*The Doctor Dances*

!EDITED!

A/N: was 8889 words, is now 11251! Enjoy! :D

"Mummy! Mummy! Mummy!"

"Go to your room," the Doctor says sternly and I frown when the patients stop within touching distance of us. "Go to your room!" he repeats, raising his voice and the patients cock their heads to the side, considering him. "I mean it! I am very, very angry with you! I am very, very cross! Go! To! Your! Room!" he points violently to the side.

I watch in shock as the patients lower their heads and shuffle off to their beds as if they'd just been told off by their father. Rose and I slump against each other as they lay down, going back to being immobile.

"I'm really glad that worked! Those would've been terrible last words!" the Doctor laughs.

I turn the Doctor around and wrapping my arms around his waist, breathing in as I listen to his twin hearts and he wraps his arms around my shoulders. "You're a complete idiot," I tell him, making him chuckle as he squeezes me briefly.

"Oi, I want some attention," Rose pouts teasingly, making me snort and grab her arm to yank her into the hug as well.

"Needy," the Doctor laughs, hugging us both tightly.

"At least I don't blush whenever you hug me," Rose snorts, poking my pink cheek.

"I hate you both," I wriggle out of the hug as they laugh.

"No, you don't," they both reply, laughing even more and pulling away while the Doctor gives Rose a quick recap of what's been going on.

I roll my eyes and turn to Jack, who was looking a bit uncomfortable and out a place as he watches us. "I guess I'm glad you didn't get turned into a gas-mask zombie," I sigh, folding my arms.

"Wow... thanks, kitten," Jack rolls his eyes. "Really feeling the love," he scoffs.

"Kitten?" I raise an eyebrow and he gestures to my shirt. "Oh, ha, ha, very clever," I smile despite myself.

***

Rose was examining one of the patients, Jack was settled down in the chair that Doctor Constantine had been sat in - he'd gone to a bed with the rest of the gas-mask zombies. The Doctor was standing in front of the dest with his arms folded as he glares down at the Captain and I was leaning against him with my hands around his bicep to keep my self upright and somewhat awake.

"Why are they all wearing gas-masks?" Rose asks, coming back over.

"They're not, those masks are flesh and bone," Jack answers and I cringe when I remember Doctor Constantine's moans of pain as his face morphed into a gas-mask.

"How was your con supposed to work?" the Doctor asks, ignoring the patients for now.

"Simple enough, really," Jack shrugs, putting his feet up on the desk and crossing his ankles. "Find some harmless piece of space-junk, let the nearest Time Agent track it back to Earth, convince him it's valuable and name a price. When he's put fifty percent upfront, oops! A German bomb falls on it, destroys it forever. He never gets to see what he's paid for; never knows he's been had. I buy him a drink with his own money and we discuss dumb luck," he explains. "The perfect self-cleaning con," he smiles.

"Oh, yeah, absolutely perfect," I scoff sleepily.

"The London Blitz is great for self-cleaners," Jack shrugs. "Pompeii's nice if you want to make a vacation of it though, but you've got to set your alarm for volcano day," he laughs and the Doctor, Rose, and I send him matching glares. "Getting a hint of disapproval," he shifts uncomfortably.

"Yay, another perceptive pretty boy," I groan miserably. "Can we leave this one before he gets a hole in his head?" I look up at the Doctor, his lips twitching up and Rose covers her laugh with a cough.

"Hole in my head?" Jack frowns. "Don't know what the hell you mean, but isn't that a little harsh?"

"Take a look around the room," the Doctor raises a cool eyebrow at him. "This is what your 'harmless piece of space-junk' did," he glares.

"It was a burnt-out medical transporter, it was empty," Jack insists.

I get a wave of anger while the Doctor turns and starts to walk out of the room, me stumbling after him as my hands were still around his arm. "Noooo!" I whine dramatically, wanting nothing more than my bed on the TARDIS; it was so soft and always just a bit cool.

"Come on, tiny," the Doctor chuckles, taking my hands from his arm so he could wrap it around my shoulders. "Rose!" he calls over his shoulder.

"We getting out of here?" Rose asks, running over to stand on the other side of the Doctor.

"We're going upstairs," he replies, pointing up with his free hand.

"Stairs!" I groan like it's the worst thing in the world. "You really don't like me, do you? I thought we were friends," I pout up at the Doctor.

"Stop your moaning," he rolls his eyes with a small smile.

"Tired?" Rose asks, laughing.

"Yeah," the Doctor snorts.

"Not my fault I was kept up! 'Come on, Lizzie, it's got hundred-foot frozen waves!' How was I supposed to say no to that?"

Jack, who was still going on about his innocence, rose his voice as he runs up behind us, "I even programmed the flight computer so it wouldn't land on anything living! I harmed no one! I don't know what's happening here, but believe me, I had nothing to do with it!" he insists desperately.

"I'll tell you what's happening," the Doctor grits his teeth, turning us to Jack as anger washes over me again. "You forgot to set your alarm clock! It's volcano day!" he grinds out just as another siren goes off.

"What's that?" Rose frowns, looking up at the ceiling.

"The all-clear," Jack answers.

"I wish," the Doctor scoffs, pulling me from the ward.

"When we get back to the TARDIS, I'm sleeping for a week and there's nothing you can do about it," I mutter, poking his side.

"Noted," he smiles.

***

The Doctor had pulled me up the stairs behind him, me tripping over my own feet which he found pretty amusing; the bastard. We were at the door for room 802, Jamie's room, and it was locked up.

"Mr. Spock? Kitten?" Jack calls from down a few flights of stairs, making me giggle while the Doctor scowls.

"Lizzie? Doctor?" Rose calls.

The Doctor looks over the railing, "have you got a blaster?" he calls down.

"Sure!" I hear Jack shout happily.

"What's wrong with your sonic?" I frown up at him.

"Nothing," he waves me off.

"Then why are you-" I'm cut off by him putting his hand over my mouth and moving me so that my back was against his chest, making me huff as I fold my arms and lean back against him.

The Doctor smiles when Rose and Jack make it up the stairs, "the night your space-junk landed someone was hurt, this was where they were taken," he nods to the door, acting as if this was completely normal.

"What happened?" Rose asks and then eyes our situation. "Why are you holding Lizzie with your hand over her mouth?" she frowns.

"She was getting mouthy," he shrugs, making her snort and I lean my head back so I can glare at him. "Let's find out what happened, then? Get it open," he orders Jack.

Jack looks between the three of us as if we're totally mad before shrugging. With a grin, he pulls out a blaster and points it at the door. Rose clears her throat after she's done snickering, "what's wrong with your sonic screwdriver?" she whispers so only the Doctor and I can hear.

"Nothing," he gives her the same answer as me, finally letting me go.

"Arse," I glare at him, Rose going back to snickering.

"Language, please," he sighs.

"Get a new companion if you don't want to hear cursing," I shrug.

The door squeaking makes me look over to see that Jack's blaster had cut out a square hole where the handle had been. "Sonic blaster, fifty-first century," the Doctor folds his arms. "Weapons Factory of Villengard?"

"You've been to the factories?" Jack asks, his eyes widening slightly in shock while Rose and I share a look, trying not to laugh.

"Once," the Doctor shrugs, taking the blaster from Jack to examine it.

"Well, they're gone now; destroyed," Jack shakes his head. "The main reactor went critical and vaporized the lot," he explains.

