Chapter 4

Central City

S.T.A.R. Labs

"Barry, can I look now?" Kara asked as Barry had his hand over her eyes so she couldn't see where he was taking her. However, Kara was getting a little impatient about not knowing where they were going. Finally Barry stopped in the middle of the cortex in Star Labs. "Alright, you can look," Barry said as he removed his hand from her and stepped away. Kara looked around the room for a moment taking in everything. She was a little confused about where she was until she saw a familiar suit sitting on a mannequin.

Barry leaned up against the wall smiling as he watched her look around. He saw how her eyes lit up as they landed on his suit and noticed that she was excited about this place. "So what do you think?" He asked. Kara turned her attention back to him and smiled.

"It's amazing, I mean I heard rumors about The Flash working with Star labs but I didn't think it was true." She explained.

"Yeah well Star Labs helped me with my powers and now Caitlin, Cisco and I work together as a team stopping crimes together." He explained.

Kara nodded. "That's really cool, but why did you bring me here?" Barry smiled then walked over to her. "Well you mentioned that you couldn't do this alone, so I was thinking you should join the team." Kara's eyes lit up with joy and she smiled. "You and me fighting crime together? I would love that."

"I was hoping you would say that." Barry then walked over to a sheet that was next to his suit and unveiled it to show Kara's Supergirl suit. "I don't know about you, but I think our two emblems look good together." He explained. "They definitely do." Kara walked over looking at her suit. She was ready to be a hero again, especially now that she would have Barry as her partner.

Kara turned to Barry and hugged him unexpectedly. "Thank you Barry." Barry smiled at her, glad that he was able to make her happy and hugged her back. "Of course, you and me we're in this together now."

"I wouldn't have it any other way." They pulled apart as Cisco and Caitlin came into the cortex, they looked a little confused on what was happening. Barry noticed them approaching. "Great you guys are back." He explained as Cisco sat down in his chair in front of the computers and Caitlin just stood there waiting for Barry to explain what was going on.

"Kara's agreed to join the team!" He explained enthusiastically and smiled. Cisco and Caitlin found out about Kara being supergirl not long after Barry did. She thought it would be best to tell everyone when she was invited to a game night at the West's a few days ago. Since they had found out, Barry talked with Cisco and Caitlin about asking Kara to join the team, which they agreed with.

"Sweet! Team Superflash is a go!" Cisco explained putting his hands up in the air for victory on Kara joining the team. Caitlin gave him a confused look. "Team Superflash?"

"What if they're going to be partners then we can't just be Team Flash."

Kara shrugged, "I like it, it works."

Barry nodded in agreement. "I'm cool with it."

Suddenly the alarms went off and immediately Barry looked at Kara with a smirk. "It seems like we have our first crime to stop together. Think you can keep up Girl of Steel?" Kara laughed at him and shook her head but smiled. "Just you watch Scarlet Speedster." Then together shared one last look before they both super speeded into their super suits and headed off to stop the crime. While Caitlin and Cisco stayed behind listening through the coms.

As Kara flew through the city next to Barry, she couldn't help but feel a sense of hope flow through her. It was the first time she felt hopeful for the future in a while. And being able to be Supergirl with one of her best friends by her side helped bring that back.

"Team Superflash" She thought to herself. It was a nice name for the two of them. She couldn't wait to fight alongside her team for the first time. Which she knew would be the first of many.

After Kara's speech she made her way to the other side of the room and sat down at a table by herself. One of the servers who was going around with appetizers walked past her and she looked down at her empty glass of Champagne and stopped him for a moment. "Excuse me, can I get more champagne?" She asked politely and the server nodded and went to grab a bottle to pour her some more. As the server came back and filled her glass, she looked at it and sighed as she started to realize how sad and lonely her life had become. She knew that she wasn't alone, as she was surrounded by her team, her friends.

But to her it just wasn't the same. She felt as though her friends were slowly drifting apart from her. Or maybe it was her who was drifting apart from them.

Ever since Barry and Iris started planning the wedding and everybody helping them. She realized this was going to be her new reality. Barry and Iris were going to be married and leading the team together, while she will be in the back with a broken heart being the only one unhappy.

That's why it was her time to leave Central City and go back home to National City. So she can find out who she is. Without him.

"Hey you, haven't seen you all evening."

Kara looked away from her glass as she realized that she was once again, getting lost in her thoughts. She smiled up at Barry as she looked into his beautiful hazel eyes and spoke up. "Oh, well I've just been socializing quite a bit. You know how that goes." She explained, so he didn't think that she was trying to avoid him.

Barry nodded understanding what she meant. "Well do you mind if I steal you away for a moment and we can step outside?" He asked not to wait any longer to spend some time with her and give her her gift.

