Chapter 29
Sylvie tested the bonds that kept her hands tied behind her back then blew a few strands of hair out of her face. It had been an awkward ride with the guards just watching her from the seats in front of her. Honestly, Sylvie was bored out of her mind. These guys were like the ultimate warriors, and she had had more entertaining imprisonments from smugglers and slavers. She then decided to pull an Ajax:
"So, you guys like sports?" she asked, trying to start a conversation or at least aggravate them like what Ajax would do to make things more interesting.
All she got was a grunt in return.
"Listen, I have had a more interesting arrests than this and you are at the bottom of the list. You could try to be a little more amusing."
One of the guards sent a powerful blow across her cheek and salvia flew from Sylvie's mouth. Okay, maybe pulling an Ajax was not a good idea. How does he see getting punched as entertaining? she groaned.
"How do you like that?" the guard asked roughly.
Sylvie kept her jaw clenched, though pain shot from it when she stiffened it.
In the meantime, Ajax and the rest of the squad had traveled to another village, and again, found no information on the royalty's location.
"There people speak well about them though," Ajax told the squad. "They must have been loyal to the crown and are helping hide them."
"Should we just take the castle ourselves?" one of the fighters asked.
"That's exactly what we are going to do, though I'll need a diversion so we can get in," Ajax scratched his chin.
"Or we could just sneak in the back door," another suggested.
"Good idea, but I'm planning on doing both. I need one of you to come with me, and the rest of you, make a distraction." Ajax then added quickly, "A good one."
"I will cut our coms so no messages between us are intercepted. Just wait for the signal, then move in," a fighter informed.
"Alright, who's coming with me?" Ajax asked. "Come on, don't be shy."
"I'll go," the smaller, not to mention younger one of the group offered. His race was the same as Leory Gunngar, blue skin and yellow hair, but his eyes were the color of amber.
"What's your name kid?"
"Ace."
"Come on then," Ajax sprinted toward the other side of the castle, launching himself over short fences that kept the civilians out. Well, was supposed to anyway. Ace followed close behind, keeping up fairly well even though he was probably half a foot shorter than Ajax.