"Like I said: once," the Doctor smirks, handing the blaster back. "There's a banana grove there now, I like bananas; bananas are good!" he smiles.

"We still have bananas in the cupboards," I shake my head, giggling. "It's a good thing the TARDIS is helping keep them ripe... ooo, maybe I'll make some banana-nut muffins when we get back!" I smile.

"After your week nap?" the Doctor asks, holding the door open for me.

"Yup," I nod, walking into the room.

I stop in my tracks at the trashed room; there was an outside office with a viewing window into the next room, except the viewing window was smashed. I look at it, frowning slightly... the way the glass was littered on the floor, Jamie had busted out of here. I go into the next room; it was dark and there were kids toys all over the floor and drawings in crayon of a woman on the walls. My heart aches at the sight and I see a small teddy-bear on the floor, torn up and dirty. I walk back into the main room, the Doctor taking my hand in his and he gives it a gentle squeeze. "What do you think?" he asks Jack as he and Rose come in.

"Something got out of here..." Jack trails off, looking around in shock.

"Yeah? And?" the Doctor prompts.

"Something powerful, angry," Jack notes.

"Powerful and angry," the Doctor muses.

"Not something," I shake my head, tears welling up. "A child... Jamie," I say firmly.

"I suppose that explains 'mummy'," Jack comments, going into the next room. "How do you know his name?" he asks, looking back at me.

"We met his sister, Nancy," I mutter.

"How could a child do this?" Rose frowns, stepping in after him with me behind her.

'Do you know where you are?' Doctor's Constatine's voice goes through the room and I look over to see the Doctor had turned on a tape recorder in the main room.

'Are you my mummy?' Jamie asks.

'Are you aware of what's around you? Can you... see?'

'Are you my mummy?'

'What do you want? Do you know-'

'I want my mummy! Are you my mummy? I want my mummy! Are you my mummy? Are you my mummy? Mummy? Muuumm-my?'

"Lizzie, Doctor... I've heard this voice before," Rose whispers shakily.

"Us too," the Doctor nods, squeezing my shoulder as he passes me, beginning to pace the room.

'Mummy?'

"Always 'are you my mummy?' Like he doesn't know," she frowns, her voice thick.

'Mummy?'

"Why doesn't he know?"

'Are you there, mummy? Mummy? Muuummm-my? Please, mummy? Mummy?'

I pull Rose into my arms, both of us affected by the child's voice while Jack just stands there with a slightly horrified expression. "Doctor?" I ask, seeing him still pacing and in deep thought.

"Can you sense it?" he shoots back, making me frown.

"What are you talking about?"

"Sense what?" Jack asks.

"Coming out of the walls! Can you feel it?" he asks, getting no answer in return so he looks at us incredulously, "funny little Human brains, how do you get around in those things?" he scoffs lightly, going back to his pacing.

"Don't listen to him," I glare at the Doctor, letting go of Rose. "When he's stressed, he likes to insult species," I explain to Jack.

"Lizzie, I'm thinking," the Doctor scolds.

"Cuts himself shaving," I ignore him, making Jack smile and Rose snicker quietly. "He does half an hour on lifeforms he's cleverer than-"

"There are these children living rough round the bomb site," the Doctor cuts in. "They come out during air-raids looking for food."

'Mummy, please?'

"Suppose they were there when this thing, whatever it was, landed?" he muses, trying to put everything together.

"It was a med-ship, it was harmless," Jack insists, yet again.

"It obviously wasn't," I roll my eyes. "So, then Jamie was hit and he was affected, altered?"

"Altered how?" Rose frowns.

"I don't know," I shake my head. "But why is he able to get up and move about when the other gas-mask zombies are immobile? ... well, until they aren't," I mutter.

"Good question," the Doctor nods. "Is he like a leader? Since he was the first one affected by it?"

"It'd make sense," I shrug, folding my arms. "Everyone was turned after they touched him and he seems more powerful than them... that could just be because he's been changed for longer, though..."

"And they all started moving about at the same time like they've got a hive-mind or something," the Doctor murmurs. "All of them calling out for their mummies..."

"Lizzie?" Rose whispers.

"He's afraid, terribly afraid and powerful; he doesn't know it yet, but he will do," he gives a small laugh. "He's got the power of a god, and I just sent him to his room..." he grins and my stomach sinks in realization.

"I'm here! Can't you see me?" I hear Jamie and freeze, turning to see him standing just outside the window and staring at us.

"Doctor..." I whisper, reaching to grip Rose's hand.

"What's that noise?" she asks warily, no one else seeing Jamie.

"End of the tape... it ran out thirty seconds ago," the Doctor replies, a pang of fear hitting me.

"I'm here, now! Can't you see me?"

"Doctor!" I whimper slightly.

"I know..." he murmurs.

"What?" Jack frowns.

"I sent him to his room... this is his room," the Doctor replies and the three of them spin around to see Jamie.

"Are you my mummy?" he asks and then tilts his head, staring directly at me. "Mummy?"

"Doctor?" Rose asks warily as I move her behind me.

"Ok... on my signal... make for the door," Jack orders quietly. "Now!" he violently pulls out a banana and aims it at Jamie, Rose and I both looking at it in shock.

(a/n: had to keep this picture in, just look at the Doctor's smile!)

The Doctor, with a proud grin, takes out Jack's blaster and cuts a huge hole in the wall beside us, "go! Now! Don't drop the banana!" he shouts, pushing Rose and me through the hole.

"Why not!?" Jack asks incredulously, jumping through the hole after us.

"Good source of potassium!" the Doctor replies, the last one to come through.

"Give me that!" Jack snatches the blaster from the Doctor.

"Are you my mummy?" Jamie starts to walk toward the hole, but Jack uses his blaster to replace the wall like it never happened.

"Digital rewind," he explains, tossing the banana to the Doctor. "Nice switch," he rolls his eyes.

"It's from the Groves of Villengard, I thought it was appropriate," the Doctor shrugs, slipping it into his pocket.

I roll my eyes, "yes, because it's 'appropriate' when we're getting chased by a powerful gas-mask child to switch a weapon that could help us with a bloody banana," I sigh.

"Cheeky," he nudges my side with his hand, making me squeak when it tickles.

"Meanie," I pout, folding my arms.

Rose's groan of annoyance cuts off the Doctor, "God, not now! Is it really the time," she gives us a pointed look and I blush, the Doctor clearing his throat awkwardly.

"Hold up," Jack cuts in. "There's really a banana grove in the heart of Villegard and you did that?" he asks, looking between the three of us.

"He did," Rose and I reply, pointing up at the Doctor.

"Bananas are good," the Doctor smiles widely, making me giggle.

Rose and I scream, grabbing hold of each other when there's a loud crack from the wall. Jamie had punched the cement wall and there were large cracks splintering out from where his fist had made contact. "Doctor!" we both shout.

"Come on!" the Doctor shouts, grabbing one of my hand and pulling Rose and me down the corridor.

The three of us and Jack run down the corridor before skidding to a stop when we almost run into more patients bursting from the other wards. They were all calling 'mummy' and shuffling toward us. The four of us run back where we came from to find gas-mask zombies coming from the other direction as well. I jump, my hands tightening around the Doctor and Rose's when Jamie hits the wall again. "He's keeping us here so he can get at us," I groan.

Jack takes out his blaster and points it in either direction, "it's controlling them?"

"He is them," I correct.

"He's every living thing in this hospital," the Doctor nods, looking around for a way out.

