Ezra's P.O.V

   I dropped everything as I watched Kanan drop to the ground breathing heavily. Ahsoka grabbed that guy and dragged him off while she ordered others to help Kanan. I wasn't paying attention to anything but Kanan after that. "K-Kanan," I said with tears building up in my eyes. Kanan looked over at me and smiled then rasped, "Hey kid." He grunted in pain then settled down again.

   The pool of blood grew and grew. "You.....be....o..k," I said choking on my sobs. I grabbed his hand in mine and he gave it a squeeze of reassurance. "Come here," he said wrapping an arm around me as I laid down on his chest. The bolt got him near the heart so I tried to be as gentle and fadeaway from the wound as possible.

   I cried into Kanan's chest as he soothingly rubbed my back. "K-Kanan," I heard Sabine say and I looked up to see her on his other side. "It's going to be ok," Kanan rasped and smiled. Sabine let some tears roll down her cheeks as she held his hand. I buried my face in Kanan's chest again. "Daddy....please...d-don't leave me," I said and he just kept rubbing my back.

I felt someone trying to get me away from Kanan but I didn't budge. "Kid, let us help him or he's going to die," I looked up to see Rex and I moved away sadly. "I need some help!" Rex called and four rebels came in. They took Kanan away as Rex came over to me and Sabine. "Are you two ok?" Rex asked and me and Sabine gave each other unsure looks.

   "Physically, yes; mentally, no," Sabine said holding back another sob. Rex's features soften, "I know what you mean," he said, "Let's get you two to back to base, we all can sleep sound tonight knowing that we are safe." Me and Sabine were silent as Rex guided us out of the building. We saw confused rich people and troopers looking around trying to figure out what happened.

   "Uh, excuse me?" I heard a familiar voice say behind me. I turned around and my heart almost stopped when I saw Zeb and his group with confused looks. "Do you by any chance know what's going on?" He asked. Now I'm the one confused. Doesn't he know me? From those years of beating and torture, he doesn't remember me?

   "Hello?" Zeb snapped his fingers in front of me. I jumped then looked up at him. "I asked if ya knew what's going on?" Zeb asked again. I shrugged my shoulders then I was pulled away from the conversation. I waved bye and they surprisingly waved back. "Kid, are you trying to get lost?" Rex asked pulling on my arm. I smiled sheepishly and scratched the back of my neck with my free hand.

   We squirmed through the crowd until we reached the hospital. Me and Sabine are already inside the lobby when Rex walks through the door. "Clones weren't made for babysitting, they were made to protect people," Rex muttered. I roiled my eyes and my mind drifted to Kanan and Hera. Were they ok? Are they going to make it? No! I can't think like that! They will make it!

   A nurse walks up to us then me and Sabine stand. "Are you Ezra and Sabine?" The nurse asked. The both of us nodded without a single word. "Your mother is awake and she should be fine," the nurse said cheerfully but I could tell something was wrong. "And Kanan?" Sabine asked the question we were all thinking. "We are not so sure yet but don't think much of it," the nurse said, "he's stable but we aren't exactly sure how stable."

    "What do you mean by 'not sure?'" Rex asked standing up behind me and Sabine with his arms crossed. "I mean, he has been off," the nurse said, "I'm not sure of any other way to describe it." Worry fills me and guilt starts to eat at me. This was my fault, if I just moved away fast enough then Kanan wouldn't be balancing on life and death now.

   "Would you like to go see your mother?" The nurse asked snapping me out of my thoughts. "Yes please," Sabine said and I froze. How could I face Hera for what I did to Kanan? Would she even forgive me for barely getting her husband killed? I didn't know and the thought made me sit down. "Ezra, you coming?" Sabine asked and they look at me.

   I shake my head no a little to fast. "Why not?" Sabine asked and knelt down to my eye level. I looked away and crossed my arms in a defensive way. "Hera, mad," I said sadly. "She's mad at you? Why would she be mad at you?" Sabine asked setting a comforting hand on my knee. I held back my tears and looked straight into Sabine's eyes. "Kanan," I said and winced when my voice cracked.

   Sabine had a faint smile spread across her lips. "Ezra, the wasn't your fault," she reassured. "Yes it was!" I yelled and for once sounded normal when I spoke. That would happen on occasions but like once in a blue moon. My yelling for most of the attention around the lobby but I didn't care cause I was to busy trying to prove a point.

"That wasn't your fault," Sabine said unfazed by my yelling, "Kanan was just protecting you and I bet you would have done the same for him." It took me a minute to sink in what Sabine was says. I still was queasy about going to see Hera but I stood up with Sabine. She held out her hand for not only support for me but for her. We followed Rex down the hall with the nurse.

"Here you are," the nurse said and we thanked the nurse before she left. We entered the room to see Hera under a blanket that went up to her armpits and let her arms show. Hera gave us a smile and I could tell that she was in pain. I barely walked into the room when Sabine ran over to Hera and gently gave her a hug. "I'm so glad you're all ok," Hera said to us.

I stood at the door still not sure about facing Hera. Rex smiled as he stood on the right side of the bed while Sabine was on the other. "Is everything ok Ezra?" Hera asked and I was still unsure. "Tell her," Sabine said, "Get it off your shoulders." I looked at Sabine and nodded. "What are you telling me?" Hera asked confused and worried.

