Life Goes On
Author's POV
Alveera arrived at her house in Bangalore and got settled. She was back there after almost 5 years. She had left right after graduating her 12th standard as she moved to Mumbai to complete her undergrads. She felt nice after coming back home.
Sleeping in her old room felt familiar. The twinkling fairy lights over her bed still made her feel like she was lying under a starry sky. She felt like a little girl again as her parents pampered her and made her eat a lot! All these things made her almost forget about Zaid. But every night, she cried in her bed. She missed him. She really thought he was the one. But alas! She had not seen Zaid in a long time. They didn't speak or anything. She had no idea where he was or how he was doing.
The only thing she could do, was see a picture of theirs from the graduation ceremony. The one that Gia took while Zaid swirled her around by her waist. That had been Alveera's most prized possession as she kept it close. She knew that she wanted him back, but didn't know how she was going to do it. Especially here in Bangalore.
Al tried her best to be okay. So she went out with her family, ate a lot of food and tried to distract herself in her short stay in Bangalore. She was leaving the place in a week because she had a job in Mumbai. Moreover, she needed to fix her new apartment, get new furniture, crockeries etc. Yes, she had learnt how to cook in her stay in Philadelphia.
Zaid on the other hand was busy with his new deal with Grey Oak publishers. His manager and now girlfriend Anousha had fixed this gig for him and he was ecstatic. He had already started working on his new novel.
On a personal note, Zaid looked happy with Anousha. She took care of him and showered him with love, something he always wanted. However, a part of him still thought about Alveera time to time. She was the one that got away. Even Zaid agreed that she was the one at one point.
However, busy schedules and different time zones got the best of them. Alveera got too busy, Zaid got too annoyed at being taken for granted. It was neither's fault, yet, each blamed the other a little, for their failed relationship.
Zaid blamed Alveera a little more, perhaps. It made all the sense in the world. Zaid was immensely invested in her while she was busy doing her thing. Even Alveera would agree that maybe, just maybe she actually took him for granted. A part of Alveera was aware of that and thus, she felt guilty from time to time. However, she expected him to understand. It wasn't an unreasonable request really. Life changes when one moves to a different country. Zaid should've given Alveera the benefit of the doubt according to her.
Both of them held their ends strongly, making the relationship lose. They tried, but failed and realized that it was best that they both went their separate ways. It hurt, but it was necessary.
Did feelings still exist from Zaid's side though? It seemed unlikely. He had a girlfriend he really liked, who was everything he ever wanted. He seemed alright.
Zaid's POV
"Anu, do you have to leave?" I asked
"Yes, I do, the publishers need to see your manuscript, I mean whatever you've written until now to see if they have made a good investment," she replied.
"They've seen my last book toh, and they agreed, do you have to go all the way to Bangalore to meet them? We could mail this to them," I said.
"Yes, but some negotiations need to be made about your contract with them, so I have to go," she said, as she finished packing her bag for her weekend long trip to Bangalore.
Grey Oak publishers had their head office there and Anu needed to get there to finish up some work. I didn't usually like it when she left. I liked having her around. But this was work, so there was no compromising from her side.
"Zaid, keep writing," she said with a smile,"we need to make more money"
Later that night, I drove her to the airport and from there, she took off for Bangalore.
Alveera's POV
"Aloo, when is your flight to Mumbai?" Asked Shaheen.
"In three days di," I replied," do you want to do something in the meantime?"
"No man, I just want to spend some time with you," she replied," how have you been holding up about Zaid?"
"I'm fine Di, I have to really focus on myself, this job is really important for me, finally I've got an opportunity to prove myself, so I will," I said.
"You've already proven yourself Aloo, we are so proud of you, but are you happy?" She asked.
"Yes di, I'm happy, why wouldn't I be? You guys are here and I missed you guys immensely. So please, just let me take this all in," I replied.
Shaheen hugged me tight. The hug felt so good. I wasn't really okay, so that made me feel AMAZING!
"Did you speak to Gia?" She asked.
"Yes, I've spoken to her, she will be helping me out with the apartment," I replied.
"How is she?" She asked.
"She's doing well, she's doing great at her new job," I replied.
"That sounds great, do you want me to turn the lights off?" She asked as she got up to leave.
"Yes please, I'll go to sleep, it's 2 am already," I replied.
"Oh God yeah, okay, bye babe," she replied and then left.
I fell asleep almost Immediately. Mom and Shaheen planned to take me out shopping so I decided to get as much rest as I could before it. Had you known them, you'd know what I meant. These two ladies were slave drivers when it came to shopping. So, I needed the rest.