"Ok," Jack aims in one direction, the Doctor facing the other so that they were shielding Rose and me. "This can function as a sonic blaster, a sonic cannon, and a triple-enfolded sonic disrupter," he fires off quickly. "Doc, what you got?"

"Don't you dare," the Doctor gives me a sharp look when I snort loudly and I send him an innocent smile. "I've got a sonic, um..." he trails off as he pulls the sonic out and looks at it. "Oh, never mind," he shakes his head.

"What?"

"It's sonic, ok? Let's leave it at that," the Doctor waves off, aiming his sonic at the patients and Rose and I share a look, both rolling our eyes.

"Disrupter? Cannon? What?"

"It's sonic! Totally sonic! I am sonic-ed up!"

"A sonic what!?"

"Oh, honestly," I roll my eyes. "It's a screwdriver!"

Jack spins around to stare at the Doctor incredulously just as Jamie breaks through the wall and starts to climb through. Rose grabs a hold of Jack's wrist and makes him aim the blaster at the floor, "going down!" she blasts the floor.

I scream as we fall, hitting my elbow hard when we land. Jack scrambles to sit up and activates the digital rewind on his blaster, closing the hole in the now ceiling.

"Lizzie, Doctor, are you ok?" Rose asks, sitting up.

"Yeah, are you?" I call, wincing when I try to move; it is not fun feeling twice the pain. "Doctor?"

"I'm good," Rose breathes out.

"Jack?"

"Good, thanks!"

"Could've used a warning..." the Doctor grumbles.

"Oh, the gratitude," Rose huffs.

I try to sit up, whimpering slightly when I lean on my elbow a bit too much and I hear the Doctor hiss in pain. His hand is suddenly in my face and I look up at him, "let me see," he wiggles his fingers.

"I'm fine," I wave off, letting him pull me to my feet.

"Who has a sonic screwdriver?" Jack cuts in incredulously.

"I do," the Doctor retorts, not looking at him. "Let me see," he gives me a pointed look.

I sigh, slipping my jacket off and holding out my arm for him. The two of us wince when he prods my elbow and then he scans it with the sonic. "It's just bruised," he smiles, ruffling my hair.

"Oi, now I've got to redo it!" I whine and he chuckles. "And I told you I was fine! Happy?"

"Very," he gives me a dorky grin, making me snort quietly.

"Who looks at a screwdriver and thinks 'ooh, this could be a little more sonic'?" Jack asks, obviously not done with the subject.

"What? You've never been bored?" the Doctor turns to him, annoyed and indignant while I put my jacket back on and fix my hair, being careful of my arm. "Never had a long night? Never had a lot of cabinets to put up?"

"I thought it didn't do wood?" I ask, not being able to help myself; I knew it would work with screws and things, but his groan of annoyance and Jack's laugh were more than worth it.

Lights suddenly flood the room and I see patients in the room sit up in their bed, all calling 'mummy'. Rose, who had her hand hovering over the light-switch was staring at them in shock. "I'm sorry," she squeaks, hurrying over to me.

"Door," Jack calls and the four of us rush to the door as he tries to blast it open when we find it's locked, but it doesn't work. "Dammit!" he hits it on the side of his hand and moves out of the way so the Doctor could sonic it open. "It's the special features, they really drain the battery," he complains.

"The battery!?" Rose scoffs as we head into the other room. "That's so lame," she rolls her eyes.

The Doctor slams the door shut when we're all through and locks it back up with the sonic. I look around, seeing we're in some sort of storage room while Jack slumps down in a wheelchair, "I was gonna send for another one but somebody's got to blow up the factory," he glares at the Doctor.

"Oh, I know," Rose smiles, sitting down on a desk. "First day I met him, he blew up my job!"

"I was attacked by a dummy arm," I smile, sitting in a wheelchair beside Jack.

"That's practically how he communicates," Rose laughs.

"Ok, that door should how it for a bit," the Doctor nods to the door, stepping into the room fully.

"The door? The wall didn't stop it!" Jack scoffs.

"He's got to find us, though," I retort.

"Exactly," the Doctor smiles. "Now, come on! Assets! Assets!"

"Well... I've got a banana and in a pinch, you could put up some shelves," Jack rolls his eyes.

"Window," the Doctor offers, rushing over and hopping on the bench to look through it.

"Barred, sheer drop outside, seven stories," Jack shakes his head.

"And no other exits," Rose puts in.

"Well, the assets conversation went in a flash, didn't it?" Jack rolls his eyes.

"Are you always this cheery?" I raise an eyebrow.

"So," the Doctor cuts in, turning to Rose. "Where'd you pick this one up, then?"

"Doctor..." she sighs.

"She was hanging from a barrage balloon and I had an invisible spaceship," Jack mutters.

"What!?" the Doctor and I stare at her.

"A barrage balloon!"

"Oh... yeah... I sort of had a bit of a... sky view of the Blitz?" she laughs nervously.

"Oh, my God!" I rush over and check her over. "And you just had to wear that shirt today? You're like a big ol' blow me up sign!"

"I'm fine, Jack saved me," she waves off.

I turn to ask him a question and frown, seeing the wheelchair empty, "Jack's gone..." I mutter.

***

After a while, we had found different spots in the room to lounge in; the Doctor in a chair, Rose laying on the bench, and me leaning on the back of the Doctor's chair. I reach into his pocket and frown, "why are your pockets bigger on the inside, too? Is that some weird Time Lord thing? Everything's got to be interdimensionaly transcendental?" I huff, searching his massive pocket.

"... what are you doing?" he asks, giving me an amused smile.

"Looking for..." I grin as I find it and pull it out. "This, ha!" I show him the banana triumphantly.

"What are you gonna do with that?" he chuckles.

"Eat it, duh," I roll my eyes. "I'm tired cause I was kept up for two days," I give him and Rose pointed looks, both of them snickering. "And I'm hungry since Nancy took our food, at least I can do something about one of those things," I shrug, peeling the banana and handing him a piece. "Besides, bananas are good," I smile widely, leaning back and giving Rose a piece as well while the Doctor laughs quietly.

"Why don't you get some rest while we're trapped here?" he suggests.

"Then I'll be all sluggish when we need to move... I'll be good for a few more hours," I shrug.

"So, are we not gonna talk about how Jack just vanished into thin air?" Rose asks, pulling her knees up.

"I'm not too worried about it," the Doctor rolls his eyes.

Rose sighs heavily, "why is it always the great looking ones who do that?" she sends me a wink, making me frown.

The Doctor looks at her, "I'm making an effort not to be insulted," he grumbles.

"Don't know why, you're great looking," I shrug, making the Doctor look back at me quickly and I freeze. "U-um... I... I s-said that out- out loud didn't I?"

"Yes," Rose snickers. "Yes, you did," she nudges me with her foot.

"Just- just ignore me while I die now," I groan when the Doctor smirks, making me cover my burning face.

I sigh in relief when they're distracted by a radio in the room turning on. "Rose? Kitten? Doctor?" Jack's voice comes through it. "Can you hear me?"

The Doctor, Rose, and I move over to the radio. "I'm back on my ship, used the emergency teleport," Jack tells us. "Sorry I couldn't take you; it's security-keyed to my molecular structure," he explains. "I'm working on it!"

"How're you speaking to us?" the Doctor asks, showing Rose and me the frayed radio wires.

"Om-com; I can call anything with a speaker grille," he answers.

"Now there's a coincidence," the Doctor comments.

"What is?"

