Charlie's POV:

Meredith, RJ, Ellie, and I were all leaving the beach and heading towards the dining hall for lunch.

"Onward my trusty steed." Meredith said jumping on my back for a piggy back ride.

"Onward? Really?" I said laughing. She just giggled. I looked over at RJ and Ellie and they were just smirking. You could tell they knew I liked Meredith. Well, at least RJ did.

"Here ya go." I said dropping Meredith off at her table next to her brother.

"Thanks Charlie." She said, then I walked over to my table where Zoe was already seated.

"Hey sis." I said.

"Hey bro." she said eating blue pancakes.

"So have you asked out Meredith yet." She asked suddenly. I blushed and started coughing awkwardly.

"Um-I-I don't know what you mean." I said stuttering.

"Oh please, I'm two years younger than you and even I can tell you both are madly in love with each other." She said smirking.

"Since when did my 11 year old sister get so mature." I said.

"Since I spent the day with Haley in the Aphrodite cabin." She said. Haley was one of Zoe's best friends.

"Whatever, smarty pants." I said muttering.

"Thank you for the complement." She said before taking another bite of food.

"Hey Charlie Zoe", Hunter (Clarisse and Chris' son) called, "Chiron wants to see you guys."

"Thanks man." I said as me and Zoe both headed to the big house. We walked inside to see Mr. D and Chiron in Chiron's office.

"Chiron, you asked for us." Zoe said politely.

"Yes children, some satyrs have found a demigod. The thing is he is in a different country. I was hoping you two could go help bring the kid back to camp." Chiron said. Another quest. Meredith-was-going-to-kill-me.

"How long should this quest take Chiron?" I asked hoping the answer wasn't too long.

"You should finish a few weeks before camp summer session is over." He said.

"Thank you Chiron, We won't let you down." Zoe said walking out with me following.

"Oh no" I said once we were outside.

"What?" Zoe asked.

"I kind of promised Meredith that we wouldn't have any quests this summer." I said waiting for her to yell at me. Zoe may be my younger sister but she is quite scary.

"ARE YOU KIDDING ME?! CHARLIE JACKSON YOU ARE THE ELDEST SON OF THE TWO GREATEST HEROES EVER! YOU CAN'T POSSIBLY EXPECT TO HAVE ONE SUMMER WITHOUT THE SMALLESTS OF QUESTS! ESPECIALLY AT THIS AGE!" Zoe screamed at me.

"I'm sorry. She gave me the puppy dog eyes and I couldn't say no." I said looking down.

"You do know you have to tell her right. We leave next week."She said. How she knew when we were leaving? I don't know.

"I know. I'll tell her tonight after the campfire." I said.

At the Campfire...

The Apollo cabin had just finished singing one of their songs and were about to start another when Chiron stood up and walked to the center of the amphitheater.

"Children I have news. I'm sure you all know Charlie and Zoe Jackson (cheers all around), yes well, they are both going on a small quest to retrieve a lost demigod. I hope you all wish them the best of luck as do I." Chiron finished. I panicked and looked for Meredith. I hadn't told her yet. I finally saw her running towards the beach. I stood up and ran after her.

When I had finally arrived at the beach she was sitting in the sand looking blankly at the ocean. I sighed realizing she wasn't crying, that was until I saw her wipe a stray tear from her cheek.

I walked up and sat next to her.

"I'm sorry. I was going to tell you after the campfire. I didn't know he was going to announce it." I said looking down.

"I get it Charlie. You don't have control over it, but I was just hoping for once that the fact my best friend the great Charlie Jackson wasn't going to change my summer." she said starting to get angry.

"I'm so sorry Meredith." I said.

"No, I'm sorry that a calm summer at Camp Half-Blood isn't good enough for the Adventerous Charlie. I'm sorry that you couldn't resist another quest for fame. I'm sorry that I even made you promise that you would be here for the whole summer. But congrats Charlie you made it 6 hours without breaking the promise." She said then walked away. I sank into the sand and put my head in my hands groaning.

Why couldn't I be just a plain old normal demigod? Actually, why couldn't I just be a plain old normal mortal?
