Chapter 2

Ezra's P.O.V

I woke up to the sun shining and a cool breeze blowing at my face. I looked to find myself in Kanan's arms and laying on his chest. I closed my eyes and laid my head back on him. It felt nice to be in his arms again and it was the first time I slept well since we ran from the city. I looked over to see Sabine sleeping but Hera was no where in sight.

I began to worry for her. What if she got lost in the forest? What if she was caught by the Empire? What if she was severely hurt by an animal?

"What if you are over reacting."

'Oh great, what do you want?' I asked my annoying common sense.

"I'm just saying that you have feelings of more than a friend, maybe a mother."

'Who would want a street rat as a son?!'

"Who's arms are you in again?"

'Kanan's , not Hera's!'

'Right, but remember all those other times when she hugged us, worried, fed, dare I say it but loved. She has done all of this for us including Kanan. Don't argue with me that you don't feel the same with Kanan either cause I know we do!'

'How do you know anything?!'

'Do I have to spell it out for you?! I AM YOU!'

'I hate it when you're right.'

'Again, when am I ever wrong?'

I rolled my eyes and heard rustling come from a bush. I scooted closer to Kanan and kept watching the bush. I let out a breath that I didn't know I held when Hera came from the bush. She was covered in leaves and branches with some berry juice staining her clothes.

I felt Kanan move then wake up, along with Sabine. "Morning sleepy heads," Hera chirped and started to separate the food evenly. "What happened to you?" Sabine asked. "I tripped into a berry bush," she said, "don't worry they weren't poisonous." "You clumsy? Since when," Kanan teased and let go of me. "Since when do pancakes go in the toaster?" Hera replied.

I laughed so hard remembering Kanan trying to make breakfast for us. "Wait, what happened?" Sabine asked interested. Hera told Sabine what happened making Kanan more embarrassed. Soon, me, Sabine and Hera were laughing so hard that we cried. "Wow really? Where did you learn to cook?" Sabine asked Kanan.

Kanan's humiliated smile turned into a frown and he looked away sadly. I slowly stopped laughing with the others when Kanan didn't respond. "Was it something I said?" Sabine asked. I didn't even know what was going on either but Hera evidently did. "Sabine, there are some things Kanan never got the chance to do cause.......uh," Hera awkwardly scratched the back of her neck.

Sabine looked at me and I gave a shrug of my shoulders that I didn't know either. "Um, sorry," Sabine said guilty. "No, it's ok," Kanan reassured, "You didn't know how I would of reacted. It just brought back some..............memories." Then it hit me, he was thinking of his stepmother, Depa. She never had the chance to teach Kanan how to do some things like cooking.

I gave a sad smile and gave him a hug. Kanan hugged back and I could tell that he was smiling too. I saw the girls lips curved up as well at our little moment. I let go and so did Kanan. "Thank you, I needed that," Kanan said great full. I smiled in return.

A while later, we packed our stuff and followed the stream to wherever it takes us. We take breaks and talked, joked and messed around on our journey like a real family. I was really happy to have met such amazing people. I want to be like them and fight against the Empire to free everyone. This has to end or we will all be destroyed.

I was snapped out of my thoughts when I heard something from in the forest. Was it a wild animal? Was it one of them trying to scare me? I didn't know and ran to catch up with the others.

It was getting late but we kept walking. "There's a storm coming," I heard Kanan say. I looked up to see dark clouds eating up the light of the stars and moon. "We need to find shelter fast!" Hera said urgently. We all started to move faster in hopes of finding anything to keep us dry. If we didn't find shelter, we could be caught in a flood, mud slide, or possibly a fire. Almost anything could happen in a storm if you're not careful. I should know from years on my own.

It started to sprinkle a little and get harder by the minute. "Come on!" Hera said, "Stick together!" We all held each other's hands and quickly ran through the rain. That's when I heard that noise from earlier, again. I didn't pay much attention to it and kept looking for shelter. But I should have paid attention. Something leaped out of the bushes and tackled me to the ground.

"Ezra!" I heard Sabine yell, making Hera and Kanan stop. I was to busy fighting whatever had jumped me. Then the weight left when the thing was pushed off of me. I opened my eyes to see Kanan with a stick in his hands and watching the thing. Hera and Sabine helped me up and checked to see if I was ok. "No way," I heard Kanan whisper in disbelief.

I walked over to see whatever this thing was. Hera and Sabine followed behind me. Kanan kept his stick on the thing like it would attack any minute. But, I was wrong. It wasn't a thing, it was a person.

A wealthy person.

"Zeb?!"