"Jamie can om-comm, too," I tell him.

"He can?" Rose frowns.

"Anything with a speaker grille, even the TARDIS phone," the Doctor nods.

"Also a really creepy monkey toy," I mutter, shuddering slightly.

"What? You mean the child can phone us?" Rose asks.

'And I can hear you!' Jamie's voice comes over the radio in a sing-song tone, making a chill run up my spine. 'Coming to find you! Coming to fiiinnnd you!'

"You guys hear that?" Jack calls.

"Loud and clear," the Doctor replies.

"I'll try to block out the signal, least I can do," Jack tells us.

'Coming to find you, mummy!'

"Remember this one, Rose?"

'Moonlight Serenade' by Glenn Miller starts to play through the radio and I raise an eyebrow at Rose. She smiles, shaking her head, "our song," she snorts.

"He's got good taste in music, at least," I smile.

"Thank you, kitten," he calls over the song and his tone practically screams cocky smirk. "Maybe you and I can dance to this later?"

"In your dreams, captain," I snort.

"You'll come around," he assures me.

I hear a scoff behind me and get a pang of anger. Frowning, I turn to see the Doctor moving across the room and he hops on the bench to start messing with the window. I look at Rose and she mouths 'jealous', making me roll my eyes. Why would he be jealous? It's not like we're together and it's not like he fancies me. I mean... I wouldn't say no if he asked me on a date, but does he even do that sort of thing? He's nine hundred and an alien! I'm just a twenty-two-year-old Human, what could he possibly see in me?

***

Rose had taken up a wheelchair and was moving around on the back wheels. The Doctor had gone silent and was using the sonic on the window. I was sitting on one of the desks and sketching, kicking my feet back and forth. Rose spins the wheelchair to face the Doctor, "what are you doing?"

"Trying to set up a resonation pattern in the concrete; loosen the bars," he replies.

"You don't think he's coming back," I put my sketch-book up, rolling my eyes. "Do you?"

"Wouldn't bet my life," he scoffs.

"Why don't you trust him?" Rose asks curiously.

"Why do you?" he shoots right back.

"Saved my life; bloke-wise, that's up there with flossing," she smirks, making me snort loudly but not getting anything from the Doctor. "... I trust him cause he's like you, except with dating and dancing," she shrugs and the Doctor sends her a look that I don't see. "What?" she sits up straighter.

"You just assume I'm..." he trails off, glancing at me before turning back to the window, making me frown as I look between him and Rose.

"What?" Rose smiles widely.

"You just assume that I don't... dance..." he murmurs and my eyes widen at the way he says dance... is he saying?

"What? Are you telling me you do dance?"

"Nine hundred years old, me! I've been around a bit," he scoffs. "I think you can assume that at some point I've danced..." he grumbles.

Rose covers up her mouth to stop a laugh, "you!?"

"Problem?" he asks, a pang of annoyance hitting me.

Rose stifles her giggles, "doesn't the universe implode or something if you dance?"

"Well, I've got the moves, but I wouldn't want to boast," he replies nonchalantly, making my eyes widen and I bite my lip to keep from saying anything.

Rose, with a huge grin, gets up and walks over to the radio, "you've got moves?" she asks and I frown; what is she... "Show us your moves," she grins, turning the volume up and my eyes widen further.

The Doctor turns to Rose with a frown and she sends him a wink, making him look at me quickly, "Rose, I'm... I'm trying to resonate concrete," he shakes his head.

"Jack'll be back," Rose rolls her eyes and goes over to the Doctor, holding her hand out to him. "So, come on, the world doesn't end cause the Doctor dances," she teases and he just stares at her with raised eyebrows. "... just so you know, Lizzie loves dancing," she smirks back at me, wiggling her eyebrows and I shake my head furiously.

The Doctor turns to me, his eyebrows furrowed slightly before his expression changes to something I can't read. I watch in stunned silence as he hops off the ledge and Rose grins, taking his hand and dragging him over to me. I slide off the desk when he reaches me, biting my lip as my heart races in my chest and my face burns. The Doctor sends me a small smile, taking my hands and stepping closer to me. He frowns, though, looking to Rose over his shoulder, "... barrage balloon?"

"W-what?" I frown, the odd question not helping my flustered state at all.

The Doctor lets go of my right hand and gives the left a gentle, calming squeeze as he takes one of Rose's hands in his free one. "You were hanging from a barrage balloon," he reminds her, examining her palm.

"Yeah," Rose nods. "About two minutes after you two left me; thousands of feet above London, middle of a German air-raid, Union Flag all over my chest," she smiles.

The Doctor rolls his eyes with a smile, "I've traveled with a lot of people, but you're setting new records for jeopardy-friendly," he teases, making me snort as I ease up a bit.

"Is this you dancing? Cause I've got notes," Rose raises her eyebrows. "Like, for starters: hold the hand of your partner, not her sister's," she moves his hand back to mine while I bite down on my lip harder, sending her a glare to which she just smiles innocently.

"Hanging from a rope a thousand feet above London; not a cut, not a bruise," he murmurs with a slight frown, just holding my hands as we stand there.

"Yeah, I know," Rose smiles, holding her hands up to look at them. "Captain Jack fixed me up!"

"Oh, we're calling him Captain Jack now, are we?" the Doctor rolls his eyes.

"Well... his name's Jack and he's a captain," I retort, smiling up at him.

"He's not really a captain, Lizzie," he smirks down at me.

"Do you know what I think?" Rose asks and the Doctor hums in response, not looking away from me as he studies my face. "I think you're experiencing captain envy," she smirks and my face heats up worse when he just shrugs, not denying it... oh... "You'll find your feet at the end of your legs, you may care to move them," she pushes us closer together.

The Doctor smiles, moving his hand from my left and moving it to my waist, underneath my jacket. I almost shiver at his warm hand touching me through the thin fabric of my tank, but I shove it down. I chew my bottom lip and move my left hand up to the upper part of his arm since I can't really reach his shoulder comfortably. I look down shyly as we begin to sway, my face unbearably hot. The Doctor chuckles quietly and moves his hand from my waist to tilt my head up, my chin between his thumb and forefinger. "If he ever was a captain, he's been defrocked," he jokes, making me smile.

"Y-yeah? ... shame I missed that... t-then," I let out a shaky breath as he lets his thumb run along my jaw.

I glance down at his lips; it would be so easy... so easy to just lean up on my tip-toes, pull him down a bit and- my eyes snap back up to his when I get a sudden, sharp pang of grief and a smaller, less potent one of guilt. The Doctor looks down at me, not saying anything as his eyebrows furrow. I was moving to pull away when Jack's voice cuts in, "actually, I quit," he snorts. "Nobody takes my frock!"

"Jack!" Rose groans, slapping him upside the head.

I move away from the Doctor quickly, wrapping my arms around my waist as I look away with a beet-red face. I look over at Jack to see him rubbing his head and sending Rose a glare, "that's just rude," he mutters and she sticks her tongue out. "Anyway, most people notice when they've been teleported; you two are so sweet," he smirks between the Doctor and me, making him cough awkwardly as I get another small pang of guilt. "Sorry about the delay... I had to take the nav-com offline to override the teleport security," he explains.

The Doctor clears his throat, "you can spend ten minutes overriding your own protocols? Maybe you should remember whose ship it is," he scoffs lightly.

"Oh, I do, she was gorgeous," Jack sends Rose a wink, making her roll her eyes. "Like I told her: be back in five minutes," he snorts, ducking down into a little compartment underneath his console.

