Chapter 16: The Apartment

I was standing in the middle of the room trying to look for my clothes when I heard the faint tone of the doorbell from the front door. I slowly opened the bedroom door that leads to the living room and kitchen. I was confused at nervous at the same time. Who could that be at the door? I was hoping it was the resident of this sizeable apartment but if the person lived here why would they ring the bell? My mind was debating itself with a hundred possibilities, maybe they forgot the key, or maybe just a mailman.

I was spurred out of my indecision when the doorbell rang again. I tried to fix myself as best as I can but I still looked disheveled. In my rush, I forgot to look at the peephole and opened the door right away.

As I opened the door, three things happened all at once, I could see Akari grasp with surprise, Kanna jumping out of the bathroom clad in a skimpy towel and even more surprised and me holding the door open frozen in equal surprise.

As if in slow motion, I could see Akari's eyes dart from me, in ill-fitting clothes to Kanna who has almost no clothes on and I could see the spark of apprehension in her eyes. I wanted to explain but no thoughts formed in my mind, I didn't know what to explain.

After a couple of tense seconds, Akari broke the silence by saying,

"I have to go," and with that shoved the two Starbucks coffee to my chest and hurriedly walked away.
