☄The Southern Lights☄

Shiro Shinobi: Narrating on a newsreel. "The Southern Water Tribe is under siege! When Avatar Korro was attacked by a dark spirit, Chief Unalaq and Guardian Y/n were the only ones able to stop it. So, Korro turned his back on Tenzin and chose Unalaq as his new spiritual mentor. Tenzin and his family left for a vacation at the Southern Air Temple, while Korro and Y/n remained in the Water Tribe. Will Korro be able to restore balance between humans and spirits alongside Y/n?"

The Southern Water Tribe

At the Glacier Spirits festival A dark spirit appears on a nearby cliff, and looks out over the festival. While at the camel yak stables, as Korro and Y/n rides in on Naga, with Unalaq waiting for them. Korro dismounts Naga and helps Y/n down before they approaches his uncle whom is still Y/n's teacher.

Unalaq: "You're both early." He said honestly.

Korro: "What can I say? I'm pumped up to learn the way of Unalaq and Y/n spirit fighting." He said excitedly

Unalaq: He places his arm on his shoulder. "I'm not here to teach you to fight spirits nor is Y/n, I'm here to help you begin your spiritual training and farther educated on Spirits. We're going to one of the most remote places in the world, the long neglected spiritual center of your tribe: Korro, the South Pole." He said seriously.

Korro: "You're going to train me at the South Pole?" He questioned seriously confused

Unalaq: "We will do more than just train. By neglecting the spirits, the people of the South have brought darkness upon themselves, and now it threatens to destroy our tribe. We must set things right. The Southern Water Tribe depends on you and Y/n." He said seriously.

Korro: "A dangerous trip to the South Pole? Count me in!" He shouted out enthusiastically while he made Y/n laugh softly at his excitement.

The Southern Air Temple

Through the clouds; Oogi flies into shot heading for the temple, with Tenzin and his family riding on him.

Tenzin: "There it is, the Southern Air Temple. Isn't it magnificent?" He said as he guides Oogi downwards towards the Temple as two Air Acolytes, one of whom is sweeping, while the other feeds three ring-tailed lemurs. They turn in surprise as Oogi flies in, and as he lands, three Acolytes walk toward the bison, two of them carrying a large case.

Shung: "Master Tenzin, welcome!" He shouted excitedly as he greeted the family.

Tenzin: "Good to see you again, Abbot Shung." He said as He and Pema bow toward the abbot in respect.

Shung: "Is there anything you need? Water? Dandelion greens? Ahh, perhaps you'd like to recenter yourself by meditating in the gardens?" He asked Tenzin.

Tenzin: "No thank you, I'm fine." He said honestly as Shung looks towards Pema.

Shung: "And you must be the honorable Pema! Please, accept these gifts." He said as Shung reaches into the case, and pulls out an odd contraption, which he hands to Tenzin. "This is an ancient airbender head shaver we've refurbished just for you." He said honestly

Tenzin: "Oh." He said as he was unsure of how to respond. "Okay?" He wondered.

Shung: "And Pema!" He said joyously as he hands Pema a massive bouquet of flowers. "These flowers once filled the mountainside! Now, they can brighten up your room."

Pema: In a similar manner as Tenzin's response. "That's...sweet? Y-you didn't have to." She said unsure how to respond as well.

Shung: "Nonsense! Whatever you need is yours. Anything for the mother of the next generation of airbenders." He said honestly as he looks towards Jinora, Ikki and Meelo while the Acolytes give them their own gifts.

Ikki: As a female Acolyte hands a book to Jinora as a gift. "No!" She shouted out as she snatches away the book. "That gift is mine!" She yelled out.

Jinora: "You don't even like to read!" She yelled at  Ikki.

Ikki: She sticks her tongue out. "Eeeh!"

Pema: Slightly embarrassed but wearing a smile. "Yep, those are the world's next generation of airbenders." She said as her smile falters while Meelo appears from behind the three Acolytes and jumps on the abbot's back, a baby lemur held in his hands.