"This is a Chula ship," the Doctor comments.

"Yeah, just like that medical transporter; only, this one is dangerous," Jack calls up, his voice slightly muffled.

I hear a click of fingers and turn, my eyes widening when I see gold flecks floating around the Doctor's hand. I move over, staring at them in awe, "what are they?" I ask quietly.

"They're what fixed my hands up!" Rose cuts in. "Jack called 'em, um..." she trails off.

"Nano-bots? Nano-genes?" the Doctor asks, moving his fingers around and I watch as the little firefly-like things move with them.

"Nano-genes, yeah," she smiles.

"Sub-atomic robots," I smile.

"There's millions of them in here, see?" the Doctor grins, moving his hand around more. "Burned my hand on the console when-"

"I forgot," I frown, taking his hand in mine and looking it over. "You alright?"

"All better now, here," he smiles, moving his hand to my elbow and the nano-genes move to me.

I giggle slightly at the tingling sensation, "they're really pretty," I watch them swirl around my arm.

"How's that?"

"Feels good," I smile, watching them disappear when he waves them away.

"They activate when the bulkhead's sealed; check you out for damage, fix any physical flaws," the Doctor explains.

"So, like mini-doctors?" I snort at the mental image.

"Take us to the crash site, I need to see your space-junk," the Doctor orders Jack, ignoring my comment.

"As soon as I get the nav-com back online," Jack calls as he climbs back up and into his captain's chair. "Make yourselves comfortable; carry on with whatever it was you-" he gestures between the Doctor and me. "-were doing," he smirks.

"We were talking about dancing!" the Doctor defends quickly.

"It didn't look like talking," Jack snorts, Rose 'coughing' into her arm

"Didn't feel like dancing," I mutter, biting my lip when the Doctor looks at me with an expression I can't read and his eyes catch the movement.

The embarrassment from a few minutes ago, along with the want to kiss him - which adds to the embarrassment - comes back full-force and I move to sit down on the built-in cot while avoiding the Doctor's gaze. I get a quick rush of grief and guilt, that's gone quickly and pull my knees up, frowning in confusion.

***

I was sitting on the cot, messing with one of the zippers on my jacket while the Doctor sits next to me. Jack was messing with the controls of his ship and Rose was leaning on his chair, talking with him. "So, you used to be a Time Agent, now you're trying to con them?" she asks.

Jack sighs, "if it makes me sound any better, it's not for the money," he shakes his head.

"For what?"

"Woke up one day when I was working for them, found they'd stolen two years of my memories; I'd like them back," he explains darkly.

"They... stole your memories?" I frown.

"Two years of my life, no idea what I did," Jack rubs at his face. "Your friend there doesn't trust me and for all I know... he's right not to," he murmurs, the Doctor not responding as he eyes Jack. "Ok, we're good to go," he says when the console bleeps. "Crash site?"

***

The Doctor, Rose, Jack, and I walk up to the edge of the railroad tracks where the military outpost around the 'bomb' is. "There it is," Jack points to it and then brightens. "Hey, they've got Algy on duty! Must be important," he smiles.

"We've got to get past," the Doctor tells him.

"Are the words 'distract the guard' heading in my general direction?" Rose smirks and I roll my eyes.

"I don't think that'd be such a good idea," Jack shakes his head, making me snort when Rose deflates.

"Don't worry, I can handle it," she argues, put out.

"I've got to know Algy quite well since I've been in town," Jack retorts, making me raise an eyebrow. "Trust me... you're not his type, I'll distract him," he smirks, walking away while Rose and I blink after him. "Don't wait up!" he calls over his shoulder.

"Relax, he's a fifty-first-century guy; he's just a bit more flexible when it comes to dancing," the Doctor smiles.

"How flexible?" Rose asks curiously.

"Well, by his time, you lot have spread out across half the galaxy," he shrugs.

"What? That's what we do when we get out there! That's our mission? We seek new life and... and..." Rose splutters over her words, red-faced.

"Dance," the Doctor snickers and I fold my arms; I knew they were using 'dance' as a replacement for 'sex'.

I tilt my head, seeing Algy look like he's choking as he falls to his knees, "uh... I think something's wrong," I mutter, pointing before my eyes widen when I hear 'mummy'. "Get back!" I shout, running forward with the Doctor and Rose behind me.

"You men! Stay back!" Jack yells to a few other soldiers that were coming over.

"The effect's become air-borne, accelerating," the Doctor tells us as he examines Algy's 'lifeless' form.

"What's keep us safe?" Rose asks.

"Nothing," I wince, pulling Rose into my side with my arm around her as a siren goes off.

"Ah, here they come again," Jack looks up at the sky.

"All we need," Rose groans. "Didn't you say a bomb was gonna land here?" she asks, getting a nod from Jack.

"Never mind that," the Doctor shakes his head. "If the contaminants air-borne now, there's hours left..."

"For what?" Jack frowns.

"Till nothing," the Doctor replies.

"Forever," I put in.

"For the entire Human Race," he adds. "And can anyone else hear singing?" he frowns.

I listen carefully, my eyebrows furrowing when I hear faint singing. Is that... is that Nancy?

Rock-a-by baby, on the treetops, when the wind blows the cradle will rock... when the bough breaks the cradle will fall and down will come baby, cradle and all...

The Doctor heads off in the direction of the singing to check it out. "So," Jack turns to me when he's out of earshot. "What's up with the two of you?"

"What do you mean?" I frown, looking between him and Rose when they laugh. "What?" I snap.

"You and the Doctor, what's the deal?" he elaborates.

My eyes widen and my face flushes, "n-n-nothing! He's my f-friend!" I squeak out, covering my bright red cheeks.

"I've never looked at a friend the way you two look at each other, kitten," Jack smirks, my face becoming hotter. "What about you, Rose?"

"Can't say I have, Jack," Rose snickers. "But you weren't supposed to ask her anything about it!" she slaps his arm.

"Ow," he rolls his eyes, rubbing his arm. "I didn't agree to that!"

"Hold up," I cut in. "What did you agree to?" I narrow my eyes.

"Um..." Rose shuffles on her feet.

"Rose," I glare warningly. "What did he agree to?"

"I wanted him to make the Doctor jealous so you two would quit tip-toeing around each other, ok!" she blurts.

"Rose!" I slap her arm and she yelps, glaring at me. "You can't just- just- just decide that some hot American bloke flirting with me is gonna suddenly make him fancy me!" I groan miserably. "Don't," I glare at Jack when he smirks with a 'you think I'm hot?'. "I mean, honestly! Don't we have more pressing matters? A bomb's coming, we might get turned into gas-mask zombies and you're pushing yourself into the middle of my non-existent love life?" I ask incredulously.

"It's not my fault you're both oblivious to the other!"

"He's an alien, Rose! That's not- how would that even work?"

"So, you're telling me you've never once thought of..." she trails off and my stomach sinks at her tongue-in-teeth smile. "Dancing with the Doctor?"

"We- we are n-not discussing this!" I groan, squeezing my eyes shut and willing myself not to kill her as I clench my fists at my sides.

"Oh, she definitely has!" Jack exclaims, way too happy about my absolute misery. "I didn't even know this shade of red existed," he snorts, poking my cheek and I open my eyes to glare at him. "Don't worry, kitten, it's pretty cute," he smirks.

"Lizzie!" a voice calls and I nearly cry in relief.

