Chapter 1

(Tony P.O.V)

"Sir, the limousine is here."

Tony Stark checked his tie in the mirror one last time and sighed. "Remind me why I'm going to this event again Jarvis."

"It's a party, sir. Your party, in fact. To celebrate superheroes. Every superhero In the universe is coming."

"Right, right. And why am I going again?"

"Because you're the host, sir."

Someone was pounding at the bathroom door. Tony knew who it was.

"Mr Rhodes is here, Mr Stark."

"Tony! Come on before Pepper kills us both!"

Tony swung open the door and slid on his sunglasses.

"Rhodey if I were to not show up at this party how would it look?"

Rhodey rolled his eyes. "Tony, we've been over this a hundred times. You invited everyone. That's like not showing up to your birthday party."

Tony was about to correct him, tell him that it WASN'T his birthday, in fact it was February 8th, a completely normal day, so why should he go to a party, but at that exact minute a certain pair of high heels came clopping down the corridor sounding like they were stabbing through the floor, and they had to rush out before Pepper was close enough to scream at them.

The black Audi pulled up at the curb. A brightly lit building glowed outside the window, and a herd of reporters were crowded beside a red carpet which obviously had been trampled by many people before him. Tony was late.

"You're late," said Pepper, just to remind him how she could snatch thoughts out of his head.

He turned to protest but her blue eyes were icy and glaring, so instead he looked back at the building, stretching out on the car seat.

"Are you going to get out of the car?"

"I'm here. Isn't that enough?" He almost-whined.

She responded by kicking him. And he might be Iron Man, but GOD SHE WAS WEARING HEELS OW OW OW OW!!!!!

"There's gonna be questions if I'm limping," he growled as they stepped smoothly out of the car.

But he didn't limp. Tony Stark doesn't act lame around reporters. He waved off questions, requests and "oh but it'll only take a few minutes!"s, and strode into the building.

There were thousands of people at the party.

Let me repeat that.

There were THOUSANDS OF PEOPLE at the party.

"Holy shit Rhodey, how many superheroes are there? I invited Cap, Nat, Barton, Bruce, Wanda, Vision, Peter, Ant-Man, Wasp, Sam, T'challa, Nakia, the General, Shuri, The Guardians, Carol, and who else?!"

"I think they're friends and family." Rhodey said from behind him.

Tony scanned the room, irritated, when his gaze fell on a lady in the middle and stuck there.

"Who's that?" he somewhat whispered to Rhodey.

"Who, that blonde woman? That's Carol. Y'know? Carol? Captain Marvel?"

"No no, the one standing beside her, with the black hair down to her hips, that one, see her? The one in the strapless lilac dress?"

"Oh, her." Rhodey peered at her. "I think that's Avila."

"Who?"

"Avila Yao. She works with Carol, helping the Avengers undercover. She lays very low, I only just recently heard about her."

"And what can she do?"

"She has magic powers. They say they stem from the Soul Stone, which she is in possession of."

"Woah."

"Let's go say hi."

"Wha...? Uh-no-thanks-Rhodey-Imma-stay-here-um-I-just-wanna-um-drink-do-you-wanna-wine-or-something?"

Rhodey began to pretty much drag him across the dance floor, which Tony immediately disallowed, and decided to walk very coolly across by himself.

"Hi Carol, hello Avila, I am Lieutenant James Rhodes, this is Tony Stark, how do you do."

"Nice to meet you." Tony stuck out his hand, then promptly thought of a hundred things he could have said that would have been better.

"Hello Mr Stark. I've heard so much about you." Avila took his hand.

"Really? Well to be honest I only just heard of you," Tony replied dumbly, kissing her fair fingers.

She smiled, showing pearly white teeth. "Well I like to stay very secret. I bet no-one here has heard of Storm, Captain Marvel's best friend."

"Storm, huh? That's a nice name." Tony said, them quickly asked her to dance as the music started.

"I would love to." And taking his other hand, they sailed across the ballroom, no doubt the best dancers at the party. Even Peter and Gamora were no match.

"Hey, wanna stop by my place for a coffee?"

"I would love to, Tony."

"You could spend the night here..."

"The guest room doesn't suit me..."

"Who said anything about the guest room?"

(Pepper P.O.V)

The next morning, Pepper walked into the house. Yep, she was already awake. Nicer looking than most, long wavy black hair, good figure. Her dress was excellent quality too. One of Tony's better picks.

"You must be the famous Pepper Potts."

It almost always began like this. "Yes, and you are Avila Yao? Nice to meet you."

"You, too. I've always wanted to meet you."

Huh. More friendly than most. Genuine smile.

"Mmm. Here are your clothes, they've been dry-cleaned and all, and there's a car waiting outside to take you wherever you want."

Avila laughed and slipped on the dress. "Does Tony brush off all the girls he picks up like this?"

"Excuse me?"

Avila saw that Pepper was not willing to be humorous, and pressed her lips together tightly.

"I won't need the car, thanks. I'll just fly."

"Sure, Tony's private plane can be arranged..."

Pepper stopped as a pair of golden, hologram-like wings sprouted from Avila's back and she rose a few feet in the air.

"It's been nice meeting you, Miss Potts."

Then she glided gracefully out the door and disappeared.

"Who was that?" Pepper leaned against the door frame.

"Who was what?" Tony didn't look up from his work.

Pepper took a few steps into his lab. "The girl from last night."

"Oh. Her." Tony didn't stop. "Avila Yao."

"I mean, who is she?"

"What do you mean?"

"Tony, she flew out of the building with yellow hologram wings. Who Is she?!"

"Wings, huh? That's cool..." Tony stopped working. "She works with Carol. Superhero name's Storm. Has powers that stem from the Soul Stone."

"Ohhhhhhh." Pepper nodded in understanding.

As she turned to leave, Tony's voice sounded from behind her.

"What did you mean by 'hologram'?"

"What?"

"You said 'yellow hologram wings'. What did you mean by 'hologram'?"

"Oh...they were sort of see-through. Like holograms. But she could still fly with them."

"I see..."

"Will that be all, Mr Stark?"

"Yes, that will be all, Miss Potts."