Meelo: "Mommy, Daddy, look! I finally got a lemur! I'm gonna name him...Poki!" He said excitedly holding a baby lemur before it flies away, and Meelo jumps down from the abbot and forms an air scooter to chase after the creature. "Poki! Come back!" He called out while Kya and Bumi are still by Oogi, unloading supplies from his saddle. Kya tosses some bags down, which hit Bumi, and he grunts. Kya drops down from on top of the sky bison, and Bumi sighs.

Bumi: He looks somewhat frustratedly at a nearby Air Acolyte. "S'cuse me, a little help here?" He asked as the Acolyte just noticing the two siblings, she turns around and stops sweeping.

Acolyte: "Sorry, I thought you were the servants." She said honestly while Bumi and Kya make angry faces at her.

Bumi: He looks even more frustrated. "We're Tenzin's older brother and sister!" He shouted out.

Acolyte: She looks shocked and then excitedly. "Avatar Aang had other children? The world is filled with more airbenders?" She asked happily.

Kya: Now looking calm, but upset. "We're not airbenders." She said honestly

Acolyte: "Oh...I'm so sorry." She said as she bows while Bumi and Kya looks a little confused, before pouting and glancing at each other.

Back at the Southern Water Tribe

Korro and Y/n can be seen saddling up Naga, as Mako helps them pack up their supplies.

Y/n: "I thought you said Bolin was coming?" She questioned her older brother since the last six months the two firebenders siblings have been not really seeing eye to eye mostly cause of Mako's overprotective nature to his only little sister.

Mako: "He said he'd be here, but I can't worry about it. I have to make sure you have everything you need for a safe trip." He said as Y/n rolled her eyes at him before leaving with Korro.

Y/n: She looks at him sarcastically, but with a smile. "Thanks, Captain Expedition, but I'll be fine." She said seriously before pulling her warm Air bison shredded fur coat over her shoulders as she said alongside Korro hears a sound and turns their heads around to see Tonraq pulling up on a snowmobile. Unalaq, who has been packing, notices Tonraq and scowls, before approaching his brother.

Unalaq: "Tonraq, what do you want?" He questioned Tonraq.

Tonraq: "I heard you're taking Korra to the South Pole." He said seriously before he crosses arms. "I'm coming."

Unalaq: "Absolutely not. You're a distraction to Korro as well Y/n and a hindrance to what needs to be done of the Avatar and the Guardian." He said seriously

Tonraq: "My son nor Y/n is not going without me! They need someone to watch after them." He said seriously as Korro rides up to them on Naga with Y/n sitting behind him.

Korro: "Dad, why do you always think you know what's best for me?" He questioned his father.

Unalaq: "Because he's misguided. The sad truth is, it's men like your father who have put the Spirit World out of balance. He's ignored my warnings in the past and hasn't learned since." He said seriously as Y/n and Korro looked at him in shock.

Korro: "What happened in the past?" He questioned

Tonraq: "It doesn't matter. What matters is the Everstorm." He said seriously as Y/n's eyes widened in fright.

Y/n: "The Everstorm? The massive blizzard that's battered the South Pole for decades?" She questioned before looking over at Unalaq as a chill past by her spine.

Tonraq: Looks to Unalaq; stubbornly. "I'm coming, unless you think you can stop me." He said seriously as he and Unalaq glare at each other. Until Tonraq looks to his left when Bolin shouts at them from a distance.

Bolin: Guys! Hey, wait for me!" He pulls up in on a snowmobile with an attached sidecar where Mako was sitting, and both were wearing a new snowsuits. As a now confused Y/n and Korro as they trail Bolin's and Mako's arrival with their eyes before turning completely to face them as Bolin pulls up next to them. "Check it out, We're traveling in style!" He said as he accidentally turns the throttle causing the vehicle to jerk forward, but promptly stops the vehicle. "Okay, uh, sorry, still getting used to that throttle." He said honestly as Mako groaned.

