Background

Following the discovery of Primonium in Antarctica, Rasmus Kane became obsessed with the new element. After thousands of tests, not all of them ethical, he discovered that exposure to the element could cause the manifestation of superhuman abilities and/or mutations. Kane had the idea to use this element to Atlas Corp's advantage by creating super soldiers. Pearce Shaw and the board of directors were heavily against this idea, leading Kane to conduct his experiments behind their backs after his funding was cut.

One of these experiments included a young Victor Shaw, Pearce's son who possessed the specific set of genes necessary to survive exposure to Primonium. Upon finding out what Kane had done, he was cut out of Atlas and would've ended up in prison had it not been for Pearce deciding to press charges. Disgraced and feeling betrayed, Kane attempted to appeal to the board one last time. They declined his proposals. After another argument with Pearce that same night, Kane abducted Victor and went off the grid for years.

During this time, Kane used the contacts he gathered from working at Atlas to develop his network of researchers, mercenaries, and others that could help him establish his own group. He created Kismet (or KISMET) to further his development of enhanced peoples with Primonium. Eventually, his goals shifted to taking over the world with those he deemed superior to the average human.

Following the Battle of Adak Island, Kane's ultimate goal of spreading Primonium through the Earth's atmosphere was realized, but he died in the process at the hands of Victor Shaw, who broke free of his brainwashing. KISMET was effectively neutralized and is now defunct.

Adak Island

One of KISMET's main bases and their eventual headquarters was based out of an old US military camp off the coast of Alaska on Adak Island. Part of the site was converted into a research site where the Asclepius machine was constructed.

In the winter of 2019, Atlas and the Prime Task Force attacked the base in an effort to neutralize the Asclepius machine and KISMETs assets. Atlas eventually won the battle, but they failed in their objective, as they couldn't prevent the Asclepius from carrying out its order. After the battle, the base was seized by Atlas and it is now deserted.

The Asclepius

The Asclepius was created via schematics from Nexus Industries, a pharmaceutical company that had been developing technology to disperse vaccines into illness-ravaged communities by way of airborne particles. After these schematics were stolen from a Nexus Industries research facility by KISMET, Kane modified the plans to create a machine that would launch Primonium into the planet's atmosphere.
