Max had been sitting on the pier overlooking the lake. His parents had probably already left him here as they usually would. As well as the counselors probably. Nobody ever cared about him. Not his friends, his family, not even himself if he was to be completely honest.

He pushed so many people away to hide his insecurities and acted like a dick to keep them away. There was only one person who was persistent enough to try and break through but he probably didn't even notice he was gone.

He sighed and stood up. He looked out at the lake and began to tear up.

"Nobody wants me, nobody cares, it would be better if I just didn't exist anymore." He said to himself as a whisper. He took a steadying breath and jumped into the deepest part of the lake.

-Moments before-

"He's not in any of the main buildings." Gwen said catching her breath standing beside David at the front of the mess hall.

David was on high alert that seemed a little out of character for him.

"Gwen I'll take the pier and you take the tents got it?" David asked. Voice filled with stern determination.

"But what if he went to the woods?"
She asked worried, she may have hated the kid but he was an anchor of reality that everyone needed.

"We'll worry about that later. Right now we need to see if we can find him on camp property first." David said with an edge of authority. But his face showed concern and fear.

She nodded. "Yes sir." She said looking at him with sympathy and guilt.

David and Gwen then split up to look for Max. Gwen took the tents as ordered and David took the pier.

David came to the pier just as Max jumped into the water and didn't come back up. David's eyes widened in terror as he ran down the pier as fast as he could crying out his name and swan dived into the same area Max was in.

Once the water settled he saw Max losing the last bit of breath he had. David with all the strength and determination he could muster swam to max.

During Max's last moments of consciousness he saw someone dive into the lake after him. 'huh?' Was the last thing to cross his mind before everything went to black.