Y/n: "Uh, Bo, where'd you Bolin, Mako get the ride?" She asked seriously.

Bolin: "Varrick; he's awesome! He also gave me this fancy snowsuit! It's inflatable, with an internal heater, emergency beacon, and food ration pouches! I mean, if I get lost, I can survive in this thing for like, like a month!" He said as he reaches into his snowsuit. "Who wants some freeze dried cucumberquats." He asked as he pulls out several cucumberquat slices and offers them to the crowd. "Nobody?...Did I interrupt a conversation?" He questioned as Pabu pops out of Bolin's suit and eats some of the cucumberquats.

Korro: "No, the conversation is over." He said seriously before he looks towards his father. "Dad, come if you want, just don't interfere with my training." He said seriously before he rides away from the group with Y/n, as Eska gets off of her camel yak and approaches Bolin.

Eska: "Does this sidecar have the capacity for two passengers?" She questioned Bolin..

Bolin: "Sure does. But, uh...who's gonna drive?" He flirted in question towards Eska til later that night. Bolin is driving the snowmobile while Desna and Eska sit together in the sidecar as Bolin looks upset with the circumstances, and Mako rides toward the trio on a camel yak.

Mako: He looks towards Bolin before He he began to speak in a teasing tone. "Well, what do you know? Looks like--"

Bolin: "Go away, Mako." He said seriously annoyed with his older brother.

Korro: He looks over to Unalaq. "So once we get to the South Pole, then what happens?" He asked as Unalaq whom looks at Y/n and Korro.

Unalaq: "You alongside Y/n will open an ancient spirit portal." He said seriously as well honestly.

Korro: "I'm sorry, what now?" He asked seriously confused as Y/n looked equally confused.

Unalaq: "At the South Pole, there is a portal that connects our world to the Spirit World, but it has long been closed."

Korro: "And that's why the evil spirits are attacking?" He questioned.

Unalaq: "There are no evil spirits, there is light and dark in them all. But when they're unbalanced, the darkness takes over." He as the Everstorm appears in the distance, and thunder from it is heard. "If you both can open the portal in time, balance will be restored." He said honestly.

Y/n: "What do you mean...in time, Master?" She asked as her mind flashes images of her dream that she'd been having for months every hour of the night during her sleep.

Unalaq: "There's a reason the Glacier Spirits Festival ends on the winter solstice. That's when the Spirit World and the physical world are close together. Only then can the Avatar and Guardian can open the portal."

Korro: "The winter solstice is tomorrow." He said seriously towards his uncle..

Unalaq: "Exactly, and we can't afford to wait another year." He said seriously a dark spirit appears in the distance, watching the group. Naga, sensing the creature, turns toward it and starts growling.

Korro: "Easy, Naga." He said as Y/n looks ahead at the fog as it begins to clear, and the dark spirit, now joined by two others.

Bolin: Shrinking in fear. "What are those?" He questioned.

Y/n: "Dark spirits." She said seriously as the fog picks up again, hiding the spirits from view once more.

Tonraq: "Let's keep moving. We have to find a safe place to set up camp." He said seriously as he drives away and the scene cuts to a roaring fire, the group huddled around it for warmth while Y/n kept her concentration on the flames to keep it burning hot.

Korro: "Uncle, why do you think the dark spirits are following us?" He questioned as Bolin scoots next to Eska and grabs her arm.

Bolin: "Can we not talk about dark spirits, please?" He said shaking in fear.

Mako: "My brother doesn't like ghost stories." He said honestly.

Eska: "Don't worry. I will protect you, my feeble turtle duck." She said honestly as she pats his head while Y/n awes at her friend and brother.

Bolin: "Thank you." He said honestly as Y/n giggled sweetly.

Unalaq: "Sadly, this isn't a ghost story. This is real." He said as Bolin gasps and closes his hood. "The spirits are angry because he's here." He said as looks toward his brother then looks to Korro. "Haven't you ever wondered how your father ended up in the South Pole? Why he's never taken you to visit his homeland in the North?" He questioned seriously.