I turn, seeing Nancy running over with the Doctor behind her, "Nancy!" I smile, rushing over and pulling her into a tight hug. "Are you alright? What happened after you left us?" I ask, pulling away.

"Nothing good," she shudders and I squeeze her shoulders. "Who are they?" she gestures over to Jack and Rose, who were leaning against each other and laughing.

"My sister, Rose, and Jack," I wave off, not looking at them.

"What's wrong with them?" the Doctor asks, raising an eyebrow.

"N-nothing!" I answer quickly, making his eyebrow go higher and I turn away, my face burning as Rose and Jack laugh even harder. "U-um... uh... let's- let's get going to the c-crash site, y-yeah?" I walk off, grabbing Rose's arm on the way. "I can't believe you," I glare at her.

"You love me and my meddling," she smiles, kissing my cheek. "You're just cross cause you're thinking about 'big-ears' in sexy... exhausting ways," she teases under her breath.

"Oh, my God, shut it!" I groan and she giggles.

"Lizzie, you alright?" the Doctor asks from behind us.

"I'm- I'm f-fine!" I squeak.

Jack comes up beside us, snickering, "is it possible to spontaneously combust from sheer embarrassment?"

"I will kick you in your fun bits if you don't shut the hell up, captain," I glare and he yelps as if I had, covering his groin.

***

The five of us get to where the 'bomb' is and my face is semi back to normal as I stand beside Nancy with an arm around her. Jack gestures to it, "you see? Just an ambulance," he tells us.

"That's an ambulance?" Nancy asks shakily and I rub her arm soothingly.

"It's hard to explain," Rose tells her gently. "It's... it's from another world..."

Jack checks the control panel, "they've been trying to get in," he frowns.

"Course they have," I roll my eyes.

"They think they've got their hands on Hitler's latest secret weapon," the Doctor nods. "What're you doing?" he asks as Jack starts punching numbers into the panel.

"Well, the sooner you see this thing is empty, the sooner you'll see I had nothing to do with it," Jack retorts and the controls spark up, making us all jump backward as an alarm starts. "Didn't happen last time," he mutters in shock.

"It hadn't crashed last time," the Doctor shakes his head. "They're the emergency protocols!"

"Doctor... what is that?" I tilt my head, seeing a flashing red light on the control panel before my stomach knots up and my face pales in realization. "Oh, God... it's- it's calling them, isn't it?"

"Exactly, they'll be here any second, now," the Doctor nods.

"Lizzie! Doctor!" Rose shouts.

We both turn quickly and I see the gates at the other side of the crash site are shaking violently. "Captain, secure those gates!" the Doctor orders Jack.

"Why?"

"Just do it!" I shout.

"Nancy, how'd you get in here?" the Doctor turns to her urgently.

"I cut the wire," she answers, staring at the shaking gates.

"Show Lizzie," he tosses me the sonic. "Setting 2,428-D," he tells me.

"Got it," I nod, following Nancy.

"What!?" Rose asks incredulously.

"Re-attaches barbed wire," the Doctor explains. "Go help 'em!" he orders.

***

Nancy had taken us to a hole in the fence and she and Rose were holding the pieces together. I hold the sonic against it, pressing the button and watching in slight awe as the barbed wire mends itself. "This thing is so amazing," I smile, breathing out a small laugh.

"Who are you?" Nancy asks, looking between Rose and me. "Who are any of you?"

"You'd never believe me if I told you," Rose shakes her head as we continue to mend the fence.

"You just told me that was an ambulance from another world, there are people running round with gas-mask heads calling for their mummies, and the sky's full of Germans dropping bombs on me; tell me, do you think there's anything left I couldn't believe?" she asks.

I glance at her, "I knew there was a reason I liked you; clever and kind, always a good combo," I smile and she smiles somewhat shyly. "We're travelers from the future," I tell her, turning the sonic off and watching her reaction.

"Mad, you are," she scoffs lightly, shaking her head.

"We have a time travel machine, seriously!" Rose smiles.

"It's not that," Nancy assures her. "Alright, you've got a time travel machine, I believe ya; believe anything, me..." she pauses, looking up at the sky. "But what future?"

I look up at the bombs dropping, some explosions happening in mid-air. "Nancy, this isn't the end," I look back to her, taking her hands in mine. "I know how it looks, but it's not the end of the world," I smile.

"How can you say that!? Look at it!" she argues, tearing up.

"Listen," Rose smiles gently, putting a hand on her shoulder. "Lizzie and me? We're from this city, in like, fifty years' time."

Nancy looks between us, "from here?"

"Yup, we're Londoners... from your future," I smile.

"But- but you're not..." she trails off.

"What?" Rose asks.

"... German," she whispers.

"Nancy," Rose smiles, rubbing her shoulder. "The Germans don't come here, they don't win."

"Don't tell anyone I told you so," I smile. "But do you know what? You win!"

"We... win?"

"You win," Rose smiles and Nancy gives a laugh in half-relief, half-disbelief.

"Come on," I smile, getting up and pulling her and Rose to their feet.

***

Nancy, Rose, and I head back over to the med-ship where Jack was just opening the hatch, "it's empty, look at it," he gestures inside.

"What do you expect in a Chula medical transporter? Bandages? Cough drops? ... girls?" the Doctor turns to Rose and me.

"I don't know," Rose shrugs as my eyes widen; oh, no...

"Yes, you do," the Doctor wiggles his fingers.

"Nano-genes!" Rose shouts as I whisper it.

"It wasn't empty..."

"No," the Doctor shakes his head, turning to Jack as anger washes over me in strong, continuous waves. "There was enough nano-genes in there to rebuild a species," he grinds out, glaring at he captain.

"Oh, God," Jack whispers, his face paling.

"Getting it now, are we?" the Doctor asks harshly. "When the ship crashes, the nano-genes escape; billions upon billions of them, ready to fix all the cuts and bruises in the whole world! But what they find first is a dead child-"

Nancy whimpers slightly and I wrap an arm around her, "I'm so sorry," I whisper, rubbing her arm.

"-probably killed earlier that night and wearing a gas-mask!"

"And they brought him back to life? They can do that?" Rose asks shakily, looking ready to be sick.

"In a way..." I murmur, my stomach churning and heart aching as Nancy begins to sniffle.

"What's life? Life's easy," the Doctor scoffs. "A quirk of matter! Nature's way of keeping meat fresh, nothing to a nano-gene! One problem, though: these nano-genes, they're not like the ones on your ship; this lot have never seen a Human being before! Don't know what a Human being's supposed to look like-!"

"Doctor..." I cut in, Nancy shaking as she tries not to cry.

"-All they've got to go on is one little boy and there's not a lot left! But they carry right on! They do what they're programmed to do! They patch it up-!"

"Doctor..."

"-Can't tell what's gas-mask and what's skull, but they do their best! Then off they fly - off they go, work to be done! Cause you see, now they think they know what people should look like and it's time to fix all the rest and they won't ever stop! They won't ever, ever stop! The entire Human race is gonna be torn down and rebuilt in the form of one terrified child looking for his mother and nothing in the world can stop it!"

"Doctor!"

"What!?" he rounds on me, breathing heavily.

"Stop it," I whisper, Nancy curled into my side as she cries quietly.

The Doctor barely softens when he sees Nancy's shaken form and gives one last harsh look to Jack before kneeling down to mess with the controls on the med-ship.

"I didn't know..." Jack swallows hard.

