Warped

The problem with this kind of spell was that it had many inconveniences. One was that when someone used a teleportation gem they would find themselves falling over with vertigo and soon vomiting.

While Zac had mastered the art of not embarrassing himself as he teleported with one of the enchanted gemstones, the fauna he had dragged with him had not.

She fell to her hands and knees coughing the fur on her tail was spiked up and her ears flattened back as she sat up and reached for her throat breathing heavy and trying to calm down from the intense shock of the unexpected magic.

"What the hell was that?!" She demanded while she looked around. Zac frowned looking down at her and then looked around himself. He had seen this place dozens of times so he tried to look at it through the eyes of a terrified girl who had never warped before and found himself biting his lip at how he handled things.

"I simply used a warp gem to get us to its ruin. You have heard of warping right? It's a convenient way to travel when you can afford it ." He regretted his words on hearing the heavy breathing from the fauna.

Now that I think about it fauna do not have an ounce of magic in their blood, maybe that means the side effects are worse?

"I have never heard of warping before and I never want to do that again it felt like I was turned into jelly and shoved in a pot with another jelly and we have been turned slowly around in a hot cauldron.I don't think that's convenient at all." She practically yelled.

He blinked at the very specific description and struggled to think of a reply involving the magical properties and ruins involved with warping but realized he would end up taking, much longer than he was comfortable with.

"Let's go I need to take you to the embassy."

"Really? How did you know?" She looked up at him wide-eyed like he was a mind reader.

"Know what?"

"That I'm trying to reach the embassy!"

Zac began leading the way out of the dark circular room and rolled his eyes when he was sure she couldn't see him.

" I didn't, you interrupted a mission I was undertaking for the adventurers guild. Because the guild is new in Zett they haven't established a building yet of their own and the headquarters is at the embassy until that time. I'm guessing you lost your identification?"

They walked through a narrow hallway lit by the skylights. At the very end of this hallway the bright light if the open double doors spilling into Zett was not far away.

"Well no ...Well, actually I didn't know I needed identification. I'm here to become an adventurer."

This caused Zac to stop and the exit seemed now miles away instead of several yards.

"I'm sorry...You said you want to become an adventurer?"

"Well yes! The Minux are very good warriors and I hope to destroy the monsters that destroy the land and hurt people to build up my name and establish a good reputation."

He turned around looking at the petite girl who he had saved from a possible gross display of blood and severed limbs earlier and deeply regretted warping now. Not only had he messed up his mission but this girl had no idea what kind of hell she was about to sign up for.

He realized he was still staring at her like she was an idiot and she was waiting for him to say something.

"You don't have to tell me your whole life story." He turned back around and kept walking swiftly to the exit aware how cold the response came out.

"My name's Sirina, what's yours?"

"Eldent Zac Ferinanot" But please just call me Zac if you ever encounter me again I really hate my name." He held out his arm to escort her down the steps she didn't seem to notice and walked ahead of him as if she knew where she was going. Zac gritted his teeth and brushed off the shudder of annoyance he felt.

" Is it that big building?!" Of course, she had been caught up by the sight of the embassy, of course, she had missed his attempt at a polite gesture.

"I suppose the ridiculous accumulation of flags and banners make it a dead giveaway." He stared at the fluttering rainbow of fire hazard. If the embassy had any sense they would make a new flag that represented all of it or at least paint them somewhere in a mural. This was a desert city for gods sake random fire happened.

He supposed he could forgive the poor embassy, though. Zett was a new city made by a great many new ideas and there were still many things that had to be felt with that were more important.

Like the issues with human trafficking, he had to explain to the captain that he almost had a lead on that he had completely jeopardized. He took a deep breath.

"So a lot of these buildings look really old, I thought Zett was a new city."

" A new city built on a very ancient one that was occupied by a low population of humans for a couple hundred years. They were part of some cult that died away." He knew that much at least.

The city had been built to be Zett for the last twenty years and there was still a lot that needed to be done.It had many hidden passages that were used as an opportunity for law breakers. Plenty trades and business that had yet to be established and jobs that needed to be occupied. While it looked old and run down in places Zett was still a land of opportunity in a world where most places were old and has settled down long ago.

"It's pretty magnificent" Sirina whispered looking at the looming building in front of them.

They were a tawny colored sandstone but had large dome shaped roofs freshly painted in a blue color like the window seals of the large colored glass windows. Roses grew in pots on each side of the doors that had vivid blue to match the roof, but otherwise, it was a very plain and square design of architecture. He liked the simplicity of it but he wouldn't call it magnificent.

"Welcome to the blue palace." He said sarcastically but he knew his sarcasm was not noticed a bit.