Tonraq: "Unalaq, this is not the time." He said seriously towards his brother.

Unalaq: "You're right. You should have told him a long time ago." He said seriously as well honestly.

Korro: "Told me what!?" He shouted out at his father seriously wanting the truth of the matter.

Tonraq: He sighs before looking over at his son. "I left the North Pole because... I was banished." He said honestly.

Korro: He looks at his father while Y/n looked aside already knowing the truth from her teacher; Unalaq. "You were banished from the North? Why?" He questioned.

Tonraq: "Because I almost destroyed the entire tribe." He said as he begins his narration, towards a younger looking Tonraq. "Twenty years ago, I was a general in the Northern Water Tribe, sworn to protect my people." He said honestly.

Young Unalaq: Rides in to young Tonraq's camp. "Brother! We're being attacked!" He shouted out as Tonraq gets upset and charges out, as the scene changes to a damaged Northern Water Tribe, several plumes of smoke visible in the distance. The scene changes to inside the city, as the people attempt to defend themselves against the barbarians. One of the barbarians is hit from behind by a stream of water, revealed to be Tonraq, who has entered the city with two other water Tribe soldiers. Tonraq bends water from a nearby river in preparation for a second attack then scene changes to outside the city, the barbarians in retreat, followed closely by Tonraq and his men.

Tonraq: "I drove them out of the city and deep into the frozen tundra.Tonraq yells as he and his men chase the barbarians." He said as a young Unalaq, who watches his older brother leave from the entrance to the city then shows Tonraq and his men, who have a reached a large forest situated in the tundra and inside the forest. "We tracked them deep into an ancient forest. Many believed this forest was the home to spirits, and the barbarians retreated there because they thought we wouldn't attack them on such hallow grounds. They thought wrong. The barbarians are shown hiding behind trees." He said as three Northern waterbenders suddenly appear and summon a large wave, which crashes into the forest and washes away many barbarians. Tonraq is shown blasting unseen barbarians with three water attacks. Next, the Northern soldiers are seen marching the captured barbarians away from the now flooded forest, which is seen in the background. "We captured the barbarians, but in the process, we destroyed the forest." He said honestly while a young Tonraq is shown awakening in his bedroom. "I didn't realize the consequences of what I had done." He said honestly as the young Tonraq jumps from his bed and runs to a window overlooking the city. "By destroying the forest, I unknowingly let loose angry spirits." He told as two tribesmen are running from a large dark spirit. Tonraq attacks the spirit with two water whips, and jumps aside when the spirit attacks with its arm. "They threatened to destroy everything, the entire city." He said as the dark spirit prepares to attack Tonraq once more, but stops as water surrounds it before glowing as Unalaq is seen waterbending while farther away where four spirits are surrounded with the same glowing water, before changing to a golden color then the spirits returning to the spirit forest before disappearing as Unalaq as he ceases his waterbending. "Unalaq was able to guide the spirits back to the forest. But by then, the damage had been done..." An aerial view of a damaged Northern Water Tribe, before changing to the throne room, where Tonraq's father is seated with Unalaq next to him, and Tonraq standing beneath a flight of stairs. "For being the cause of so much devastation, my father banished me from the Northern Water Tribe in shame." He said as Unalaq, who watches on as his brother is banished. Meanwhile outside the city, as Tonraq sails away from his home before a closer view of Tonraq, who looks down dejectedly, before turning toward the horizon. "That's when I came to the South and started a new life." He said honestly while cutting back to the present time, as Tonraq bows his head in shame. He turns around, and faces the rest of the group.

Bolin: "Whoa, so you were supposed to be chief, then he..." He gestures toward Tonraq then to Unalaq. "...became chief. No wonder you guys don't like each other" He said honestly before Mako elbows him. "Ow! What? Isn't that what happened?" He asked

Korro: He stands up in anger. "I can't believe you kept this from me!" He growled deeply towards his father.

