Chapter 8
short chapter
2 days after the party.
Natasha was on a time crunch. She had been in contact with many people wondering if anyone would pay her a decent amount for her article on Tony Stark, and of course, the one company who actually trusted her sources, SHIELD, contacted her asking for the article.
The only problem was the article was not done yet, and they wanted it in a week. Now some might say that's a reasonable amount of time, but not for Natasha. With all the facts she got she had to go throw all of it and decided what should and shouldn't go in the article.
She to say the very least she was stressed out. And to make matters worse her computer just crashed on her. She was not having an ideal morning. She gathered up all her stuff and practically ran to the library. She needed this done or all her credibility will be lost. And she wasn't about to let that happen.
She actually was actually excited to see Steve, because of all thought she was trying to hide her weird stalking feelings. But they couldn't go away in a day so those feelings were now stalking her heart ready to burst out of nowhere. And that's what scared her.
She arrived at the library, her heart racing. But to her own disappointment Sam Wilson sat there. A smirk plastered on his face as she walked past him to her usual table.
"Hey beautiful what brings you here today?" he asked.
"work. And don't call me that." She said pulling things out of her purse and setting up a computer.
"Oh, I am sorry your boyfriend might get angry with me." He said smirking. "I never thought you and Stevie boy would date. How weird." He said acting as if he knew something more.
"Why are you talking like that?" She asked now finally looking at him.
"You know, I actually thought you two were together, but then Wanda and James filled me in. But anyone who would have just looked at you two would have guessed you were together. Super cute."
"They knew?" She asked with a sigh. Sam nodded his head. "So why didn't anyone say anything. They just let us pretend to be dating all day without saying anything?"
"Well, they thought it was cute. Besides you, two seemed to be enjoying yourselves so we did you the favor of allowing you guys. So you are welcome." He said. Natasha sent him and glare then turned back to her computer. Sam, however, was not finished speaking to her. "Well, doll you, unfortunately, can't hang out with me today. My shift ends in ten minutes."
"Oh, how sad," Natasha said flatly. She didn't even bother to look at him. Sam was a nice guy, often helped her with work but he had a flirting problem.
"Yeah, I know. But don't shed a tear you will see me soon." He said and logged out of the computer on the desk in front of him from whatever he was doing on it. "Hey and tell Maria I say hello."
"Sam, we have been over this. Maria doesn't like you. Neither romantically nor in a friend way." She said.
"Sure, she can hide her true feelings for long." He said as someone walked into the library. Natasha kept her eyes on the computer. "Alright see you soon hun." He smiled and then walked away.
Steve was surprised to see Natasha in the library. If he was being completely honest he hadn't expected to see her for a while. The party was pretty awkward. He watched as she typed frantically at her keyboard. He was surprised it didn't break into two.
"Hello, Natasha." Steve smiled, Natasha's heart skipped a beat she looked up and gave him a sweat small smile. "What are you doing?"
"Work." She answered with an eye roll. "I have something to turn in by the end of the week."
"Work huh? You wanna tell me what you do? You are very secretive is it embarrassing?" He asked taking out all his work for the day. He looked at her and saw that she was still typing.
"You know Rogers, my work has a big part of secretive." She answered.
"Why are you like some sort of spy?" He asked opening up a book that had just been turned in. He was making sure there was nothing left inside of it before putting on the cart so it can on the self.
"No, but it takes the fun out of my work if you know the identity of me." She admitted.
"Will I ever get know what you do for a living?" He asked her.
"Maybe one day."