"Go ahead and tell her," Sabine said. I still had my arms wrapped around me and with a shaky breath, I look Hera in the eye. "Kanan, not good," I said, "He took bolt........a-and not sure if good." "Oh," she said not expecting that news. "I-I could of m-moved......but-" I stopped when I felt tears running down my face.

   "Ezra," Hera said gently, "Come here." I walked over while looking at the ground. I stood next to Rex and looked up a little at Hera. She reached out her hand and I hesitated before grasping it in mine. Hera smiled at me and said, "He did it to protect you because he loves you." I couldn't hold back my crying anymore and let out all my tears and sobs.

Hera pulled me into her arms and I gently hugged her back. "He is strong," she said, "I'm sure he'll be just fine." I sniffed and nodded before I moved out of the hug to wipe my face then a smile grew on my face. Yeah, Hera's right, Kanan was strong and wouldn't give up easily to leave his family.

*two weeks later*

   Capital City was finally free and every person was made equal which means that there wasn't poor and wealthy people just regular people. Maul was put in a high secure prison. Some of the rebel leaders took charge to make a new government and helped people to get to their homes. They have been doing an amazing job so far and everyone was happy. The poor section was redone and now has beautiful homes but not as authentic as the wealthy's houses.

   Everyone worked together and the new Capital City was stunning. Even the walls that separated both sections was being torn down but the fence around the city was kept up. Yet, there was still ways to get into the forest without being shocked. So things were coming around.

   As for my family, we have a new home since the last one was destroyed again. It was medium sized but in my book, it was perfect. What wasn't perfect though was Kanan was still in the hospital in the coma again. Doctors said that he wasn't fully recovered from the first coma and the bolt made things worse.

   Uncle Copper came and Hera wouldn't stop gawking when she saw him. It was pretty funny and I was supposed to be in bed at that time but decided to check out what Hera was doing. Next thing I knew was that she opened the door, froze then Copper was in a death hug. He told her in sign language about how Kanan was doing and I couldn't understand what he was saying but the look on Hera's face made me worry.

   The next day, I sorta bumped into Zeb and instead of a pounding, he smiled and introduced himself. It felt weird with him not torturing me but in a way, it was nice. I made my first friend and it was my bully, weird.

*two days later*

   Me and Sabine stayed home for once today from going to the hospital to see Kanan. Hera went up almost three to four times a day every week just to see how he was doing. This was the first time me and Sabine stayed behind. Boy, I wish I went when Hera came plowing through the door yelling, "Ezra! Sabine!" I rushed out of my room with Sabine coming out of hers. We both came down stairs fast to find Hera moving around like a mad woman.

   "Hera, what's wrong?" Sabine asked. "I'll tell you in the car," she said and me and Sabine went to the car. Hera soon came out and jumped into the car. "Hera?" I said scared. She looked at me with teary eyes and asked, "Yeah?" I shook my head then Hera went back to starting the car. We pulled out of the drive way and headed somewhere.

   "After the was done visiting Kanan," Hera started, "I went to go get us something to eat but then I got a call from the hospital and they told me to get there immediately." "And?" Sabine asked, "Is Kanan awake? Is he not doing good?" "I don't know," Hera admitted, "I sorta stopped the call before I heard the rest." "Why?" I asked. "Cause I rushed out to come get you two before going to the hospital," she answered.

   Me and Sabine looked at each other worried. We made it to the hospital and the three of us got out of the car. We went through the doors of the hospital and were sent to the lobby. Why won't they send us to Kanan's room? The three of us went to the lobby and saw Copper was the only on in there. Copper perked up and saw us enter.

   "Hey Copper," Hera said, "Why did you want us to come so fast? How's Kanan?" Copper gave a grave look before facing the ground. "Copper?" Hera said again and walked over to her friend. Once Hera sat next to him, he slowly wrapped his arms around Hera. "No," she said and hugged back. Me and Sabine walked over very confused and worried. "Hera, what's going on?" Sabine asked.

   Hera looked up with tears streaming down her face. "He's gone," she said and my heart stopped. Hera gestured for me and Sabine to join them. I didn't have to be told twice as I walked over and sat next to Hera as Sabine sat next to me on the chairs. We were all in one hug, crying for our loss.

*three days later*

   The funeral was over and I was sitting in the spot Kanan showed me when we arrived in the hidden village. Rex offered to drive me here so could look around the village and now I'm watching the sunset with the wind blowing at my face. "Hey," I looked over my shoulder to see Ahsoka smiling sadly then she came over and sat next to me. I looked back over at the sunset.

   "This is very pretty," she complemented, "Was this you and Kanan's spot when you both would disappear. I nodded and sniffed a little. Ahsoka brought me into a side hug. "Remember that he will always be with you," she said and I nodded. We stayed there for a while until I wanted to go home, back to my family. "Go home," I said. Ahsoka stood up and offered me her hand. I grabbed it and she pulled me up. "Then let's go," she said.

   I looked back one more time before we left. I will return someday back to this spot but for now, I'm going home. Back to my home where my family is waiting.