Tonraq: "I was protecting you from the shame I brought on the family." He said honestly towards his son as Y/n tries to calm Korro down..

Korro: "Why did you keep hiding things from me and then telling me it's for my own protection? I'm tired of you protecting me!" He shouted out as he turns and walks away.

Tonraq: "Korro!" He shouted out as Y/n stops him.

Y/n: "I'll go after him, Tonraq. It's my job to protect him." She said honestly before running after Korro.

Meanwhile Back at the Southern Air Temple

Jinora and Tenzin entering the inner sanctuary, which is filled with Avatar statues.

Jinora: "Wow, the statue room." She said in amazement.

Tenzin: "That's right, Jinora, the most sacred place in the entire Southern Air Temple." He said as Jinora took a closer look of the statues, as they look up the various levels. "Here, you will find statues of every Avatar who ever lived." He said as he suddenly looks around the statue room. "Where are your brother and sister?" He questioned as Meelo and Ikki appear behind Tenzin, racing each other on air scooters. The wake from their bending causes Tenzin's robes to blow up and cover his head.

Meelo: "You can't catch me! I've the greatest air scooter-er of all time!" He shouted out before he trips over and crashes into a statue.

Tenzin: "Meelo!" He shouted out shocked as he runs to tend to his son. Jinora walks forward to the statue of her grandfather, Avatar Aang, and looks at it in awe as she looks at Aang's statue, as the two airbenders lock gazes. Before Jinora's eye, which dilates suddenly. She looks behind her but in her gaze, but there is no one there.

The Southern Water Tribe; Near the South Pole

Korro is seen riding on Naga, an angry look on his face til Y/n appears in front of him with her white fire jump while Tonraq pulls up next to his son on his snowmobile.

Tonraq: "Korro, you have every right to be mad at me. But I don't want you to make the same mistake I made. I should never have gone into that forest, and we shouldn't be going to the South Pole now. Spirits and the physical world should remain separate." He said honestly as Y/n looked at him with a 'are you serious' face.

Korro: He moves forward and turns around, intercepting his father. "Dad, it's mine and Y/n's job to be the bridge between the spirits and the physical world, and I finally have a chance to live up to my potential. Y/n could finally stop having these chaotic nightmares." He said seriously towards his father.

Tonraq: "You don't even know if what Unalaq says is true." He said sternly towards Korro and Y/n.

Unalaq: Stopping his camel between the three of them; defensively. "You want proof? Look to the sky. Where I'm from, the spirits are at peace and they light up the dark." He said as Korro and Y/n looked up at the sky.

Korro: "The Northern Lights." He said in awe

Y/n: "They're still so beautiful." She said honestly

Unalaq: "Yes. There used to be lights at the South as well, but during the Hundred Year War, the South was thrown out of balance and the lights disappeared. When the War ended, the North helped to rebuild you physically, as a nation, but we have not rebuilt you spiritually. Now the spirits no longer dance in your skies. Instead, they rampage in the Everstorm." He said seriously as Korro and Y/n look at each other now determined more then ever.

Mako: "I think we're here." He said as Y/n, Korro and Unalaq approach the edge of the cliff that Mako has stopped at til a worried Korro, who gazes at the Everstorm raging in the distance. The team in the Everstorm, their hoods up to protect their faces against the icy wind. Korro stops and looks back as he alongside Y/n heard a roaring in the distance just audible over the wind. While an aerial view of the team, as another, louder roar is heard.

Bolin: "Is that what I think it is?" He asked fearfully.

Unalaq: "We must keep moving." He said as he looks up as the angry spirits continue to roar.

Bolin: Clutches his head in complete fear.. "Oh man, I really don't like this.

Mako: "Bolin, just stay calm, there's no reason to-" He started to say until a dark spirit emerges from beneath his camel yak and grabs the supplies. "...panic!" He shouted out as another dark spirit emerges beneath Naga and lands on her face while another dark spirit grabbing Unalaq's supplies and another which grabs Korro's and Y/n's supplies. Naga stands on her hind legs, causing Korro and Y/n to fall from the saddle seat, and chases after the spirit. Korro and Y/n turn to see a flying spirit emerge. Tonraq forms an ice wall to fend off the spirit but it flies above the wall as a larger spirit which is running directly at Korro and Y/n.

