my stomach and knew that just for once I could throw my inhibitions away and let loose. One time couldn't hurt. One time of having sex freely without being in a relationship wouldn't make or break me.
So I ran my hand through his dark brown locks slowly, teasingly, and physically saw him intake a sharp inhale of breath. He wasn't expecting that, I knew it. He moved his hand from their original place and snaked his arms around my waist. Jax was staring down at me like I was the only person in this room right now, and that's probably because he'd already banged a majority of them. After we had sex, he'd go back to ignoring me and I'd go back to ignoring him.
"You wanna do this, Ellie?" Jax asked huskily. "Am I finally getting through to you?"
"No strings, right?" I confirmed, just to be sure. I didn't want to take any chances - Jax was not my type whatsoever.
Jaxon scoffed, cocking a brow. "Duh. You're the last person I'd date, no offense."
"Back at you," I mumbled. The pang of hurt was there, but not overbearing - I felt the same way about him. Then I looked back to Ava, seeing her busy and nodded. "Let's go."
Jaxon's eyes widened in excitement - I was popular,  but I was smart and I was hardly the type to agree to a one night stand. He grabbed my hand, leading us through the throngs of people and I watched as eyes widened and people turned nosily. This was the unlikeliest of pairings - He was a jock and I was a nerd. Popular, sure, but a different kind of popular than the jocks and cheerleaders. I just knew a lot of people and a lot of people knew me - I was well liked.
When we came upon the first unoccupied room, he threw the door closed and locked it. He leaned in, pressing his lips to mine hungrily for the first time ever and I moaned into his mouth. Jax led us back towards the random person's bed and when I felt the back of my knees hit the bed, we fell. Our kiss didn't break, and once we were laying down his lips departed mine with a teasing bite. He trailed kisses from my mouth, down my jaw, and to my neck where he lightly nibbled and sucked.
My hands found their way into his soft hair as I groaned at the feelings inside me. It'd been entirely too long since I let loose, and I needed this. He brought his lips back up to mine, continuing where we left our passionate kiss off and his hands found the way to the button of my jeans. I helped him shimmy them off and began working on his shirt, all the while still kissing. We didn't break it until we were both undressed.
Heavily breathing and panting was all that could be heard in the silence of the room. The music thudded lowly as background noise but we hardly paid it any attention. "Do you have a condom?" I asked cautiously, nervously; I needed this but I wasn't on birth control.
He kissed down my chest, mumbling his next words against my skin. "I'll pull out."
I nodded, though he couldn't see me because he was too focused on his mission down south and by the time we were finished - an hour later, mind you, we were exhausted. "You are so good," Jax mumbled against my skin. "Better than I ever imagined."
"You're not too bad yourself," I murmured through panting. I'd taken initiative during most of it, so I was out of breath. Being in control was something I hardly ever did, but I let my feelings consume me and it had apparently worked for the best.
Slowly but surely, Jax nodded off and soon his panting turned to heavy breathing and light snores. I redressed slowly, careful not to wake him up before sneaking out of the room and locking the door. I was a bitch and couldn't stand Jax, but I wasn't going to let him get taken advantage of.
"You had sex!" Ava squealed as I came into her view. Her hair was messy and unkempt and her lipstick was smeared from her lips to her ear. When I didn't correct her, she gasped. "Who was it?"
I shrugged, following her out of the house the party was being held in. We were off campus and I knew if we didn't get back soon we'd get no sleep for classes tomorrow. It was then that I told the first lie I could remember telling, and the first of many to come. "Some random guy. I don't think he goes to our school. I've never seen him before."
And Ava accepted it easily, since I had never lied.