"Nancy, I'm so, so sorry," I stroke her hair before handing her over to Rose, who soothes the poor girl.

I go over to the Doctor and kneel beside him, handing over the sonic. He takes it, angrily messing about with the controls. I sigh, standing up and moving so I can massage his stiff shoulders. The Doctor tenses at the touch before relaxing into it, letting out a long breath. "I didn't mean to upset her," he whispers.

"I know you didn't, but that was her brother..."

"I shouldn't have lost my temper," he shakes his head. "This is helping, though," he groans quietly in relief when I massage a knot between his shoulder blades.

I watch him mess about with the med-ship while I try and work out the tension in his back. After a few minutes, the anger washing over me lessens and I smile. "Don't get smug," the Doctor elbows me in the stomach lightly.

"You can't even see me," I retort.

"I can feel your smile, tiny," he replies.

"Not my fault you turn to putty in my hands," I smirk.

"I still owe you a massage from last time, then we'll see who's putty," he shoots back.

"D-Doctor!" I push him forward while he laughs, my face burning; he's totally unfair!

"Lizzie? Doctor?" Nancy calls out shakily.

I turn around, seeing the gas-mask zombies surrounding the crash site, all of them calling 'mummy!' over and over. I was immediately brought back to the situation at hand and my stomach churns. "The ship thinks it's under attack, it's calling up the troops; standard protocol," the Doctor explains quickly.

"But... the gas-mask people aren't troops," Rose argues.

"They are now," the Doctor retorts. "This is a battlefield ambulance," he gestures to it.

"So... the nano-genes don't just heal you; they get you ready for the front lines?"

"Equip you, program you," the Doctor nods.

"That's why the child's so strong, why it could do that phoning thing," Rose realizes, her eyes widening.

"It's a fully equipped Chula warrior, yes," the Doctor nods. "All that weapons tech in the hands of a hysterical four-year-old looking for his mummy," he shakes his head, a wave of sadness and slight fear mixed with anger washing over me.

"And now there's an army of them..." I whisper.

"Why don't they attack?" Jack asks, looking around at all the gas-mask zombies just standing outside the fence.

"Good little soldiers, waiting for their commander," the Doctor replies, standing up and taking my hand, intertwining our fingers.

"The child?"

"Jamie..." Nancy corrects quietly.

"What?"

"Not 'the child', Jamie," she glares.

"So... how long until the bomb falls?" Rose asks.

"Any second," Jack answers.

"What's the matter, captain?" the Doctor glares. "Bit close to the volcano for you?"

"He's just a little boy," Nancy murmurs thickly.

I let go of the Doctor's hand and move over to Nancy, taking her hands, "I know," I tell her gently, squeezing her hands.

"He's just a little boy who wants his mummy," she cries.

"We know," the Doctor comes up beside me. "There isn't a little boy born who wouldn't tear the world apart to save his mummy and this little boy can," he sighs.

"So what're we gonna do?" Rose asks shakily.

"I don't know," the Doctor admits.

"It's my fault!" Nancy cries, making me frown.

"No-"

"It is!" she cuts me off and my eyes widen when I hear the chants of 'mummy' and take in Nancy's extremely pale face. "It's all my fault!

"How can it be your-" the Doctor cuts himself off.

"Oh, Nancy..." I shake my head sadly. "You poor thing," I pull her into my arms and she leans into me, sobbing.

"Nancy, what age are you? Twenty? Twenty-one?" the Doctor asks quickly as a bomb lands pretty nearby. "Older than you look, yes?"

"Doctor! That bomb! We've got seconds!" Jack calls over another bomb landing.

"You can teleport us out," Rose turns to him.

"Not you guys," Jack shakes his head. "The nav-comm's back online; gonna take too long to override the protocols," he explains.

"So it's volcano day, do what you've got to do," the Doctor shrugs while I shush Nancy gently, rubbing circles into her back.

"... Jack?" Rose watches him sadly as he teleports away.

"How old were you five years ago?" the Doctor asks gently. "Fifteen? Sixteen? Old enough to give birth, anyway," he says and Nancy looks at me before burying her face against my neck in shame, still sobbing uncontrollably.

"He's not your brother, is he?" I ask softly and she shakes her head.

"A teenage single mother in 1941; so you hid, you lied," the Doctor says and Nancy nods, tears getting my neck wet. "You even lied to him."

The gate swings open suddenly and Jamie comes through to the front of his gas-masked army. "Are you my mummy?" he tilts his head.

"He's gonna keep asking, Nancy," the Doctor puts his hand on her shoulder, squeezing gently. "He's never gonna stop... tell him," he encourages her.

She sobs harder and I pull away, cupping her face, "Nancy, you need to tell him; he needs his mummy," I wipe away her tears. "The future of the Human Race depends on it and... you need this," I tell her softly.

Taking a few deep breaths to collect herself, she nods and pulls away from me to face Jamie as he approaches. "Are you my mummy? Are you my mummy? Are you my mummy?"

"Yes," Nancy whispers, her voice terribly shaky.

"Are you my mummy?"

Nancy clears her throat, "yes," she tells him in a stronger tone. "I am your mummy."

"Mummy?" Jamie asks, walking to her slowly.

"I'm here," Nancy cries.

"Are you my mummy?"

"I'm here," she cries, falling to her knees.

"Are you my mummy?"

"Yes," she whispers.

"I don't think he understands," I shake my head, tears prickling my eyes. "There isn't enough of him left..." I whisper.

"I am your mummy," Nancy cries. "I will always be your mummy! I'm so sorry!" she wraps her arms around Jamie.

"What's happening?" Rose stares in horror. "Doctor, it's changing her, we should-!"

"Shh!" the Doctor hisses, holding his hand out to her.

Rose goes to move forward, but I hold her back, "watch," I nod to Jamie and Nancy, the nanobots forming around them in a golden cloud. "Come on," I whisper, silently praying.

"Come on, please," the Doctor watches intently. "Come on, you clever little nano-genes, figure it out! The mother! She's the mother! There's gotta be enough information! Figure it out!"

"What's happening?" Rose frowns as the nano-genes grow brighter.

"See? Recognizing the same DNA," the Doctor gestures to them.

Nancy falls away from Jamie as the nano-genes disappear. The Doctor, Rose, and I rush over. I kneel down next to Nancy, helping her sit up as she blinks several times. The Doctor moves over to Jamie cautiously, "oh, come on... give me a day like this... give me this one," he begs, removing the gas-mask.

I beam at Jamie, back to being a little boy; an absolutely adorable one. Nancy stares in complete wonder at her son while the Doctor laughs ecstatically. He lifts Jamie into the air, tossing him up, "welcome back! Twenty years till pop music! You're gonna love it!" he laughs, hugging Jamie.

"What happened?" Nancy asks breathlessly.

I smile widely, watching the Doctor with Jamie, "the nano-genes recognized the superior information - the parent DNA," I explain. "They didn't change you because you changed them!"

"Mother knows best! Ha!" the Doctor laughs, setting Jamie down in front of Nancy.

"Jamie!" she cries happily, throwing her arms around him.

"Doctor... that bomb..." Rose trails off as yet another lands nearby.

"Taken care of it!" the Doctor smiles.

"How?"

"Psychology!" he laughs, gesturing to Nancy and Jamie and I giggle at his absolute giddiness.

I look up when a bomb whistling sounds right above us and it's got up in a blue tractor beam in mid-air. Rose and I burst out laughing at Jack, who was straddling it. "Doctor!" he calls down.

