Legend of Zelda Twilight Princess: Chapter 16

Kairi's pov

We changed into our human form after teleporting to Lake Hylia in our wolf forms.  I squinted at the large brick tower that was a distance away.  Before I changed into my human form I could smell a same unfamiliar scent that was in Telma's bar. I thought that could be Auru that Telma was talking about.  What we were told was he was checking out the Gerudo Desert according to Telma. Link and I walked to the tower, and climbed up the ladder meeting Auru at the top.  Once we got up there he was looking in the direction of the desert using binoculars.

"I thought it was about time for all of you to arrive..Master Link, Master Shadow, and Lady Kairi is it?" He asked.

I nodded in response to him.

"You two know Telma, don't you? I am Auru. I am part of the group that Telma kindly  allows to meet at her bar. I have heard about both your deeds from her. Now..You three being courageous youth..You have likely heard the strange events in the desert and have come to investigate, no?  Or am I mistaken?"

"We are actually." I responded.

"You do know, don't you, master Link, master Shadow and lady Kairi?"

"Know what?" I asked raising an eyebrow.

'Is he asking about the mirror? Does he know about it?'

"The Gerudo desert once held a prison built to hold the worst criminals this land has ever known...The criminals who were sentenced to death were sent directly  to the underworld  by a cursed mirror that was kept in the prison...Now that prison is condemned, and even the road leading to the desert is impassable. This desert at worlds end..It still holds the cursed mirror and the malice  of the doomed inmates...These old bones know that the evil currently plaguing hyrule is related to this wicked place. So I have come to learn the truth...Master Link , Master Shadow, and lady Kairi. I must ask..What will you three do now? Don't tell me you plan to enter the desert and confirm my suspicions with your own eyes?" Auru said.

We all nodded in response and he sighed.

"Ah is that so..Then let good old Auru help you all out..You see Lake Hylia below us?  A man named Fyer  runs an amusement ride of sorts there.  Give him this. "

Auru pulled out of his pocket a piece of paper, and handed it to Link.

"See, long ago,  I save this man Fyer's life, and now he cannot refuse me if I ask a favor. If  you leave the rest up to Fyer, all should go well." He finished.

We all got down off the ladder and headed to the colorful house that was used as a cannon by Fyer.  Link took out the paper and showed Fyer. He looked over it and sighed.

"From old Auru, huh..Ah well I guess I outta do what the old coot says...Oasis flight..right? So here you go, one of our secret options not available to the general public..This time's all paid for...so whaddaya say? You wanna go?" He said.

We looked at each other and nodded. We got in one at a time and got shot into the same direction. After I was shot I stood up and dusted myself off after getting covered in sand. The other two joined me in mere seconds.

"Well lets get going." Shadow said.

"Wait.."

As I took my first step that was when Midna spoke up. I looked over at her. Once we turned around looking at her she looked away crossing her legs, and putting her hands behind her. I was confused by the posture she gave and pondered if she had something important to say to us.

"Before we go on, there's something I want you all to hear...Do you remember what the spirit said about the fused Shadows?  What do you think happened to those magic wielders who tried to rule the sacred realm? They were  banished. They were chased across the sacred lands of Hyrule and driven into another realm by the goddesses. It was another world entirely..the antithesis of Hyrule, where the sun shines bright. Its denizens  became shadows that count not mingle with the light. Eventually, most came to call it the Twilight Realm, and from it, none could return the world of light...They were forever doomed to live in the twilight, flitting in the half-light of dusk, mere shadows of Hyrule...This is the history of the Twili as it has been passed down from our ancestors...Do you understand what I am now? I'm a descendant of the tribe that was banished to the Twilight Realm!  It was a peaceful place..until Zant took control of the Twilight Realm and transformed all the Twili into shadow beasts.  It's clear to me now that he somehow gained a great evil power previously unknown to our tribe..In any case, I was sent from there, and could no longer get into the Twilight Realm without his power.  But there's another tale told by my people. Though the goddesses forbade us to return to the world of light, they left one link between the light and darkness. Something called the mirror of twilight was passed to the protectors of Hyrule... It's our only path to the Twilight Realm...and we must get there! You will all come with me..wont you?"