Y/n: "Korro!" She yelled out as a dark spirit picked her up until Tonraq waterbends her to safety then bends Korro and her away before he attacks the spirit, but misses and is knocked aside. Another dark spirit enters Bolin's snow mobile.

Bolin: Screams out terrified. "Oh, it's in the engine!" As the engine explodes in gray smoke as the spirit exits making Bolin loses control of his snowmobile and speeds into the tundra with Desna and Eska. "Aaaahhhhh!"

Korro and Mako fighting spirits with firebending. As Korro somersaults out of the way while he tries to employs Unalaq's purifying move on one of the spirits. The spirit stops in a daze, but it manages to fight it, and pins Korro down but before the spirit can continue it's attack, it is purified by Y/n and leaves when Y/n runs over to Korro and helps him up.

Mako: "Is everyone okay?" He questioned til the firebending siblings hear Bolin's scream coming towards them.

Y/n: "Mako, do you have to jinx everything?" She said sarcastically

Bolin: "Aaaahhhhh!" He shouted out as his snowmobile, which is hurtling away from the group.  Bolin, who is holding onto the handle bars, a terrified look on his face, with Desna and Eska sat next to him, showing no emotion. "I can't stop it!" He shouted out as Eska and Desna jump off their seat and onto Bolin's back.

Eska: "I'll save you." She said as the trio is shown leaping off the snowmobile, which crashes into the cliff and explodes. Desna and Eska drop Bolin onto the snow, causing his snowsuit to inflate, revealing Pabu. "I'm a raft!" He yelled out as Desna and Eska as they cover their feet in ice and gracefully slide down the slope back to the team. Then an inflated Bolin following the twins, before he is stopped by Mako and Y/n. "Uhhh, can someone please deflate me?" Heasked as Eska deflates Bolin with three ice spikes. "Thank you." He said honestly.

Y/n: "Thanks, Essie." She said honestly towards Eska as she looked over Bolin for injuries.

Mako: Looking at their destroyed supplies. "Oh, great. There goes our equipment. Now what are we supposed to do?" He questioned.

Tonraq: "There's only one thing to do. We have to turn back." He said seriously until Unalaq shouted out..

Unalaq: "No! The solstice is tonight. And we're so close." He yelled towards his brother seriously.

Tonraq: "This mission is too dangerous. We're leaving." He said seriously until Korro roared out.

Korro: "No, Dad, you're leaving." He said as an aerial view of the team in the tundra. While Y/n and Tonraq, standing besides Tonraq's snowmobile.

Y/n: "Don't worry sir, I'll keep an eye on Korro for you." She said seriously towards Tonraq

Tonraq: "Thank you, Y/n and take care of yourself as well." He said as they hug before an irritated Korro watches Tonraq speeds off on his snowmobile.

Unalaq: Looks to Korro. "Let's open this portal and lead your father and the entire Southern Water Tribe in the right direction. We don't have much time." He said

Korro: "Then what are we waiting for?" He questioned as Korro moves forward as an irritated Bolin, sat in the remains of his damaged snowmobile, which is being pulled by a camel yak ridden on by Eska and Desna to the entire team, before switching to Korro and Y/n, who sit atop Naga. "So, what exactly were you and my dad talking about?" He questioned as Y/n looks up at him.

Y/n: "Nothing, he was just worried about you and me, that's all." She said honestly.

Korro: Still irritated. "Y'know, sometimes I wonder whose side you're on, Y/n?" He asked seriously before Y/n smacked him upside the head.

Y/n: "I'm. On. Your. Side. Dummy. But. I'm. Also. Your. Guardian!" She said seriously as she punctuates her point by punching Korro on his back with her old Pro-bending skills before they looks on to the South Pole in shock at what they were seeing.

