Chapter 11

Ezra's P.O.V

One minute, a gun is pointed at me and Kanan. The next, Kanan protects me from a huge explosion of fire that burns everything that's in range. Me and Kanan were really close but I only had minor burns and a ringing in my ears, Kanan was literally burning. His clothes were on fire so I put them out. I sat over his still body, ignoring the screaming of people.

"K-Kanan?" I asked and my voice cracked as my eyes watered. This can't me happening, he didn't deserve this and I couldn't protect him. Now he is laying so still on the ground. I looked up to find help but was met with a horrid sight. People that were caught in the explosion were laying dead or running around on fire. I looked over at Zeb, he wasn't any better either. He had a pool of blood forming under his head and horrible burns, there was still some flames dancing on him.

I looked around but who was going to help me. I decided to try and carry him to the exit. I tried to lift myself off the ground the best I could and everything hurt. I yelped as a sharpe pain shot through my leg and fell back to the ground breathing hard. I looked to see the cut from the glass has been reopened and worsen. I tried to stand again but the pain was unbearable and I fell again.

"Ezra!" I heard someone call. I looked up to see Rex and two rebels behind him run over to me and Kanan. "Re-x" I said with my voice cracking. Rex stopped in front of me and knelt down to my level. "Are you ok?" He asked me. Ok?! Is he blind or something?! Rex then looked over at Kanan and told the rebels to carry him. He turned back to me and asked, "Can you walk?" I shook my head no.

"Alright," he said and turned around and pointed to his back, "hop on." I didn't argue and wrapped my arms around his neck. He supported me with his arms for me to sit on. "Let's go!" Rex said and we ran towards the exit of the village. I didn't look back, it was to late and it has been done. Kanan could possibly die because of me.

We made it to the exit to see a jeep parked there. Me and Rex went into the back seat and sat down. The rebels laid Kanan in the trunk area and one hopped out and went to the drivers seat. The other stayed in the back and tried there best to help Kanan. "Ezra," I snapped out of my head and faced Rex with a worried look.

"Can you show me what hurts?" He asked. I pointed to the side of my leg and he grabbed some bandages then started wrapping it around me leg. "We'll get you some better treatment when we get to the safe haven," Rex said and finished wrapping my leg, "This should do the trick until then."

"Thanks," I said then turned to watch Kanan. "He'll be fine," Rex said and laid a hand on my shoulder. I don't move my eyes away or make a muscle at all. I heard Rex sigh and the rest of the ride to the save haven was quiet and I didn't take my eyes off of Kanan the whole time.

The car came to a stop and I couldn't help but glance over my shoulder to see the safe haven. There were a couple of fire pits and tents scattered are the area. What frightened me most was all the injured people laying almost everywhere. We got out of the car and Rex carried me bridle style. The rebels carried Kanan off in a different direction.

I wanted to stay near him and make sure that he was ok but I knew that I would be in the way so I stayed silent. Rex carried me off to somewhere and I hide my face so I wouldn't see all the horrid, injured bodies laying on the ground. It was a mistake to look up. There were some that were covered all the way with blankets with a couple of grieving people over them.

I knew what that meant and quickly looked away. My habit started and a few tears spilled, imagining Kanan under the blanket and the three of us standing over him. It sent chills down my spine just thinking about it. "Hey," I heard Rex say in my ear gently, "Look who I found." I dared to look up and saw Hera and Sabine sitting on some cots with a couple of injuries and burns.

Sabine looked up and saw us then her face brighten with joy. "Ezra!" Sabine chirped when she saw me then frowned. I probably still had tear tracks running down my face and looked like one of Kanan's burn't toast. I let out a small sob at the thought of Kanan. "Here," Rex said and set me down next to Hera, "He can't walk, his leg had a huge cut on it and a couple of burns."

Hera nodded and smiled at Rex. "Thank you," she said with tears in her eyes. Rex nodded and left. Hera gave me a bear-crushing hug and I returned it. We both used each other for support and cried. Sabine joined and sat on Hera's other side, wanting some comfort too. "Where's Kanan?" Sabine asked with her head laying on Hera's shoulder.

I buried my face into Hera's shoulder and I didn't want to talk about right now. "Ezra, please," I heard Hera croak. I looked up into miserable and tired eyes of Hera's. "He saved me," I said and I couldn't say anymore because I was on the verge of crying again. Then a throbbing pain came through my leg and I squeezed the first thing I could grab, Hera's leg.

"What hurts?" Hera asked worried and switch my grip from her leg to her hand. "Leg," I said and groaned, biting my tongue so I wouldn't scream. Why does it hurt so much now? Hera moved down to see my leg. "You're bleeding," she said, "Your wound must of opened again." "Did you get any stitches for it before you came here?" She asked. I shook my head no.

"Alright, I'll be right back," she said, "Sabine, help Ezra until I return." Sabine nodded and I squeezed her hand instead of Hera's. Hera left and Sabine held me in an embrace. "I-it hurts," I said breathing a bit heavily. "Just calm down," she said and rubbed my back. It felt kind of nice that it helped my breathing slow. "That's it, good job," Sabine said. I laid my head on her shoulder then she stopped rubbing my back and laid her head on mine and combed her fingers through my hair. Her other hand was still in my tight grip.

Hera came back with a doctor. He gave me pain killers and started to stitch my leg wound up. I still held onto Sabine's hand for comfort and stared at the night sky. "Alright, that should be good," the doctor said standing up, "just get some rest and you'll be fine in a couple of weeks." "Thank you doctor," Hera thanked him. "No problem, ma'am," the doctor replied.

Hera's P.O.V

"Before you go.." I stopped the doctor, "Can I talk with you for a second?" "Quickly, I still have other patients to attend too," he said. We walked away from Ezra and Sabine so they wouldn't hear us. "Do you know how my husband, Kanan Jaruss is doing?" I asked. The doctor sighed and nodded, "Yes, I do, I just got done with him when you needed help with your son."

I almost smiled when he called Ezra my son but I didn't when the doctor seemed off about Kanan. It was always hard to break bad news to people, I had to do it a couple of times when I was a nurse. "Mr. Jaruss's whole back was fried and damaged terribly, he has some cuts and bruises but he's in a coma," the doctor explained. My eyes widen and I began to worry if he would wake up.

"But besides that, he is just going to have a huge burn't scar on his back for the rest of his days," the doctor said and I flinched. "Oh my goodness, I'm so sorry, wrong choice of words," the doctor apologized. "It's alright, thank you for telling me," I said and tried to give him a small smile. I walked around him and walked back to Ezra and Sabine.