Kara was hesitant to say yes, as she knew that it was probably not the best for him to disappear from his rehearsal, but she knew it was probably going to be the last time for her to spend time with him. "You know what I would love that." She explained as she got up from where she was sitting. Barry smiled, glad that she agreed to spend this time with him.

Together the two of them made their way outside. It was dark out, considering the time but there was still enough light glistening off of nearby buildings for the two of them to see. It was a little cold which caused Kara to lightly shiver. She wasn't exactly dressed for outside, so she lightly rubbed her arms and shoulders to try and stay warm. Barry noticed this and took off the jacket he was wearing with his suit and gently placed it on top of her. Kara smiled at him and then looked up at the stars not sure what to say.

Barry looked at her and smiled, "You know this is the exact spot where we first became friends." He started to say, causing her attention back to him. "Uh, technically we became friends inside, when we drank coffee." She clarified as she turned to face him, confused as to why he was bringing this up anyway.

Barry nodded. "True, but you said yes right here, and since it's crowded inside I thought this would be the best place to give you this." He said, smiling at her as he pulled out a black velvet box from his pocket and handed it to her.

She looked at the box not sure if she wanted to open it. Then she looked at him raising an eyebrow, still confused about what this was all about. "Oh come on open it." He said knowing she was skeptical

She sighed and opened it to see the most beautiful necklace in the world. It was silver and it was her symbol with a lightning bolt in the middle. She smiled at it completely in love with the necklace. "It's beautiful.." She said as she looked up at Barry.

"Turn it over" Barry replied. She looked at him confused but then turned over the necklace and saw that it was engraved on the back.

"Don't be afraid to fall, I'll catch you"

Kara's eyes began to swell up with tears as she read it, this was the most thoughtful gift anyone has ever given her. She gently rubbed her thumb over the necklace and then looked up at Barry once more. "I love it so much" She whispered, before pulling him into an embrace. "Thank you so much" She continued as she held him closer and rested her head on his shoulder. Barry smiled at this and continued holding her, not wanting to let go. Finally after what seemed like hours, which was only a minute. The two of them let go even though they just wanted to feel one another's touch a little longer.

"You know I'm very grateful that I was able to save you from that puddle of coffee, all those years ago." Barry joked about when the two of them first met.

Kara laughed remembering that day like it was yesterday, the day when she first met her best friend and the love of her life. She nodded and looked down smiling. "Me too, who knew it would have led to an amazing friendship."

Barry just replied with yet another smile and the two of them stood there in a comforting silence. He couldn't help but noticed how beautiful Kara looked under the night sky. Her white skin complexion shined brightly under the moonlight. And the way her curls bounced and moved rhythmically with the light breeze that kept passing through them.

Kara noticed that Barry was staring at her and blushed lightly as she pushed some of her hair behind her ear that was falling in front of her face. She looked down at the velvet box in her hand and opened it once more. "Will you help me put it on me?" She asked as she took the long chain from the box and held it with her other hand that wasn't holding the box.

"Yeah of course." He walked over to Kara and took the necklace into his hand. She turned around so her back was facing him and then slowly moved her hair to one side so he could put it on her. He slowly brought the necklace over her and Kara could feel him breathe into her neck which made her tense for a moment, before she could feel his soft touch on her skin as he clasped the necklace together. Once he finished putting it on her, she turned to face him. "What do you think?" She asked as she looked down admiring the necklace. "Perfect." He answered and she nodded in agreement. "Thank you again Bar." She said again, this time looking up at him. As she did so, she didn't realize how little space the two had between them. She gulped slightly as she looked into his eyes. Barry too noticed the little space they had, but didn't even think of pulling away. Instead he stared into her deep diamond-like eyes, slowly getting lost in them. They could feel each other's slow breath against one another's skin, and Barry's eyes slowly made their way down to her lips. Kara hoped he would just move an inch closer so she could just know what it would feel like to have his lips against her. However it did the opposite has his head turned away from her and toward the door, as Cisco Ramon came out.

"Barry there you are, Iris has been asking around for you. She wants to give a toast to everyone." Cisco Explained as he held the door open with his back.

"I'll be right there Cisco." Barry replied as Cisco nodded his head and went back inside to rejoin the party."

Kara looked down feeling disappointed, she knew that moment was too good to be true, after all Barry was about to be a married man. Of course, he wasn't going to kiss her.

"We should probably head back inside."

"Yeah, after all it's your rehearsal." She explained, as she took off his coat and handed him. "You go ahead, I'll be right there." Barry gave her an "are you sure look" as he took back the jacket. She gave him a reassuring look and he walked to the door heading inside, leaving her all alone. She looked up at the night sky and sighed knowing that, that was the last time she would ever have a moment alone with Barry before he would be a married man. She also knew that it was also the perfect time to tell Barry the truth about how she felt..but she didn't.

"Let me have one last chance to tell him. Please." She whispered into the night sky, knowing that there were no more chances."