Midna placed her small hand on my cheek looking for a sign. I looked at her. She had gone through so much, she wants to help rid the world of this darkness as well as help her world. Even though I have to save my sister that wasn't the only reason why I would agree. She has become my friend. Midna has sacrificed and helped us so much through our journey, and I know it will continue until the darkness is permanently gone.

"Of course we'll come with you..right boys?"

I looked at the two waiting for the same answer. The two of them nodded and looked at Midna. She pulled her hand back slowly, and with a final small smile appearing on her face she went back into my shadow.

"Well we better get going it'll take us a while to get to place in the distance where the mirror must be held at." Link said.

The sun was scorching and it felt like we were being melted. We took our time with walking and I knew I wouldnt last long in the heat.

"Why must it be in a desert.."I groaned.

"Life sucks that's why." Shadow said.

In the distance opposite of the place we were aimed for I saw a long object sticking in the air.

"What's that over there?" I asked pointing.

"I'm not sure..perhaps we should check it out." Link suggested.

We made our way over to the large tall object and identified what it was. As we got closer we were penned in.  We all knew what this meant.  5 of the shadow beings fell and began attacking us.  We killed all of them and a portal formed above us.

"Well now we don't have to take the cannon." Shadow commented.

"We will also be closer to our destination encase we need to go back to Hyrule."  I pointed out.

"So this is where zant sent the part of the eldin bridge. Before anything we should send this back." Link said.

Looking at one another we all agreed. Midna teleported the part to its place fitting perfectly. After that we teleported back. We changed back into humans.

"So it was the eldin bridge." Shadow said.

"Why would zant take it out though?" Link asked.

"Probably to slow us down."

"That could be one of the reasons.."I said trailing off.

"We are wasting time wondering what Zant is thinking! Let's hurry to the desert to the mirror or twilight!" Midna shouted.

"Chill out short stuff." Shadow said.

"Who the hell are you calling short!"

"The one who's only 2 feet tall."

"I am much taller in my original form!"

"We will have to see."

"I thought we were going to the desert." I reminded them.

"Yes..we still are!" Midna said.

With that we teleported back to the desert on the same place part of the eldin bridge .

"We should stay in our wolf forms.  Our fur might be able to keep us cool under this sun." I advised to link.

"I think i see a Colosseum with columns in the distance." Shadow pointed out.

"That should be where the mirror of twilight is! Let's go!" Midna spoke in excitement.

We jumped off landing into the warm sand.  It felt weird on my wolf paws.  Link and I began running straight toward where shadow pointed.  I made sure to keep at a steady pace, so I didn't over work myself.  The sun was scorching and I could feel the intense heat coming off it.  After a while we came upon a camp with monsters. I could see the towers they built out of wood that had single monsters on top. I went behind a rock so I wouldn't be spotted and Link followed suit.  Midna changed us back into our human forms.  I wiped my forehead, and got a canteen out of the bag.

"Everyone needs to stay hydrated. This heat could be the end for us if we don't." I advised them.

I took a swig of water and handed it to Link.  We all took our turns taking water from the canteen. Midna went into my shadow after taking her turn.

"So there are lookouts. We need to take them out before they warn the others sitting by the fire."

I watched as Link got his bow out and aimed it at the creatures on the towers..  After getting them killed we took out the rest of the creatures that surrounded the campfire.  I walked over to the boar and petted its snout.

"We can use these to ride the rest of the way and take out those spiked wooden walls covering the entrances." I suggested.

"I can just fly over." Shadow shrugged.

"Yeah, but we can't." I reminded him.

After Link and I got onto the boar we lead them into the arbiter's grounds. I looked at some steps that were to high for the boar's to climb.

"This is where we get off. The boar's can't climb up those steps."

After getting off, Link and I climbed up the steps while Shadow just flew waiting for us.

"Would you stop showing off." I said.

"I am only using what I was born with~." He snickered.

I rolled my eyes and helped Link up the last step. As I turned around out of the corner of my eye I saw a a glowing light. Turning my head in the direction I saw the wolves. The yellow/gold glowing wolf that worked with link and the silver and red that worked with me to help me assist link.

"Shadow watch over our bodies while we go train." I ordered.