"Good lad!" the Doctor cheers.

"The bomb's already commenced detonation; I've put it in stasis, but it won't last long!"

"Change of plan, don't need the bomb! Can you get rid of it? Safely as you can?"

Jack nods, "Rose? Kitten?" he calls down to us.

"Yeah?"

"Goodbye," he smiles softly before disappearing, Rose and I looking at each other with frowns. "By the way!" he calls down and we look back up at him when he reappears. "Love the outfits," he sends us a wink and disappears again.

Rose and I look at each other, this time giggling with pink faces. I turn to the Doctor and see him standing in the middle of the crash site with the nano-genes surrounding him. "What're you doing?" I ask.

"Software patch; gonna e-mail it," he smiles. "You want moves, girls? I'll give you moves!" he throws the nano-genes toward the gas-mask zombies.

The Doctor beams, laughing as the nano-genes surround the patients and they fall to the ground. "Everybody lives, girls!" he cheers. "Just this once! Everybody lives!"

The patients slowly start to stand and take the gas-masks off, all of them back to normal. I squeal, pulling Rose into a tight hug while the Doctor runs over to Doctor Constantine. I kiss Rose's cheek before running over as well. "Doctor Constantine!" I crash into him, my arms going around him in a tight hug.

"Oh, my dear," he stumbles slightly and I giggle, pulling away and beaming up at him.

"Doctor Constantine, who never left his patients!" the Doctor laughs. "Back on your feet, constant doctor!"

"World doesn't wanna let you just yet and I can't blame it one bit!" I bounce up and down.

"These are your patients! All better, now!" the Doctor beams, gesturing around at all the people.

"Yes, yes... so it seems," Doctor Constantine mutters, shaking his head slightly to clear it. "They also seem to be standing around in a disused railway station," he looks around. "Is there any particular reason for that?"

"Yeah, well, you know, cutbacks," the Doctor shrugs, still beaming and making me giggle. "Listen, whatever was wrong with them in the past, you're probably gonna find that they're cured," he explains.

"Just tell them what a brilliant doctor you are," I smile. "Don't make a big thing of it, yeah?" I wink as the Doctor pulls me back over to Rose.

The Doctor hops up on the med-ship, addressing the crowd, "right, you lot! Lots to do! Beat the Germans, save the world! Don't forget the Welfare State!" he shouts, making Rose and I laugh as the people start to walk away, going back to the hospital. "Setting this to self-destruct, soon as everybody's clear," he hops down and messes with the controls. "History says there was an explosion here! Who am I to argue with history?" he asks, looking up at us.

"Usually the first in line," Rose and I answer immediately, laughing after and making the Doctor grin.

***

Back in the TARDIS, the Doctor was still smiling like a madman. "The nano-genes will clean up the mess and switch themselves off because I just told them to," he grins, rushing up to the console. "Nancy and Jamie will go to Doctor Constantine for help, ditto! All in all, all things considered? Fantastic!"

"Look at you beaming away like you're Father Christmas!" Rose laughs.

"Who says I'm not? Red bicycle when you were twelve?" he retorts.

"What!?" Rose squeaks.

The Doctor just laughs, pointing to me, "art supplies and a goldfish when you were eight?" he wiggles his eyebrows.

"How do you-"

"I told him about those," I roll my eyes, smiling.

"And everybody lives, girls!" the Doctor shouts, holding his arms open wide. "Everybody lives!" he flips a switch on the console. "I need more days like this!" he laughs, practically bouncing around.

"Doctor..." Rose trails off, making me frown at her tone.

"Go on! Ask me anything! I'm on fire!"

"... what about Jack?" she asks, making my heart clench at the thought of the captain.

"Yeah... why'd he say goodbye?" I ask, watching the Doctor's smile fade.

***

The Doctor had a very nice plan for Jack and we were heading to pick him up. Rose apparently had a plan as well as she whispers to the Doctor and he rolls his eyes, turning 'Moonlight Serenade' on with a flick of a switch. "Ok," Rose grins, grabbing the Doctor's hands and pulling him over to me. "You've got to learn how to dance and I'm not taking 'no' for an answer," she tells him sternly. "Oh, sweet sister of mine!" she smirks, placing the Doctor in front of me.

"Why have I got to teach him?" I bite my lip while he just smiles down at me, amused as my face burns.

"Cause I said," Rose gives me a look.

"Fine, fine," I sigh, taking the Doctor's hands.

"I do know this bit," the Doctor smirks, moving my left hand to his upper arm and moving his to my waist, pulling me closer.

I squeak quietly, making him chuckle and Rose laughs as she sits on the jump-seat to watch us. The two of us start to dance, the Doctor fumbling a bit while I lead him in a simple waltz. "Right... and turn..." I tell him and he tries to spin me, getting my arm twisted behind me.

"Well, hurry up!" Rose calls and I look to see she'd opened the doors to Jack's ship.

"Ok, ok," I giggle, turning back around. "Try and spin me again, but this time, don't get my arm up my back!" I smile up at him.

"Yeah! No extra points for a half-nelson!" Rose calls over, snickering.

"Oi, stay out of this," the Doctor glares at her playfully. "I'm sure I used to know this stuff..." he grumbles sheepishly.

"I think you're doing great," I smile, biting my lip. "For an old man," I snort.

"Cheeky," he pinches my side, making me squeak as I jump.

"Oi! Big-ears!" I push his shoulder lightly.

"Tiny," he smirks.

"Broody," I narrow my eyes.

"Broody? I'm not broody," he shakes his head, wrinkling his nose.

"Yes, you are! You brood all the time!"

"Alright, then... Elizabeth," the Doctor smirks.

"You!" I glare, going to push him but he grabs my wrists and pulls me tight against his chest. "Bastard..." I huff, my face bright red.

"Are they always like this?" Jack asks and I turn to see the doors now shut and him leaning against a coral beam, smirking.

"Yup!" Rose smiles.

"Welcome to the TARDIS!" the Doctor grins, lets go of me and moves to get us ready to leave.

"Much bigger on the inside," Jack looks around in slight awe.

"You'd better be," the Doctor points to him, making Rose and I giggle.

"Impressive," he walks up the ramp and the TARDIS hums appreciatively. "Sentient time machine... neat..."

Rose sends me a wink, turning to Jack, "I think what the Doctor's trying to say is 'you may cut in'," she gestures to me.

"Lizzie!" the Doctor calls and I turn to him with a raised eyebrow. "I've just remembered!" he cheers.

"What have you just remembered?"

The music suddenly changes to a more upbeat song and the TARDIS flashes her lights. The Doctor moves to me in time with the music, clicking his fingers with a huge grin. I giggle as he cheers, "I can dance! I can dance!"

"Actually, Doctor... I thought Jack might like this dance," I smile, Rose and Jack snickering behind me.

"I'm sure he would, Lizzie! I'm absolutely certain," he beams, grabbing my hand and pulling me toward him. "Guess he'll have to dance with Rose," he smirks and spins me perfectly, making me giggle.

The Doctor leads me around the console and I look over at Rose, smiling when I see her dancing with Jack and laughing. I squeal in surprise in delight when I'm suddenly dipped over the Doctor's arm. I giggle, looking up at his beaming face and he yanks me back up, me leaning my forehead on his chest. "I could definitely get used to this," I sigh happily, laughing when he spins me out and then twirls me back to him.

"Me, too," he beams down at me.