Unalaq: "We've arrived." He announced while the team looks at the interior of the South Pole, where there are a number of trees, their trunks covered in frozen ice.

Korro: "Trees frozen in the ice." He said as Y/n climbed off of Naga looking at the trees.

Unalaq: He walks up to Korro. "It's just like the sacred forest Tonraq destroyed in the North." He said honestly

Korro: "So, what do I do?" He questioned as his uncle said.

Unalaq: "You must find your way to the heart of the forest where the dormant spirit portal lies. From here, you're both on your own." He said seriously

Mako: "Wait a second, there's no way they are going alone." He said seriously.

Bolin: "Yeah! If they go,..." He started to say as Pabu emerges from Bolin's snowsuit. "...we go, too!" He shouted out seriously.

Unalaq: "The Avatar and Guardian must go alone." He said seriously.

Korro: "But I don't have any connection with the spirits. In fact, it seems like they hate me but their not attacking Y/n." He said honestly

Unalaq: "You have to believe in yourself, like I believe in you." He said towards Korro before he turns away. "What is it?"

Korro: "I guess I'm just so used to people telling me how to do things that I forgot what it was like to have someone trust in me." He said as he smiles at his uncle.

Unalaq: "Korro, all the past Avatars live on inside of you. Let them guide you. Let them help you find the light in the dark." He said as he looks to the South Pole, a gaze which Korro follows seeing Y/n was near the forest it as it memorized her.

Korro: He looks at Mako and Bolin. "Wait here, We'll be okay and I'll protect Y/n, I swear it." He said seriously

Mako & Bolin: "Good luck." They said together as Pabu chitters as Korro walks over towards Y/n and takes hold of her hand.

Korro: "Are you ready, Y/n?" He asked honestly as well protective of her safety.

Y/n: "Yes, let's do this, Korro." She said as they walk into the South Pole, while the rest of the team looks on while inside Korro and Y/n were trudging deeper into the frozen forest with a look of uncertainty and fear on their faces. A snake-like dark spirit nears Korra and screeches, causing them to turn around.

In the distance, two dark spirits charge toward Korro and Y/n, causing them to gasp. Korro and Y/n turns and starts to run from them, but they manage to catch Korro and begin to wrap themselves around his body and legs. One of the spirits attempts to attack Korro, but Y/n defends him with a blast of fire, and frees him from the spirit wrapped around him frees himself with airbending. The spirits charge back at Y/n, but Korro stops them with an ice wall. Korro and Y/n turn from the spirits and finds themselves in a large cave, a glowing dome positioned in the center then carefully approach the glowing dome.

Korro: "The spirit portal. Amazing." He said honestly in awe.

Y/n: "It's more beautiful then the forest." She said honestly feeling a sense of calm yet warmth enveloping her form.

Later That Night Back at the Southern Air Temple

Jinora, Ikki, and Meelo are shown asleep til Jinora awakens and walks through the hall of statues in a daze. Slowly her face, as she breaks free from her daze in shock and surprise, finding herself in front of the statue of an unknown Avatar and even another person whom were holding the Avatar's hands.

Jinora: "Whoa. What Avatar is this? And is that a Guardian, there has only been records of them but never statues or carverings like this." She wondered honestly curious as she reads the inscription underneath the statue. "Where there is light, there is darkness. Where there is chaos, there is hope. Always connected good and evil, Vaatu and Raava.". By the first Avatar's Guardian: ....." She read out seeing the name was completely faded away.

Back at the Spirit Portal with Korro and Y/n

Korro: "The light in the dark." He said as he readies his stance, and subsequently punches the frozen portal with airbending, but to no effect. Korro tries to firebend at the portal, but still with no results. "Why isn't it opening?" He asked as Y/n looked at the dome to see numerous dark spirits appear outside the hub and start attacking the roof, shocking Korro and Y/n before the Avatar continuously striking the portal with airbending. "Come on portal, open! Y/n, help me out, please!" He asked as Y/n nods as she began bending her white fire onto the hub as well while the spirits as they manage to break through the roof. They charge toward Korro and Y/n while grabbing them around their waists.