"Yeah yeah I know the routine." He said rolling his eyes.

"Don't roll your eyes at me." I scolded.

"Fine fine~. I like keeping my eyes on you anyways." He said.

"Come on." Link spoke up grabbing my hand and pulled me over to the wolves.

After the fold jumped at me I was back in the dimension where I was last. The wolf turned back into the heroine and I watched as she stretched her arms. This time the ground was covered in sand like the desert.

"Welcome back. I see you have grown since we last met. You  have the sword of light as well."

"I do. I am ready to learn the next element to help link. Will it be dealing with sand?" I asked.

"It will. The creature you will face to get to the mirror of twilight will be surrounded by quick sand. You will need to be able to move around in the sand in order to help defeat it."

"How am I suppose to control sand or any sort of earth?"

"That's when the tri force comes into play. No one can control the elements or have power without help. Your race has abilities of their own, but without the tri force you wouldn't be able to harness or use the powers I have taught you. The tri force of love will not work without a purpose behind your intent. You have one which is the reason why the tri force has been helping you this whole time."

"I see..Well let's get training then."

"Think of your purpose. Once you do imagine the sand to do what you want. I want you to try and raise the sand."

I closed my eyes thinking of Chihiro. Thinking of the life I wanted to have with her. Living in Ordon with Link and the others who have helped me. What I wanted was to be happy with the ones I care about. Once that faded I imagined the sand moving upward in front of me.

"Now open your eyes."

I did as she said and saw the sand had risen up in front of me.

"I did it." I said in excitement.

"I want you to use your purpose to influence what you want to do."

I nodded. It felt like hours went by. I practiced manipulating the sand to my will with Chihiro on my mind.  I began shaping the sand into different shapes as well. I felt like I was getting the hang of using the sand.

"Use it to attack now."

"How so?"

"It is simple. Shape it into a spear and send it flying, or whatever object of your choice."

I raised s pile of sand up and imagined a spear. As I did the sand changed into what I was thinking in my head.

"Now send it flying at me."

"Won't it hurt you?"

"I'll be fine. This is to help you with your training. Go ahead."

"I..guess."

I lifted my arm, pulled it back and shot my arm forward. Throughout the movements I did the sand spear followed and shot at the woman.  As it did she dodged out of the way in the blink of an eye.

"Wow.."

"I told you it be fine. Besides even if it were to hit me I would be fine. I am dead after all."

"Right.."

"Now we are going to work on using the sand as transportation."

"Transportation?"

"Yes. Like creating a block of sand and riding it for example."

The woman began to rise up as the sand lifted her up and formed into a tight block.

"I see now.."

"Try it. Just envision the sand forming into a block underneath you and lifting upwards."

I nodded and did as she said.  I could feel the sand below me begin to form, and I was lifted off the ground.  I managed to get my balance and looked down.

"I'm doing it!"

"Very good..now that is all you will need. You know the basics and how to control the sand to your will."

She began to fade away as she does usually when we are done with the training.  However, she began to spoke as the bottom of her began to fade going upwards.

"Be careful..I can sense more evil besides the evil in the temple."

"More evil?"

"Yes. I believe Zant or someone else is nearby..Be careful and keep your guard."

Her voice faded to nothing and I found myself in a black void.  Only after minutes of being in there a light shined through.

"Kairi wake up already! Stop snoozing! We have to get to the mirror of Twilight! "

'I know that voice..'

The light got brighter and brighter and I found myself staring into a single, red eye. Midna was floating above me with the canteen in her hand. The lid was off and she had it slightly tilted.

"What did you plan to do with that..?" I asked raising my eyebrow.

"I tried waking you up by yelling, but you wouldn't budge. Your eyelids didn't even move."

"Oh..I was training. Just took a while longer then usual I guess."

"Felt like forever!" She shouted.

"Midna, it wasn't that long. Stop your bitching." Shadow scolded.

"Don't tell me what to do! Anyways, we are wasting our time here. We need to hurry and get to the mirror of twilight now!" Midna said.

"Are you sure you're feeling okay Kairi?" Link said with concern.

He was bent beside me looking at me.  I looked over at him and nodded.

"Yeah, I am. As I said it just took a little longer then usual." I assured him.

