When I first heard of the so-called disease that could kill in just a few days, I just laughed. They said that boils would spread all over the victim's body, that whoever touched the person or their things would catch the disease. Who would even believe such a wild tale?
 But then, some people that were at the marketplace daily, whether selling or buying, stopped coming. I heard that they had died from the disease. That's when I started to get just the slightest bit worried.

The very same day, a man came up to me and quickly spluttered, "Stay away from anyone and their things that are inflicted by this new disease. You could die within a few days. Trust me. I've seen it with my own two eyes."
Then he left and disappeared into the crowd of people on the streets.

After a week or so, news was clear: the disease spreading across Europe was not just a rumor. It was real.
