Chapter 4: late

The light from the window was more blinding than usual. My phone was wildly vibrating on my desk. I sleepily tried to look for my wall clock but my head was too heavy to move and I snuggled deeper inside my comforter. The phone vibrated again, then it dawned on me, that it was set on silent the whole night.

I jolted awake and grabbed my phone from my desk, it was already 10 am, I forgot to set my alarm again, I had already missed my morning class in Economics. My friend Himouro Takahashi was already calling me from University. I cleared my throat hoping my voice won't reveal I slept in.

"Hello? what's up?" I said to my phone. My mind still barely starting up and fighting a battle between my other half to sleep in the day or attend the rest of my class in the afternoon.

"Hey Itsuki, where are you?" Himouro asked "Nakamura-san invited us to a mixer at Roppongi later, are you coming? It's kind of weird for you to skip class on the last day before winter break"

"Let's talk later when I get to Keio, I had to go somewhere important," I said to Himouro

"Ok, whatever Itsuki, just meet me at Shinagawa Station for lunch later I'm meeting with some of the girls from class." Himouro disconnected and the silence filled my room.

I debated if I should take a quick bath or just my face and go, then I remembered the Mixer. I hurriedly turned on the water heater. It was going to take at least half an hour for the water to heat up so I busied myself with my phone.

My mom had sent me a message asking me if I was coming home to Fukuoka for the winter break, I wanted to call her but I checked the time, it was almost eleven now, and she is probably running her morning errands. I replied to her that I'm still thinking about it. Going home was expensive by train or airplane, if my parents are paying for it then I probably will.

My timer rang in the corner, I swiftly walked to my bathroom and the water heater was ready. I hurriedly prepared for my classes. Just another routine day, except it, started late.