Y/n: "Korro, Help me!" She shouted out afraid as Korro reached out as he looked at the scared look on her face especially as the spirits continue to tangle themselves around the pair. They start pulling Korro and Y/n up toward the roof as well apart of the cave as they repeatedly firebends at the spirit portal, but again their attacks have no effect. Korro is dragged further upward as more spirits wrap themselves around his arms, preventing him from continuing his attacks. "NO, KORRO!" She shouted out as she enters the Guardian State while Korro enters the Avatar State at Y/n's scream, allowing them both to momentarily break free and drop toward the portal, but the spirits still manage to keep a hold of them both. Korro and Y/n struggle to reach themselves til they hold each other's hands before reaching out towards the portal desperately with their hands and finally manages to touch it with their index fingers. Suddenly an orange and little blue rings forms from where Korro and Y/n touched the portal, and the ground cracks beneath them, creating a blast that tosses Korro and Y/n aside and dispels the spirits.

Deep within The South Pole: Forest

A green beam of light rises and causes the southern lights to appear in the sky, while the Everstorm finally dissipates as Korro and Y/n now were looking up at the lights.

Korro: "The spirits, dancing in the sky." He said honestly impressed as he helps Y/n up onto her feet.

Y/n: "It really is, Korro." She said honestly as a pulse of intense power shots throughout her body as her e/c flash to blue/white while unknowingly back at the Southern Air Temple was Jinora staring in surprise as the statue she found herself in front begins to glow showing a statue of a man and a woman holding their hands while a large and elegant kite like being was behind the man and woman. The team stare at the bright light that has emerged from the portal.

Mako: "I can't believe it.

Bolin: "It's beautiful." He said as he rubs his eyes while Unalaq is looking ahead with a grin.

Meanwhile Tonraq is speeding away from the spirit forest. He stops his snowmobile and looks back at the lights.

Tonraq: "They did it, together." He said proudly as Korro and Y/n walk out of the forest.

Bolin: Runs to Korro and his sister. "Hey, Korro, Y/n, you're both back." He cheered before looking to the rest of the group. "Hey, Korro and Y/n are back!" He said as he hugs Korro, but when he went to hug his sister; an ice wall separates them and brings Bolin back to face Eska.

Eska: "Why are you initiating physical contact with another woman?" She questioned as Bolin looks at Eska with a weak fearful laugh, before Eska melts the ice wall.

Y/n: "It's okay, Essie. Remember Bolin is my twin brother." She said honestly as Eska allowed Bolin to hug her tightly.

Korro: He looks to Unalaq. "Everything you said was true." He said as Y/n walked over towards them smiling.

Unalaq: "Avatar Korro and Guardian Y/n, you both have taken the first step in bringing balance back to the South, and soon the whole world." He said honestly

Y/n: She hugs Korro close before looking up at him. "You never cease to amaze me." She said honestly as she smiled

Korro: "Thanks. By the way, I'm really sorry for being a total pain. Things were really stressful and pretty confusing. It's hard being the Avatar." He said honestly making Y/n laugh.

Y/n: "It's harder being the Avatar's Guardian and girlfriend." She said jokingly as she nudges Korro before they kissed while they leave to return back to the Southern Water Tribe. Y/n, Korro, Mako, and Unalaq look out to see a number of large battleships entering the harbor as the troops marching in. While on the sea, where there are more battleships approaching the city.

Korro: "What are all your Northern troops doing here?" He questioned his uncle as Y/n glared at her teacher, while she once again feeling something was very wrong.

Unalaq: "Opening the spirit portal was only the first step in getting the Southern Water Tribe back on its righteous path. There's more difficult work to be done before our two tribes are truly united." He said seriously as Korro's unsure face, as he looks ahead at the troops then at Y/n whom was clenching her hands into fists.
