The beginning
Max gasped and choked as he looked around and found he was on the beach of the lake, alive.
He spotted David who was seeing his breakfast come back up. "Should not have eaten breakfast this morning." He muttered to himself loud enough for Max to hear.
"What the fuck David!" Max screamed voice breaking tears welling up in his eyes. "Why did you save me?" he asked his anger now being replaced with confusion "Your life would be better without me." he said flatly the tears finally rolled down his face hotly.
"Max, you are the one person who has kept me grounded this summer whether I wanted to or not. You may be an ass to others but that's because you haven't been shown the love you needed and deserve-" he started.
"Save it David! What do you know about being neglected?" he yelled through his tears. "What do you know about people not giving a shit about you?"
"Because I've been in your shoes before Max! Remember that story of my first time at camp Campbell? I didn't make it up, i was an asshole to everyone i was around. However unlike you i learned to love the camp because of its charm and seemingly lovable staff. And I'm sorry for not helping you see that." he said. "I just wanted you to be happy for once in your life." He admitted sadly.
Max was shocked. David was trying to say that he wanted the person who treated him like shit to be happy? "I refuse to believe someone as nice as you exists." he said. David looked at him with a sad smile then chuckled.
"Why don't you see for yourself? I'm willing to give you a ride-" he began
"I'm NOT going to that hell hole!" Max said.
"To my place." David finished.
"Oh, um why?" Max asked all his anger gone knowing David wasn't a complete moron.
"Because you need a place to stay. Also your 'parents' came by. Honestly, they're worse than Bob and Miriam combined." David said coldly.
"Who?" Max asked not getting the reference.
"I'll explain that to you later, but you haven't answered my question."
Max looked at David. He saw he was serious. He sighed and went over and hugged him and began to cry.
David hugged him back rubbing small circles on his back to calm him down further. He felt him shiver. "First lets get you in some dry clothes. don't want you catching pneumonia."
Max nodded dumbly. David was actually being a better parent than his own. he was acting like the parents of the movies and TV shows he loved to watch because the parents actually cared for their kids. He smiled softly and followed him back to the mess hall to a waiting Gwen.
"There you two ar- What the Hell happened to you two?" She asked shock and worry dripping from her voice and plastered on her face.
"Its a long story Gwen, I'll tell you when Max feels like he's ready for me to tell you." David said as he got Max a dry towel.
"Ok, I hope its sometime soon David." She said softly watching both boys bonding as they dried off and warmed up.