He stood up and held a hand out. I went to grab it, then another hand grabbed mine and pulled me fully off the ground. Shadow carried me bridal style.

"She said she's fine Shadow." Link reminded him.

I shifted my eyes toward Link, and noticed his eyebrows narrowed in a slight scowl. I could hear Shadow snicker, and my eyes shifted over to him.

"I can carry her if I want too. Besides she's probably exhausted from training." He told him.

"I told you all I'm fine." I said.

"Can we get moving already?! Fate of the world sort of at stake here! Both worlds!" Midna yelled.

"Okay okay!"  Shadow yelled back.

"Don't yell at me!"

"Both of you stop yelling and let's go." I got down from shadow's hold.

They both glared at one another before Midna went back into my shadow.  I headed deeper into the maze to find the entrance to the temple with the others following behind me.  I stopped and took a few steps back.

"What's wrong?" Link asked.

"More monsters." I warned them.

I got out my bow, and aimed it at the creature on top of the wooden tower. I released the arrow and got a critical hit.

"Seems we have more monsters to defeat." Shadow said.

"I just mentioned about the monsters."

"I know, I just thought I mention it again." He teased.

I rolled my eyes. I got my sword out and proceeded toward the camp of monsters with the other two behind me. We fought numerous creatures before making it to a gate that was blocking the way toward the temple.  It was shut tight and had skulls on each door.

"How do we get in? It's most likely locked." I mentioned.

"I found this key when I defeated a monster. It probably fits in the keyhole." Link spoke up.

He inserted the key into the hole and it opened the large gate with skulls on it.  Link lead the way with Shadow and I following inside.  It was dark inside, so it was difficult to see anything.  All we saw was a large boar that the other monsters used.

"We can use this to get around. Kairi can ride with me on this." Link said approaching it.

Separate from Link's own footsteps I could hear heavier ones.  I smelled the air and a familiar scent got my attention.

"Link wait!"

Suddenly King Bublin came out and swung his large axe knocking the boar to the side and sending link to the other. I ran over to him and helped him sit up.

"Are you okay?" I asked concerned.

"Y-yeah. I didn't get slashed thank goodness.." He said.

I helped him stand up, then got my sword out.

"Seems we have no choice, but to fight him."

Link got his sword out as well and we fought King Bublin until he dropped his axe and fell over.  I squinted my eyes ins suspicion.  I could see him breathing still meaning we didn't kill him.  King bublin got up his right arm shaking.  After getting on his feet he held his right arm. I was guessing it got damaged in the fight more then his other arm.  He looked back at us and said something in his own language then hobbled out.  Wooden spikes rose up and slammed back down after he limped out. My nose twitched and I smelled something...burning! Soon the place was beginning to burn as fire spread.

"We have to get out of here!" Link shouted.

"Duh!" Shadow yelled.

I could hear some snorting to my right. I turned my head looking at the boar that was knocked earlier by King Bublin. The boar was still alive, it got up shaking it's body the dust flying off it.

"Let's use the boar to push the gate open!" I suggested.

I ran over to it and jumped on.

"Link hurry and hang on!"

I held out my hand and helped Link get on behind me.  Shadow released his wings and floated upwards.  I pulled on the reins of the boar and kicked its ribs as hard as I could.  The boar reared upwards and charged at the gate that was locked in front of us.  Even though it was locked the boar's strength pushed the doors wide open.  I hanged on tightly and Link hanged onto me as well. All I could hear was the wood being crashed into and soon the boar slowed down.  Sitting up I looked forward and saw the entrance of the temple.

"How you doing Link?"

"Well..I'm fine, but I almost slipped off. That boar has some strength and speed to it." He acknowledged the creature.

Link got off the creature and helped me off as well.  Shadow landed on the other side of me once I got off.

"The mirror of twilight is in that temple..Are you two ready?"

Looking at them both I saw determination in both of their eyes.

"You bet." Link said.

"We didn't come this far to turn back now." Shadow said after.

"We aren't going back! Don't you three dare go back!"

I heard Midna shout from my shadow. I smiled and nodded.

"Let's go then."

With that we all went into the temple. All I could think of was seeing Chihiro again and killing Zant. No one was going to stand in my way.
