Chapter one
"Mom, Stop it. Please, I'm fine."
"Don't give me attitude." She hisses. "I don't want you to look homeless, that's all. But really, if you died today, you would look sparkling."
"Mom." I groan.
"Yeah, okay." She sighs.
She tightened the ribbon that went around my waist as if she was trying to suffocate me, but I had to admit, I did quite like how it looked. My dress went down to my knees and was Cyan Blue all around. It had small patterns of lace following the edges here and there. Two Dutch braids rested on my shoulders that were tightly knit together.
Okay, you have to understand me here, that there are two sides of my mother. If I introduce her to a boy it's either. "Get-ugly-boy-toy-out-of-my-house" or, "I'll-get-your-wedding-dress-sweetheart-you're-getting married-tonight" in this case, it was the second one. This boy was absolutely dazzling. (As my mom would say) he has soft brown hair with hazel eyes that look like poop. Well, ten times hotter. Just, really, really hot, poop-looking eyes. Okay, forget the poop. They are just really pretty.
He invited me to dinner at Red Lobsters. Fancy, huh? I doubt I'll even eat lobster there, but I'll make it work. Probably.
"Mom, I gotta go, Kelsey is already pulling up." I said as I gave her a gentle hug.
"Oh! Don't forget this." She said as she clasped her hand around mine and in it dropped a small item. I opened my hand to see, lipstick. I gave her a look to give her a chance to explain herself.
"What? You gotta paint the barn. I already put the rest of the makeup in your bag for you."
"Gee, thanks, Mom." I said. This made it a little easier to scurry out the door as quick as I could.
